    Greenfield Steel Projects in India - Special Case Study - Social Cost Benefit Analysis of POSCO

    India’s efforts to maintain it’s rapid economic growth rate will depend largely on it’s Greenfield projects. The rising demand for steel in domestic markets as well as in the International markets have made the steel prices soar up in recent years. The Indian steel industry is receiving huge domestic and foreign investments in Greenfield projects in the steel sector. However, other than the already planned steel plant projects, most of the proposed steel Greenfield Projects in the country continue to struggle to see any progress . Development of Greenfield steel projects in India has virtually come to a standstill. Many of these projects have stagnated due to issues like land acquisition, rehabilitation and political interference. Projects should either be rejected or, if approved, implemented with speed. We do need to boost Greenfield capacity addition in steel with holistic, coordinated policy design, and actualise long-pending investment proposals. This paper discusses the special case of POSCO and it’s Greenfield steelworks in Orissa. To catapult India into a steel superpower, POSCO would contribute 12 mtpa from its Greenfield project. There have been no progress in POSCO project since 2005 due to the land acquisition and environmental clearances problems. A special Social Cost Benefit Analysis study have been conducted to prove the economic benefits of the POSCO project for the people of Orissa and the employment and GDP growth it will bring along with it

    Organizational Intelligence in Faculty Members of Shahrekord Selected Universities, Iran

    Organizational intelligence is considered as one of the prerequisites of organizational success and helps the organizations to achieve their missions. The purpose of this article is to diagnose a university’s business intelligence. The indicators of organizational intelligence (strategic vision, shared fate, appetite for change, alignment, performance pressure, knowledge deployment and sprit) were measured in academic members in Shahrekord selected Universities, Iran. Data were collected from 168 faculty members and analyzed by correlation descriptive method. Albrecht’s standard questionnaire was used to collect data. Results showed that all of these seven indicators of intelligence assessment among faculty members were located at a higher level than the median and mean of them were ranged from 19.6 up to 24.8 (out of 35). Two indicators include strategic vision and spirit showed the highest and the application of knowledge showed the lowest values. Organizational Intelligence didn’t showed any correlation with age of faculty members, but the performance pressure was higher among full Professors, and components of strategic vision, appetite for change and organizational alignment were significantly higher among female faculty members than male ones

    Relationship between International Crude Oil Price and Indian Stock Market (NSE)

    In this new era of economic growth, the exceptional increase in the crude oil prices is one of the significant developments that affect the global economy. Crude oil is an important raw material used for manufacturing sectors, so that increase in the price of oil is bound to warn the economy with inflationary inclination. The study examine the long-term relationships between CNX NIFTY FIFTY index of National Stock Exchange and crude price by using various econometric test. The surge in crude oil prices during recent years has generated a lot of interest in the relationship between oil price and equity markets. The study covers the period between 01.01.2010 and 31.12.2014 and was performed with data consisting of 1245 days. The empirical results show there was a cointegrated long-term relationship between CNX index and crude price. Granger causality results reveal that there is unidirectional causality exists and crude oil price causes NSE (CNX) but NSE (CNX) does not cause oil price

    Design of Optimal Power System Stabilizer Using ETAP

    The main objective of this paper is to improve the critical clearing time of the Steel Plant 35 MW Turbo generator. In order to enhance the transient behavior of the system, Power System Stabilizer is added so that proper damping is done. Damping intra area and inter area oscillations are critical to optimal power flow and stability on a system. Power system stabilizer is an effective damping device, as they provide auxiliary control signals to the excitation system of the generator. Transient stability analysis was carried out for the Steel plant. The three phase to ground and line to ground fault was simulated. The critical clearing time was found to be more when Power System Stabilizer was added and when Power System Stabilizer was not added the critical clearing time has considerably reduced

    Human Capital And Large Scale PV Deployment

    Energy is one of the central parameters required for human survival after food. “Knowledge is power” and renewable energy plays increasingly important role to run knowledge-based society for sustainable social and economic development. Out of these, solar photovoltaic (PV) energy system is a useful tool to run the knowledge based systems. Apart from research and development, PV systems need suitable human capital for its successful penetration into every nook and corner of the society. The main aim of the present paper is to address the quality and quantity of human capital need in future to bring the solar PV power in the world electric power budget. Analyses on the chronology of PV power systems indicated that PV would be equivalent to other conventional power sources by the year 2023. Proper implementation of PV power systems needs three levels of human capital and these are i. Skilled technicians ii. Experienced technologists and iii. Efficient executives. While the technicians would be involved in the installation, operation, maintenance and monitoring of solar PV systems, technologists need to provide the basis for the liberalization of PV systems and the executives need to develop its market, policy, planning and execution. Academic and research institutions need to develop these types of human capital to match with future demand of the PV power systems. Market and human capital are interdependent and the market for clean energy depends on issues like energy security, climate change, fossil fuel depletion, new and novel technologies and environmentally conscious consumers. The future PV market depends upon how powerful these forces are individually and collectively. Thus the PV communities need to build up human capital as well as newer market to generate demand for human resource for better dissemination of PV power

    VOLT-SECOND BALANCE METHOD FOR MITIGATION OF INRUSH CURRENT IN SINGLE PHASE TRANSFORMERS

    During the transient period at the start of transformer energization, it experiences a flux linkage that is up to twice its nominal steady state value and saturates the core. This causes a large inrush current to flow which affects the power system stability and power quality especially when the source is weak. Sequential phase energization technique and addition of neutral resistor are the major methods for minimization of inrush current. This paper proposes a simple technique to limit the flux linkage during the time of transformer energization and prevents the flux saturation there by reducing the inrush current. This is based on a volt-second balance which injects a transient voltage to the primary of the transformer during inrush currents. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is verified by simulation

    POWER FACTOR IMPROVEMENT AND HARMONIC CURRENT REDUCTION IN DUAL FEEDBACK PWM CONTROLLED AC/DC DRIVES.

    The electrical power industry has grown rapidly and loads are changing from simple, non-electronic loads to electronic ones. These electronic loads draw a non-sinusoidal current even when the supply voltage is perfectly sinusoidal. In this paper PWM controller with dual feedback loop with simple single-stage single-switch input-current shaping circuit was designed, simulated and tested for AC/DC drives which generates input current harmonics due to its non-linear characteristics. A sinusoidal input current with nearly unity distortion factor was achieved through current harmonics reduction by using PWM boost regulator. The circuit utilizes the charging and discharging increments of boost inductor current to shape a sinusoidal input current. Inductor current was controlled by means of PWM controller. The controller accepts two feedback signals, the first is the inductor current and the other is the output voltage of the AC/DC drives. The simulation results of fast Fourier transform (FFT) show the great reduction in current harmonic which in turns tends to a great improvement in power factor and the sinusoidal shape of input current and hence overall performance of AC/DC drives
