    Get PDF
The concept of shaping domestic and commercial loads can be an effective way of controlling the load profile of a distribution company. Flat energy rates don’t provide incentives to customers to use power as would be optimal from a utility point of view. Price of energy should be fluctuating according to peak or off peak load condition. Smart meters can offer solution to this by allowing sophisticated measurement of consumption and using real time pricing (RTP) signals sent by utility. The consumer can minimize their expenses on energy by adjusting their intelligent appliances operation. Home Energy Controllers (HEC) control appliances at domestic and commercial consumer’s premises to save energy, reduce cost, increase reliability, efficiency and transparency. In this paper different automated meter reading (AMR) technologies and architecture of smart meter are discussed. Appliance scheduling approach is realized here with help of MATLAB simulation to keep the peak power demand for the homes below target value and reduce the cost of energ

ENERGY CONSERVATION THROUGH ENERGY EFFICIENT TECHNOLOGIES AT THERMAL POWER PLANT

    Get PDF
Energy audit and conservation is the burning issue nowadays due to the tremendous scarcity of electricity across the county. It is specifically quantifies as optimum use of electricity available. Normally it is extended to all the sectors viz, Industrial, commercial, residential as well as agriculture. Energy efficiency is a technique which needs to be adopted seriously and religiously for effective energy conservation. Energy saved by efficient use of energy of any electrically operated device not only leads to monetary saving but is extra energy generated for the use elsewhere. Indian power sector is caught between the pressure of adding new generating capacities to match the rapid growing demand of power to achieve economic and social development and the environmental challenges which is why our per capita power consumption is still 778 KWh only. Therefore by implementing Energy conservation in thermal power plant we try to recover the losses which go waste. By energy management, one can draw a line between the avoidable and un-avoidable losses and plan to minimize the same. So measurement Energy is a must within a plant. This paper describes basic understanding and awareness about energy conservation around the thermal power plant and also explains the energy saving measures at thermal power plant so as to minimize the auxiliary power consumption

MINIATURE IMPROVED CARRY SELECT ADDER WITH ADVANCE FEATURES AND POWER REQUIREMENTS

    Get PDF
In most of the data processing processors to perform arithmetic functions Carry Select Adder (CSLA) is used as this is one of the fastest adders. In order to increase the overall efficiency of the processor we can reduce the area and power consumption of the CSLA of processors. Based on this premise we can modify the regular SQRT CSLA architecture as 8-, 16-, 32-, and 64-b square-root CSLA (SQRT CSLA) architecture. The proposed design has reduced area and power as compared with the regular SQRT CSLA with only a slight increase in the delay. This work evaluates the performance of the proposed designs in terms of delay, area, power. The results analysis shows that the proposed CSLA structure is better than the regular SQRT CSLA

IMPACT OF STATIC VAR COMPENSATORS ON POWER SYSTEM: A CASE STUDY

    Get PDF
With increase in load, any transmission, distribution and generating model suffers from disturbances. These disturbances effect the overall stability of the system. Criterias like voltage profile, power flows, losses tell us about the state of the system under study. Load flow analysis of the system under study is capable of providing the insight of the system. The Emergence of FACTS device is really a step forward for the flexible control or Power System Operations. FACTS is the name given to the application of the power electronics devices to control power flows and other quantities in the power system. But when it comes to implementation stage, optimizing the location becomes a great concern because of the high cost involved with FACTS devices especially converter like SVC, STATCOM etc. Static Var Compensator (SVC) is a power quality device, which employs power electronics to control the reactive power flow of the system where it is connected. It is able to provide fast-acting reactive power compensation on electrical systems. SVC is one of the methods and can be applied to obtain a system with least losses, increased power flow and healthy voltage profile. Number, location and size of SVC are the main concerns and they can be optimized to a great extent by Genetic Algorithm (GA) or any other method. Use of SVC in a system has shown considerable increase in voltage profile and power flows while decrease in losses

Distributed generation (DG) units reduce electric power losses and hence improve reliability and voltage profile. Determination of appropriate size and location of DG is important to maximize overall system efficiency. In this paper, loss index factor method has been presented to determine the appropriate size and proper allocation of DG in a distribution network. Results obtained from this method have been compared with using the repeated load flow method

TOTAL HARMONIC DISTORTION REDUCTION BY USING SSSC WITH AND WITHOUT BVSI

This electronic document is a “live” template. The various In present a new Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC) for the control of active power flow on a transmission line is proposed and its effectiveness is investigated. The new SSSC is based on injecting a voltage in a given line to counter or augment the voltage &Power produced by the inductive reactance of the line. The resulting compensator, therefore, emulates the control of transmission line reactance and thus, it assists in control by the power transmission capacity. The voltage to be injected in a line is produced by a Binary Voltage Source Inverter (BVSI). BVSI is an attractive recently proposed Voltage Source Inverter. Its output contains very little harmonics and it utilizes very few dc sources unlike conventional multi-level VSIs. The % phase output of the BVSI is synchronized to the line frequency and its phase is arranged to be in or out of phase with the Line reactance drop. The proposed BVSI-SSSC is realized by using three binary proportioned dc sources, which may be appropriately dimensioned capacitors. The resulting output of a BVSI-SSSC is a 15-step ac voltage waveform. The BVSI- SSSC has a sophisticated set of coordinated controlled which ensure: BVSI frequency is in synchronism with the system frequency, firing pulses are regulated for inverter valves to ensure minimum harmonic content, the selection of Modulation Index and arrangement regulates an appropriate phase relationship to create the desired change in the power flow, and adjustment of firing angles to ensure that the capacitors creating dc binary proportioned sources maintain desired charge on them. Armillary controls may be added to create positive system damping through active power control, and voltage dependent controllers may be added to limit over and under voltage (charging) of capacitors during fault conditions

COMPLETED LBP BASED TEXTURE ANALYSIS IN MAMMOGRAM

    Get PDF
Breast cancer is a frequent cancer diseases and it is the leading cause of cancer death among women in most of the occidental countries. Mammography is one among the key tool to identify the location and size of tumor in the breast. Texture analysis plays an important role in detecting the disease patterns in mammogram and to identify the masses as normal or abnormal. The local binary pattern descriptor provides an illumination invariant and rotation invariant approach for the texture analysis. However the LBP consider only the sign parameters. So it may lose some textural information. This can be overcome by considering the sign, magnitude and centre gray level values. Here a new approach for the Texture analysis in mammogram using completed LBP is presented. Although different methods have been proposed most of them suffer from large number of false positives. In contrast this method uses textural properties to reduce the number of false positives
