Fiscal Federalism in Support of Public Social Capital through Government Entity Investiagtion
Past research considers both fiscal federalism and entity governance principle determinants of local government social capital. However, no study is conclusive enough on this point. Guided by social capital theory, this study surveyed 28 districts, 5 municipalities, and 311 sub-counties of Uganda’s north-eastern and eastern regions to investigate fiscal federalism-entity governance-social capital linkages. Structural equation modeling results reveal resource utilization, bureaucracy, and corruption; prominent fiscal federalism attributes, social capital predictors. Its other equally-vital component; job creation, depicts no predictive powers. Moreover, entity governance mediates the fiscal federalism-social capital relationship. Implications of these findings to both theory and practice are discussed
The Effect of Human Resource Management Practices on Deposit Money Bank Employee Productivity
The research studied the impact of human resource management techniques on the productivity of Nigerian deposit money institutions. The information for this research came from structured questions that were delivered to chosen deposit money institutions in Yola Metropolis. There were 193 questionnaires distributed in all, however only 166 were successfully recovered and examined. In order to estimate the effects of human resource management practice on employee productivity in the selected organization, the study used descriptive statistics and the multiple regression technique. The correlation coefficient was also used to test the extent to which human resource management is related to employee productivity. Human resource planning (HRP), recruitment and selection (RS), staff training and development (TRD), and performance appraisal (PA) were found to have a positive impact on employee productivity in the selected deposit money banks in Nigeria and were properly signed, implying that they were in line with the study's theoretical expectations. At the 5% level, the F-statistics 5.242014, which examined the combined significance of the parameter estimations, was deemed statistically significant, as evidenced by the associated probability value of 0.025272. This means that in the chosen deposit money institutions in Nigeria, all of the model's variables were jointly and statistically significant in determining employee productivity. Finally, this study found that human resource management practices in Nigerian deposit money institutions had a favorable and substantial impact on employee productivit

Issues in Designing English for Islamic Studies Courses
Undergraduate students majoring in Islamic Studies in Saudi Arabia need to take an English-for-Specific-Purposes (ESP) course each year of the B.A. program. The material for all four courses was developed in-house by a group of instructors at those colleges. An examination of the course material in general and reading texts, in particular, revealed many weaknesses. It was found that each course material consists of 6 units, each of which consisting of a reading text, few vocabulary items and their dictionary definition and comprehension questions. Vocabulary exercises required the students to fill in the blanks with the words that were defined or to look up the meanings in the dictionary. English passages were simply a literal translation of Arabic sentences rather than connected discourse. The texts lacked cohesion, coherence, and an organizational structure. No devices signaling the text structure and no transitional words between sentences and paragraphs were used. Ideas are abstract, vague and have insufficient details. Stories had no theme, no setting, and no sequence of events. The passages lacked the stylistic features of English texts. Although the students are required to translate the same reading passages, translation skills and techniques were not mentioned. English for Islamic Studies courses need to be re-designed by a team of subject-matter, curriculum design and native English language experts. Discourse structure, stylistic features, register and specific reading and vocabulary skills should be taken into consideration in the course design. A model for designing English for Islamic Studies courses is provided
