Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) affects one out of 100 children worldwide (World Health Organization, 2023). In Canada, public debates about policies related to autism funding have been ongoing. This research paper provides an analysis of the autism funding policies in British Columbia from inception to present day. Using an economic, social, and educational lens, this paper will examine the progress that has been made to support children living with ASD over two decades and the issues that exist within current autism funding policies that require addressing to improve access and quality of care, support services, and education for those with ASD.Les troubles du spectre de l’autisme (TSA) affectent 1 enfant sur 100 dans le monde (Organisation mondiale de la santé, 2023). \u27Be You Never So Gaye\u27: A Queer Everyman

    No full text
The late medieval play Everyman might seem to exclude queerness, but its religious challenge to secular temporality is the very place to find the queer body of the past. Using Giorgio Agamben’s concept of ‘messianic time’ and queer theoretical interventions by Michel Foucault, J. Halberstam, and José Esteban Muñoz, this paper argues that Everyman creates a time for friendship as a way of life. That time is a ‘gaye’ time; though the theology of the play may foreclose that time of fellowship and pleasure, the performance of the play produces a time outside the grip of theological order

To engage students with academic research is recognised as a high-impact activity that supports the development of valuable critical thinking skills. Various approaches have been developed to promote student research both in and outside the curriculum. By incorporating the perspectives of both students and academics, this qualitative study evaluates the extent to which a research partnership is formed through an institutional research scheme called the Junior Research Associate. Our findings indicate that it is critical to move beyond the entrenched academic hierarchies of supervisor/supervisee to develop a negotiated research relationship. Challenges identified include the short timeframe to establish the conditions for successful partnership and differential expectations of partners at the outset of the scheme. It is also important to safeguard against such initiatives being instrumentalised by academics seeking to further their personal research agenda. The findings help to inform strategies to scale up such initiatives
