Sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy evaluation of a colorimetric detection kit for Mycoplasma gallisepticum in chickens using green-synthesized gold nanoparticles and IgY conjugates
Journal articleMycoplasma gallisepticum is a significant pathogen affecting poultry production, causing chronic respiratory disease and substantial economic losses. This study evaluated a colorimetric detection kit for M. gallisepticum using green-synthesized gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) from cashew leaves conjugated with immunoglobulin Y (IgY) antibodies. The kit was field-tested on 20 chickens and compared with microbial culture results. The detection kit demonstrated 100% specificity and positive predictive value, indicating its ability to accurately identify true positive cases. However, it showed limited sensitivity (52.38%) and accuracy (54.55%), with a low negative predictive value (9.09%). The kit provided rapid results within 30 minutes compared to 24 hours for microbial testing and was cost-effective at 15.00 PHP per test. While the kit successfully detected subclinical infections, its performance could be improved through further optimization of antibody-antigen binding and larger-scale field testing. Integrating the rapid colorimetric test with confirmatory microbial testing is recommended for enhanced reliability in field settings. Future research should focus on adapting this technology for other poultry pathogens and assessing its economic impact on poultry farming operations
Analysis of environmental literacy and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) competence among community leaders: Bases for technology-assisted module for green management advocates
Abstract onlyThis study assessed the environmental literacy and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) competence of community leaders in Aklan to develop a Technology-Assisted Green Management Module aimed at enhancing sustainability leadership. Using the ADDIE Model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation), the study systematically examined leaders’ knowledge and skills. Surveys, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), and In-Depth Interviews (IDIs) identified gaps in environmental literacy and SDG competence, highlighting disparities based on age, sex, and geography. Thematic analysis revealed that while leaders had some awareness, their practical application of sustainability practices was limited, particularly among younger and marginalized groups. The module was designed using the KAP Framework (Knowledge, Attitudes, Practices) to address these gaps. Experts in environmental education and technology-based learning ensured its quality, cultural relevance, and adaptability. Implementation involved pre and post-tests, facebook-based learning, and capacity-building seminars. Statistical analysis showed significant improvements in environmental knowledge, attitudes, and sustainability practices. Evaluation through surveys, observations, and interviews confirmed the module’s effectiveness but highlighted areas for enhancement, such as emotional engagement and digital interactivity. A strong positive correlation between environmental literacy and SDG competence was found, emphasizing the importance of sustainability education. The study recommends multi-stakeholder collaboration among government agencies, NGOs, educational institutions, and community leaders to integrate SDGs into local policies and strengthen sustainability leadership. Digital learning tools like the Green Management Module play a vital role in fostering long-term environmental resilience and policy integration.Includes bibliographical referencesDoctor of Management (Development Management
Spending patterns and financial risks among 'Buy Now, Pay Later' (BNPL) consumers
Abstract onlyThis study aimed to determine the spending patterns and financial risks among BNPL Consumers in Iloilo City using a survey-correlational research design. The participants were 214 BNPL consumers selected through convenience sampling. Descriptive statistics included frequency count, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while inferential statistics utilized the Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis H test, and Spearman’s Rho at a 0.05 significance level. Findings revealed that BNPL consumers exhibited frequent purchasing behavior, a high tendency to make unplanned purchases, and often prioritized purchasing essential items, while the purchase of non-essential items occurred occasionally. This indicates that while BNPL is widely used for both planned and impulsive needs, consumers may limit non-essential purchases due to budget constraints or fear of excessive debt. Furthermore, perceived financial risk in terms of debt accumulation was rate high, while concerns about late fees and penalties were moderate, and financial instability was also perceived as moderate. This implies that although consumers recognize the dangers of debt, their experiences with payment penalties and financial pressure vary. Spending patterns differed significantly in terms of frequency of purchase when classified by sex, with males reporting higher frequent spending. Significant differences also emerged in terms of unplanned purchases and purchase of non-essential items with single consumers showing high tendency and frequent buying behavior, respectively. Perceived financial risks significantly differed in terms of debt accumulation and financial instability when classified by civil status and educational attainment, with higher perceived risks reported by single individuals and high school graduates, respectively. Lastly, a significant relationship was found between consumer spending patterns and perceived financial risks.Includes bibliographical referencesMaster in Business Administratio
