Journal articleThis descriptive-correlational study determined the whole person development (WPD) status of students in terms of social, spiritual, psychological, intellectual, professional, and physical domains. Nine hundred twenty-six (926) senior high school students were randomly selected to provide information using a standardized questionnaire, Whole Person Development Inventory (WPDI). Findings revealed that generally, students have high status in WPD, and among the six WPD domains, the spiritual ranked the highest while psychological the lowest. Sub-domains that were rated the greatest are spiritual quest, peer relationship, and family relation while the least are emotional health, community care, and civic responsibility which suggest that students need more help in these areas. Academic achievement, gender, number of activities, nature of activities, and availment of peer counselling were found to be significantly related to overall status of WPD; religious affiliation to intellectual and physical domains; living arrangement to spiritual and intellectual; gender to physical; type of university to social and physical; number of activities to all the domains except psychological; nature of activities to spiritual and psychological; and availment of peer counselling to social, professional and physical. A combination of gender, academic achievement, number of activities, nature of activities, and availment of peer counselling service were found to be significant predictors of the WPD status and among these variables, the nature of activities participated in by the students was the strongest predictor of the status of WPD

Abstract onlyThis study was conducted to identify the tree species and the coverage of tree species in Sitio Onas, Santa Cruz, San Miguel, Iloilo. It included the inventories, identification, and assessment of tree species present in the area. Trees in Sitio Onas have coverage of 1,242, 124.97 m2 and a perimeter of 4,812.42 m. Sixty-one (61) tree species were identified in the area and a total of 3,068 trees were inventoried. This included thirty-four (34) forest tree species with the total number of 1,951 trees and twenty-seven (27) fruit tree species with a total number of 1,117 trees. Mahogany and mango species were the most dominant species in the area. The species were classified according to their taxonomic classification, and category and tree specification including the phenotypic characteristic. Trees in the area were affected (to be cut) by the construction of the National Irrigation Administration-Jalaur River Multi-Purpose Dam II which included 136 trees with a net volume of 16.5 m3. Moreover, the losses of tree species were caused by illegal cutting of trees for charcoal and furniture. Implementations of environmental laws are not strictly monitored by the local authorities and Local Government Unit (LGU). The results of this study addresses issues on the adoption, conservation, and management of tree species in the barangay.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Environmental Managemen

Abstract onlyOyster mushroom (pleurotus ostreatus) production has long been an industry in the Philippines and has been grown commercially around the world for food. Because of its high moisture content, their thin porous epidermal structure results in high respiration rate, and their unique physiology induces deterioration right after harvest. Oyster mushrooms have short post-harvest life-span which therefore discourages large scale productions. This study was conducted to find out the comparative effects of different packaging inserts namely, banana leaf and paper on the shelf life of fresh oyster mushroom. The inserts effects on microbial count, discoloration, and water accumulation were investigated. Three packaging formats were used in the study, polypropylene bag without insert, polypropylene bag with banana leaf insert, and polypropylene bag with paper insert. Results showed that after being packaged for eight hours, without insert the Estimated Aerobic Plate Count (EAPC)/ml (g) is 48,000, for paper insert the Estimated Aerobic Plate Count (EAPC)/ml (g) is 33,000, and for banana insert the Estimated Aerobic Plate Count (EAPC)/ml is 9,700. Results of the study showed that inserts have effects on the shelf life of oyster mushroom and among the three packages observed, the package with banana insert lasted the longest with more than two days, while the package without an insert and with paper insert lasted only for one day.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Packaging Engineerin

Abstract onlyTo address the issue on high poverty incidence especially in the Province of Negros Occidental, the Sugar Block Farm project of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) and Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) was conceptualized to improve the productivity of sugarcane farms managed by the agrarian reform beneficiary’s organizations (ARBO). Casal-agan Agrarian Reform Cooperative (CARC) is one of the prominent ARBOs in Southern Negros Occidental identified to be needing the assistance of the program. In a hectare planted of sugarcane the harvest is sixty (60) tons and an average expenses of seventy-three thousand and seventy pesos (PHP 73,070.00). One of the major reasons for the low efficiency observed on small farms was the higher input price faced by the small farmers thus giving a lower productivity. Evidently, modernization of farm practices, somehow, could improve production efficiency, however, this is difficult to achieve at present due to lack of access to technology and information, technical skills and limited financial capability of the small farmers. Generally, the lack of credit access and other resources by the small farmers made it difficult for them to earn a steady livelihood. The project covered a period of 12 months. It provided interventions on capacity building, technical services and support facilities components for the ARB Organizations to sustain their operations and services to their members, and to enable them to engage in more sustainable, competitive and profitable business operations with the ultimate objective of increasing the ARB household income. Brief Description of the Project The project involves a consolidation of a minimum of 30 hectares within a 2 km radius sugarcane farm managed by an ARBO with legal personality and with majority members of Agrarian Reform beneficiaries (ARBs). Objectives of the Project The project was implemented to: 1. Increase income of the farmers through increased productivity and/or reduced production cost and/or additional source of livelihood. 2. Improve capacity of ARBOs to serve ARBs and other small farm holders, with organizational maturity above level 3.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Agricultur
