The efficacy of essential oil extract from pomelo (Citrus maxima) peel as mosquito repellent in New Zealand albino rabbit
Abstract onlyPomelo (Citrus maxima) has a major active constituent, Limonene; it occurs naturally in citrus fruits. In this study, the researchers extracted essential oil from Pomelo (Citrus maxima) peel and used the water distillation method. The researchers formulated it into two concentrations, pure 100% essential oil and 75% essential oil diluted in 25% olive oil. Olive oil is highly compatible with the acidity of the skin; it is rich in squalene, phytostero, and tocopherol. Mosquito larvae for the repellency testing were collected from stagnant waters and they were put into different containers provided with a mosquito net or screen bonded on top, where it was left to develop into adult mosquitoes. New Zealand Albino rabbits were used as test subjects for this research, where the rabbit’s skin was shaved and divided into four (4) quadrants and were placed in separate cages together with the trapped adult mosquitoes. Quadrant A (100% Pomelo (Citrus maxima) essential oil), Quadrant B (Positive control Pure Citronella essential oil), Quadrant C (75% Pomelo (Citrus maxima) essential oil), and Quadrant D (Negative control Mineral oil) were applied on the rabbit’s shaved skin. The rabbits were then exposed to mosquitoes by removing the mosquito net bonded using a thread for fourteen (14) hours and was checked every two (2) hours for mosquito bites. The gathered data and results only one (1) to zero (0) mosquito landings and bites on the tested area.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Pharmac
The efficacy of mosquito repellent spray from pomelo peel extract on New Zealand albino rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus)
Abstract onlyPomelo (Citrus maxima) shows a great mosquito repellent activity due to its major active constituent, Limonene. In this study, the researchers formulate mosquito repellent spray from pomelo (Citrus maxima) peel extract in two concentrations (100% and 75%). Water distillation was used in extracting Pomelo (Citrus maxima) peel oil. 100% pomelo (Citrus maxima) peel extract mosquito repellent spray contains pure essential oil. Coconut oil was used to dilute 75% pomelo (Citrus maxima) peel extract mosquito repellent spray formulation. Mosquito larvae for the repellency testing were collected from stagnant waters and were put in different containers provided with a small screen bond on top, where it was left to develop into pupae and become adult mosquitoes. The test subjects used in the repellency testing were rabbits, where the rabbit’s skin was shaved and divided into four (4) quadrants. The formulated concentration, together with the positive control (no touch mosquito repellent spray) and negative control (mineral oil) were applied on different quadrants on the rabbit’s shaved skin. The rabbits were then exposed to mosquitoes for fourteen (14) hours and were checked every 2 hours for mosquito bites. The gathered data and results showed that there were only one to none mosquito landings and mosquito bites on the tested area. The data analyzed and compared using ANOVA showed a significant difference existed in the repellency activities of 100% formulation and 75% formulation of pomelo peel spray to Positive control (No touch mosquito repellent spray) and Negative control (Mineral oil).Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Pharmac

Further, the study determined the relationships of profile to capacity building and skills trainings received, forms of aids and grants received, and recovery status; as well as the relationships of capacity building trainings received and forms of aids/grants received to recovery status. This is a descriptive-correlational study which employed a one-shot survey design in collecting data from 341 respondents using a researcher-made instrument. SPSS was used to process and analyze the collected data using frequency and percentage of distribution for the descriptive analysis and Chi-square test for the inferential analysis. Results revealed that the respondents were from Barangay Poblacion, aged 40 to 50 years old, with a mean age of 51.38 years, female, married, and secondary graduates. Before and after Typhoon Haiyan, they were generally farmers, with no other source of income, with savings, squat in their home lot, and had insurance. Their mean monthly income has increased from PHP 4,368.21 to PHP 5,048.27. They received an average of 1.2 capacity building trainings most of which is on economic security/livelihood. They indicated low level of learning from the capacity building trainings received. They have also received more than two forms of aids with an average of 2.7, largely in- kind/goods and cash for shelter inputs. However, they perceived low level of adequacy of aids they have received. They have perceived high (90.01% to 100.0%) recovery status. The number of capacity trainings received was significantly related to respondents’ personal and socio-economic profile except to respondents’ sex and insurance. The number of aids received was not significantly related to respondents’ personal and socioeconomic profile except to respondents’ barangay residence, and sex. Level of learning from trainings received was significantly related to respondents’ personal and socioeconomic profile except to respondents' civil status, major occupation, and home lot ownership. There was significant relationship between level of adequacy of aids received and respondents’ barangay residence, sex, other source of income, monthly income, and home lot ownership but there was no significant relationship to respondents’ age, civil status, educational attainment, major occupation, monthly savings, and insurance. Recovery status was significantly related to respondents’ barangay residence, insurance, and number of capacity building trainings received. It was not significantly related to respondents’ other personal and socio-economic profile.Includes bibliographical referencesMaster of Science in Social Wor
Factors influencing the decision not to retire among the retiring personnel of Iloilo Provincial Government
Abstract onlyThis study was conducted primarily to determine the factors influencing the decision not to retire among the retiring personnel of Iloilo Provincial Government and to find out the relationship between the factors occupational, economic and psychological and their decision not to retire. The study utilized the one-shot, researcher-made questionnaire. The total enumeration method was utilized by purposely determining the 75 retiring personnel with age ranging above 60 but below 65 years old as respondents. The level of statistical significance was set at 0.05. Results showed that when the retiring personnel was categorized in terms of gender, civil status, office, length of service and monthly salary majority of the retiring personnel were females, were mostly married, have been serving the office for 36 to 40 years, had a monthly salary ranging 20,000 and below and mostly from the General Services Office (GSO). The occupational factor was found to have a strong extent of influence in the decision of the retiring personnel not to retire before the age of 65, while economic and psychological factors were found to have a moderate extent of influence. The result showed that a little less than half (41.3%) of the retiring personnel were firm in their decision not to retire before the age of 65 even though their concerns were already satisfied. Most of the reasons indicated were related to the psychological factor. A significant result with a low correlation was noted between the psychological factor and decision not to retire among the retiring personnel. This finding was supported by the results of Cramer’s V. The result was interpreted using the Garrett’s Interpretation of Coefficient of Correlation. The other factors that were not tested in this study such as: health status, physical condition, higher retirement benefits, salary increase and not enough number of years in service were also identified by the retiring personnel to influence their decision not to retire before the age of 65. Thus, it was recommended that thorough study should be done about the implementation of the law lowering the optional retirement. Retiring personnel are encourage to attend programs, trainings and seminars to ready them in the soon transition. The organization should revisit existing programs conducted focusing on psychological factors and well-being of the retirees. Also, it would be best to develop post-retirement plans and create programs that will appreciate the retiring personnel in later years for being part of the organization for a long time. Lastly, further study should be conducted based on the other variables which were not tested in this study to widen the factors that might influence the retirement decision of employees.Includes bibliographical referencesMaster in Public Administratio
