Developing a competency index for librarians: Benchmark for capacity building, Library and Information Science education, and continuing professional development
No full textConference paperCompetence is always an evolving issue as it needs to adapt to the transformation in society. Library and information professionals are faced with the same societal changes in dealing with information, technology, and services. Knowledge and skills must also be aligned to the needs of the institution served. The development of a competency index has been a major task of library organizations. The American Library Association, Association of College and Research Libraries and Online Computer Library Center have created a competency index that will guide educators and employers on what to expect from information professionals. However, this may not be a one-size-fits-all considering the uniqueness of libraries based on geography, culture, language and other factors. Hence, this case study of two associations: the Vanuatu Library Association and Southeast Asia Theological Librarians was developed. The research describes how the competencies of two associations were created and explains the steps in developing a competency index that can be applied in a country or a region
The CPU green initiative: Design of solar PV systems for streetlight and grandstand lighting
Get PDFAbstract onlyThis study provides a design of a solar PV system with grid power backup to supply the streetlights around the CPU Football Field and grandstand lightings. To start a green initiative for CPU and to reduce the energy cost for operating the CPU streetlights and grandstand lightings, the CPU Green Initiative Design of Solar PV Systems for streetlight and grandstand lighting was developed. The design utilizes the grandstand roof surface for the location of the solar panels and makes use of the existing streetlights wiring connections. The design employs 27 PV panels, 200 ampere hours, 12-volt battery bank, 12.64-ampere solar charge controller rating, and a 12-volt inverter rating. The results of the voltage drops of the system in the design is also below 5%. It is expected to have a return of investments in 10 years. The solar energy harvested by the panels is stored in storage banks which are placed in a room beside the grandstand. A hybrid charge controller with priority is used to automatically change the supply be it from the grid, the battery, or directly from the solar panels. The design is able to provide energy for the streetlights around the CPU football field and CPU grandstand lightings for a maximum of one day in case of loss of supply from the grid.Includes bibliographic referencesBachelor of Science in Electrical Engineerin
Proposed design of a fish post-harvest facility in Mangorocoro, Ajuy, Iloilo
No full textAbstract onlyThe Municipality of Ajuy, being a coastal municipality, has fishing as the main source of income in order to sustain the majority of the population. Fishermen trade their catches to fish brokers at the Community Fish Landing Center, yet this facility is only limited to this purpose. No cold storages or stock rooms are provided for the fish catches. Thus, if not bought, these catches are immediately returned to the fishermen, which they would peddle to other barangays or consume themselves resulting in a much reduced profit. This study was conducted to provide an infrastructure, so as to improve the quality of fish products by having spaces for storing, processing, packaging, and advertising of the products. The post-harvest processes included are drying, smoking, and fish tocino and tapa. Technical plans, such as architectural structural, electrical, and plumbing designs were included as well as geo-technical report, topographic survey, seismic analysis, scheduling, and cost estimates. Green building technology was also adopted by using solar panels and natural lighting. The Fish Post Harvest Facility has a total floor area of 348 square meters. The construction project will have a full duration of 210 calendar days with a total cost of ₱ 17,500,000 and is funded by the Department of Agriculture.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Civil Engineerin
Design, fabrication, and performance evaluation of a cassava digger attached to a tractor prime mover
Get PDFAbstract onlyThe study was conducted to design and evaluate the field test performance of the designed cassava digger attached to a tractor prime mover in harvesting cassava tuberous roots. The fabrication was done at a machine shop located in Jaro, Iloilo City from April 2019 to May 2019. Performance evaluation was done at Sitio Salong, Calaya Nueva Valencia, Guimaras in October 17, 2019. The implement has the components of: (a) frame, (b) standard, (c) soil breaker, (d) soil guide, (e) digger base plate, (f) digging blade and (g) implement stand. The machine has an overall dimension of 115 cm length, 84 cm width and 90 cm height. The minimum power requirement to pull the implement is 70 Hp depending on the soil resistance. Results of the actual field test performance showed that the field efficiency and the digging efficiency of the machine were 69% and 96%, respectively. It can dig up to 30 cm depth. It has an investment cost of PHP50,000.00. The fixed cost and variable cost per day at 8 hours operation were PHP408.33 and PHP7,600.00, respectively, giving a total cost of PHP8,008.33. Finally, the operating cost per hectare of cassava tubers was PHP4,766.86, which was computed by dividing the total cost by its actual field capacity of 1.68 hectares per day at 8 hours operation. On the other hand, using the manual method showed that the total harvesting cost is PHP9,000.00 per hectare. Comparing the operating cost of the manual method to that of mechanized method of harvesting, not less than PHP4,000.00 per hectare will be saved by a farmer if he will adopt a mechanized operation.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineerin
Hatching and survival of African catfish eggs and larvae (Clarias gariepinus Lin.) exposed to different disinfectants during incubation
Get PDFAbstract onlyThis study presents results on the hatching and survival rates (%) of African catfish eggs and larvae (Clarias gariepinus) exposed to different disinfectants (T1 - Methylene blue, T2 - Water conditioner, T3-Salt) during incubation. The control (T4) which is water was utilized. Each treatment consisted of four replicates arranged in a randomized complete block design (RCBD). Water quality parameters such as, temperature, pH, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, dissolved oxygen, and nitrate were monitored during the tenure of the study. Results showed that highest hatching rate of eggs was observed from water conditioner treatment however, this was not significantly different from the other treatments (P>0.05). Lowest hatching rate was observed from eggs exposed to salt. Survival rate of larvae was also highest in water conditioner however, this was also not significantly different from other treatments (P<0.05). Correlation analysis showed that survival rates of catfish larvae were negatively correlated with all water quality parameters.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Agricultur

New opportunities for growth and prosperity are likely to emerge, but the colossal challenge is to ensure quality. This chapter discusses the mechanisms, procedures, and processes towards desired quality of LIS education to be globally competitive and regionally recognized. It further explains the qualifications framework and quality assurance compliance and its impact on developing competencies and recognition in the ASEAN labor market. The discussion puts emphasis on the status of LIS education in the Philippines as an empirical case, and further discusses the future directions towards achieving a system-wide evaluation of quality, articulation of a system of pathways and equivalencies, quality assurance and harmonization of LIS curriculum
Students’ level of satisfaction with institutional services of Central Philippine University for School Year 2019 - 2020
Get PDFJournal articleThis study was conducted to determine the level of satisfaction of the different institutional services among students of Central Philippine University for school year 2019 - 2020. The one-shot survey was used in the collection of data using a researcher-made questionnaire gathered from 261 respondents. Data were processed using SPSS PC v 11 and ethical considerations for the study were followed. The descriptive data were analyzed using frequency count and percentages. The pertinent findings of the study were: majority of the respondents are females, Roman Catholics, regular students, freshmen and with a professional parent/guardian; the respondents are satisfied of the delivery of academic services to them, the adequacy of the academic support services given them; the university’s ability to enroll students in an effective manner, the university’s ability to offer reasonable fees to students and the policies involved in such transactions, the quality of the university’s support programs and services, the effectiveness and availability of financial aid and scholarship programs offered to students, the university’s response to students’ safety and security on campus, the university’s programs to enhance students’ spiritual life; the extent to which the university provides experiences that promote a sense of campus pride and feeling of belonging as well as the effectiveness of the university’s channels of communication for students, university’s effort to convey to students that they are important to the university, university’s services to cater without discrimination to different groups of students, the attitude of front-line staff toward students. Based on the findings of the study, the following conclusions are drawn: the respondents are generally very satisfied with the following institutional services: student spiritual life; student centeredness; campus safety and security; campus climate; academic services; and, service excellence while they are generally satisfied with the following: responsiveness to diverse populations; admissions and registration; community engagement services; campus support services; research and development services; academic support services; scholarship/grant-in-aid; and, fees and billing practices and will recommend CPU to other students.University Research Cente
