Design, construction, and performance testing of a wall-mounted wheelchair lift for a two-storey house

    Get PDF
Abstract onlyFor people with disability and difficulty, they need wheelchairs in their day-to-day tasks. A wheelchair in fact plays a vital role and function among people who cannot take the flight of stairs. They are faced with challenges to get from one storey in a building to another. People who are not physically able require assistance from those who can carry the wheelchair up the stairs. Not only these people on a wheelchair are having difficulties moving up from one floor to another, but also pregnant women, persons with other types of disabilities, and senior citizens. That is why stairlifts, elevators and ramps are installed in a building nowadays. Nonetheless, stairlifts and elevators can be installed at residential homes no matter how expensive if a family wants a safe, durable, and of good quality transportation device. These existing technologies present a relevant and significant concept which led to the research title “Design, Construction, and Performance Testing of a Wall-Mounted Wheelchair Lift for a Two-Storey House” for a single person whose function serves as a wheelchair that will transport a less able and physically challenged person from floor to floor. Since most of the houses in Philippines are mostly two-storey, thus, the design is functionally matched and appropriate. The construction of the wall-mounted wheelchair lift was innovated for additional safety feature, easy installation, and plain affordability. To ensure better results, this study aimed at conducting a performance test of the wall-mounted wheelchair lift.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineerin

Abstract onlyThis descriptive relational research aimed to determine the perceived barrier, and compliance with continuing professional development (CPD) among staff nurses when they are taken as a whole and categorized according to age, sex, civil status, highest educational attainment, length of service, monthly salary, and type of hospital employed. An adapted data-gathering instrument was used for this research. The data-gathering instrument was submitted to a panel of jurors for face and content validation. After integrating the comments and suggestions of the jurors, the instrument was pilot-tested among the selected staff nurses of other hospital who were not the participants of this study. Frequency counts and percentages were used in the descriptive data analysis, while the Cramer’s V and Gamma values were used to determine the relationship between the variables. All statistical data processing and computations were done using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software. Results of the study revealed that majority of the staff nurses appeared in this current investigation were males, single, age 26-30 years old, graduates of bachelor degree, earned income below P20,000, working in a public hospital and with 5 years and below length of service. Results revealed that 2 for every three staff nurses did not earn any CPD points and had attended 5 seminar and below. The staff nurses generally perceived that situational barriers such as health status of respondents family responsibilities as well as access to training area moderately hinder them from pursuing higher education to earn CPD points. Moreover the institutional barriers, such as lack of entry requirements, unavailability of courses they want, strict attendance requirements and anxiety for not being able to keep up academically, moderately hinder them from complying with CPD requirements, however having low aspirations, lack of self-confidence and being skeptical about the value of continuing education as elements of dispositional barriers was found to serve as the strongest hindrances to compliance among the staff nurses. A large majority of the respondents showed to have moderate compliance in the three categories of CPD, namely: professional track, academic track, and self-directed track. This means that about 9 for every 10 staff nurses have exhibited moderate compliance with the requirements of continuing professional development.Master of Arts in Nursin

    No full text
Abstract onlyIn the Philippines, public markets are considered as a center for commerce and business. The existing public market of Belison, Antique faces problems such as corroded roof, deteriorated ceiling, insufficient transient stalls, and unorganized stalls. The tricycle terminal beside it has insufficient roof and lot area with unconcreted floors. To address these problems, a two-storey public market building with tricycle terminal is proposed. The proposed project has a total lot area of 3,130 square meters where 2,500 square meters is for the public market and 630 square meters for the tricycle terminal. The public market building has 146 permanent stalls and 125 transient stalls on the ground floor and 14 offices and shops on the second floor. The proposed tricycle terminal can accommodate 24 tricycles at a time. Green building technology is integrated in the design such as LED lighting and louver walls for lesser energy consumption. The study includes architectural, structural, electrical and plumbing plans in accordance with the existing codes and regulations. The National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP 2010), Ultimate Strength Design (USD) for reinforced concrete members and Allowable Strength Design (ASD) for steel truss were used as basis for the structural design. The project has duration of 196 days with an estimated cost of Php 61,365,256.61 and will be funded by the Local Government Unit of Belison.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Civil Engineerin

    Get PDF
Abstract onlyQuality of Nursing Work Life (QNWL) has recently gained attention in identifying the challenges of nurses in their work life and addressing these personal and work-related issues among Filipino nurses at the hospitals in foreign countries. This descriptive- correlational study was conducted to determine the factors related to the quality of nursing work life (QNWL) of the selected 127 Filipino nurses at government hospitals in Tabuk and Jeddah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia using convenient sampling. The data were gathered employing the Quality of Nursing Work Life Survey by Brooks (2007) and were subjected to descriptive statistics (mean, frequency tables) and inferential statistics (Phi coefficient and Gamma coefficient). The Filipino nurses working at the government hospitals in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are middle-aged, married, and have better pay than the other nurses do. More Filipino staff nurses have 11 years of hospital experience. Those who have been working for 10 years abroad are connected with the hospitals in Tabuk. These Filipino nurses have high-quality nursing work life. Such indicates that they are able to balance work life and family life, understand the nature of their work, and explore the impact of the work environment on both nurse and patient as well as the effects of broad societal on the nursing practice. Personal characteristics, like age, civil status, and income of the Filipino nurses, do not determine their quality of nursing work life. The nurse’s work designation or job description has to some extent influence their quality of nursing work life, while the quality of nursing work life varies in geographical location. The nurses who are working in Jeddah have higher QNWL compared to their Tabuk counterparts. The Filipino nurses’ designation and the environment of their work place result to a high - quality nursing work life because they have been trained and shaped to become professionals beyond borders.Includes bibliographical referencesMaster of Arts in Nursin
