    Get PDF
Book chapterMy primary purpose in this article is to discuss how the Church can respond to needs and engage meaningfully in the midst of this life-threatening pandemic that has swept the whole world. More precisely, my intention is to understand how the Church as the body of Christ should respond to crisis situations and lead communities to resilience. My response to this question is born out of our actual experience and encounter with the COVID-19 pandemic. In this way, I hope my presentation will be more practical and realistic than theoretical

Abstract onlyThis research study aimed to develop and evaluate a gross motor assessment tool for children with autism. The ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Develop, Implement and Evaluate) Model was used as its research design. There were three (3) phases identified in the conduct of the research. Phase 1 was the needs analysis phase, and a focus group discussion (FGD) was employed with six special and early childhood educators to identify basic skills needed in teaching gross motor to children with autism. Phase 2 was the design and development phase. Inputs from Physical and Special Education experts were generated to organize the items that were included in the assessment tool. The third and last phase was the implementation and development phase. In this phase, assessment of the developed gross motor assessment tool was done. It employed thirty-four (34) learners with autism to participate in the study. The tool was used to determine the baseline gross motor skills of children with autism. After four weeks of implementing a gross motor program, the same tool was used to determine again these skills to check if these children improved in particular skill or not. In the evaluation phase, the assessment tool was given to three (3) experts. Two (2) from the field of Physical Education and one (1) from Special Education. Feedback and rating scale were provided to them to use in their evaluation of the given assessment tool. Result of the research showed that there is an existing standardized tool that is being used by teachers in assessing gross motor skills, but it is intended for regular students and no standardized test for students with autism. The design and development of the gross motor assessment tool generated ten (10) significant items that were needed to clearly evaluate the child with autism in terms of its gross motors. These items were balance, coordination, walking, running, hopping, jumping, sliding, skipping, leaping and galloping. It showed that these skills were considered to be important in the assessment tool having have a high factor loading value and is very reliable with a Cronbach Alpha of 0.875. The feedback of the teachers were also generated and has emphasized the importance of assessing and evaluating the gross motor skills of students as it is one crucial skills for them to move on a higher and complex skills for these children to maximize their potential as individuals.Includes bibliographical referencesDoctor of Education (Physical Education

Abstract onlyThis study was conducted to identify the competencies covered, instructional strategies used, and assessments employed by 20 Senior High School English Teachers in selected high schools in Iloilo City. The classroom strategies and assessments that were used by participants in each subject were identified and categorized based on their teaching perspectives. An exploratory research design was utilized to collect and analyze qualitative data. The results revealed that the teacher participants used the Constructivism perspective as their foundation for teaching both subjects as their effective method for improving and enhancing students' basic English communication skills. All of the oral communication in context competencies, as well as reading and writing skills, were covered by teacher participants. Moreover, the study revealed that the most common classroom strategy is lecture discussion. Further, the results show that oral skills are best assessed through role playing, while reading and writing skills are best assessed through answering written activities. This study suggests that students should be given more engaging and interesting content in which the importance of effective speaking, reading, and writing skills are emphasized. Moreover, to make the classroom environment engaging and motivating, this study recommends that a variety of instructional styles centered on students must be used to obtain a higher rate of language competence.Includes bibliographical referencesMaster of Arts in Education major in Educational Administration and Supervisio

Students’ information literacy skills in using e-information resources

    Get PDF
Abstract onlyThe study aimed at how well respondents could use electronic information resources based on their level of information literacy. When employing electronic resources, the outcomes of this study provided a better foundation for building and expanding students' information literacy skills. A descriptive survey method was utilized in this investigation employing a one-shot survey design. The findings of this survey revealed that more than half of the respondents have a strong literacy competence in using online resources to find relevant information for all of the tool literacy categories. Similarly, people with limited reading abilities have difficulty finding information from different sources. Furthermore, fifty percent of the respondents indicated that strong literacy competence on judging critically if the content on a website is legitimate and true as manifested in all questions under the critical literary section while modest literacy skills are required to evaluate critically if the information collected is credible and relevant. Students' ability to discern whether material on a website is real and truthful also influences their usage of e-resources as reflected in the findings. Meanwhile, the findings show that the capacity to understand when it is appropriate to use the most recent product development in new information technologies is determined by the ability to know when to use the e-information resources. The majority of the respondents had a good literacy skill. Nearly half of the respondents had moderate literacy abilities when it comes to deciding when to accept the constantly developing breakthroughs in information technology. As a result, in order to profit from the growing technology used by libraries, students (users) must be competent. The importance of technological literacy using electronic information resources cannot be possible since technology continues to quickly change people's communication, access, and retrieval of information.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Library and Information Scienc

Error analysis in the written texts of pre-service teachers

    Get PDF
Journal articleThe errors in the written texts of eleven (11) BSED English Pre-Service Teachers from a private university in Iloilo City, Philippines, are investigated in this study. The Error Analysis framework of Stephen Pit Corder was chosen to analyze errors of omissions, additions, selections, and misordering, as well as the sources of these errors, both interlingually and intralinguistically. The omission of past tense markers, auxiliary words, plural noun markers, and conjunctions revealed that the sentences were incorrectly structured. Written texts were complex and grammatically inappropriate due to the addition of verbs, plural noun markers, and articles. The inclusion of the present tense, the plural noun marker, articles, and other wordy expressions resulted in the expression's contradictory meaning. Furthermore, the presence of run-on or fused sentences, comma splices, and dangling modifiers resulted in sentence disorder and ambiguous meaning. There are a variety of reasons why English language learners make mistakes when learning a foreign language, one of which is Interlingual source, which occurs when they utilize their first language as a framework and then transform their ideas into English word for word. Intralingual, on the other hand, developed as a result of overgeneralization and the inability to apply rules in specific contexts, preferring simple grammatical combinations to intricate rules. In students' written texts, errors are widespread, indicating issues with writing processes. Pre-service teachers must be proficient in writing; thus, their English teachers must regularly review errors and conduct an intensive intervention session using appropriate instructional techniques to address their writing issues and needs

Abstract onlyThis study was conducted to determine the compliance of NIPSC’s academic library system to Commission on Higher Education requirements in the implementation of OBE curriculum. Mixed method was used to evaluate the academic institution’s library in the areas of vision, mission, goals, and objective (VMGO), administration, personnel, collection, services, physical set-up/facilities, information technology resources and services, financial budget and linkages. Data from actual observations in the library, documents and survey were obtained, analyzed and interpreted. Nine librarians from all NIPSC campuses were the respondents to the survey assessment tool adapted from CHED library standards in the library areas: vision, mission, goals, and objective (VMGO), administration, personnel, collection, services, physical set-up/facilities, information technology resources and services, financial budget and linkages. Majority of the campus libraries’ ratings was within and above CHED standards. Only few campuses were below standards. Described as Poor were Personnel, Collection Management and Information Technology; hence, these were priority areas considered in the development plan. Conversely; Vision, Mission, Goals and Objectives, Administration, Services and Utilization, Physical Facilities, Financial Resources, and Linkages were described as Good but were still considered to maintain or even exceed expectations. Therefore, the five-year development plan was crafted to ensure an efficient and effective implementation of the OBE curriculum that will place NIPSC as an institution at par with local and global standards.Includes bibliographical referencesMaster of Library and Information Scienc
