Development of module in teaching language literacy in Kindergarten 1
Abstract onlyThe main purpose of this study was to develop a module for teaching language literacy in Kinder 1 in public and private schools. This study utilized the Input-Output-Process model which employed Focus Group Discussion among eight kindergarten teachers. There were eight kindergarten teachers who participated in the Focus Group Discussion, and there were two expert teachers who evaluated and validated the interview guide and the content of the developed module. Data were analyzed through thematic analysis which generated thirteen themes about the activities, materials, and teaching methods used in teaching Language and Literacy. These include hands-on activities, manipulative and instructional materials, Socratic Method. Phonic sounds were used in the module of Language and Literacy in Kindergarten 1. There are three segments in the developed module: nursery rhymes, nursery songs, and story books. The distinctive feature of this module is that the researchers included interactive activities called “joy activities," thus it is not merely a paper-and-pencil method. Based on the assessment of two expert teachers, the module in Language Literacy in Kindergarten 1 was accepted and suitable for the learners in terms of activities, instructions, contents, and organization.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Early Childhood Educatio
A comparative study on the performance of commercial and shredded expanded polystyrene roughing filter as pretreatment for the improvement of the physical properties of water from Tigum River, San Isidro, Jaro, Iloilo City
Abstract onlyDomestic-scale water filters often require relatively low turbid water which is often not available in times of natural calamities, requiring the use of water pretreatment systems for turbidity reduction in the available water. Studies on expanded polystyrene (EPS) show its viability as a filter media in roughing filters used as water pretreatment. This study was conducted to design and construct a vertical upflow roughing filter as pretreatment using EPS as the filter media and to evaluate and compare the performance of two EPS setup: one composed of commercial EPS beads with diameter size of 3-5mm and the other is composed of shredded EPS beads with the same diameter size. Water analysis of the raw and product water was conducted to assess the performance of the EPS beads, to evaluate the physical parameters of turbidity, total suspended solids (TSS) and color, to calculate the turbidity reduction efficiency (TRE) and TSSRE, and to compare the performance of the two setups using statistical analysis. The TRE for both setups averaged more than 90% while the TSSRE averaged only about 15%. Statistical analyses show no significant difference for TRE, TSSRE, as well as color, for both setups. Shredded EPS was found to be as efficient as commercial EPS in turbidity reduction, while both are inefficient in TSS reduction. No correlations were found between turbidity reduction and TSS reduction.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Chemical Engineerin

The high rates of morbidity and mortality and the absence of vaccines cause fear among the people regardless of age, gender, or social status. People's fear is heightened by misinformation spread across all media types, especially on social media. Filipino college students are one of the top Internet users worldwide and are very active in social media. Hence they are very prone to misinformation. This paper aims to ascertain the levels of knowledge, precaution, and fear of COVID-19 of the college students in Iloilo, Philippines, and determine the effects of their information-seeking behavior on the variables above. This paper is a cross-sectional survey that used a qualitative-quantitative method and snowball sampling technique. Data were gathered among 228 college students using an online survey instrument a few months after the pandemic began. College students were knowledgeable of the basic facts about the highly infectious COVID-19. However, the majority were inclined to believe the myths and misinformation regarding the pandemic. A phenomenological study of the lived experiences of clan war survivors in Central Panay
Journal articleIn remote villages in Central Panay (Philippines), the presence of government institutions is not yet institutionalized and some traditional practices are still dominant in their way of life. Vengeance is still viewed by many Panay-Bukidnon people as an instrument in seeking justice and this is collectively pursued by the clan or the whole village. This paper aims to delve into the lived experiences of those who survived a three-year-long clan war between two villages in the Province of Antique, Philippines in the hope of gaining a greater understanding and perspective thereof. Five survivors were chosen using criterion sampling, and the researchers used qualitative phenomenological research method and utilized face-to-face unstructured interview and observations. Most of the participants are still in disbelief that they are alive because of the extent of brutality of the clan war. They have rationalized vengeance and the necessity to be brave in order to survive the ordeal. Most of those who fled to the forest during the first massacre narrated their experiences with sufferings, hunger and hardship just to survive. Their sad experiences gave them the wisdom to settle future disputes peacefully and with open heart in order to avoid another clan war where there are no winners, but only losers.
The lived experiences of the clan survivors will serve as a basis for enhancing indigenous conflict resolution with the active participation of municipal, city and town authorities, organizations working for the welfare development of indigenous people, and the National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP). They can also serve as a useful tool to harmonize some conflicting provisions in the Indigenous Peoples Right Act and the Local Government Code of the Philippines.University Research Cente
Theological library in the new normal environment: New dynamics of institutional relationship
Book chapterThe global pandemic has changed the course of how libraries function, transforming the service delivery, collection, space, and facilities of theological libraries. While there are discussions on faculty-librarians’ relationship, the value of the library committee and the need for cohesive library relationships with academic departments and other support offices are not fully engaged. This is much less in the conversations of theological librarians.
Hence, this empirical perspective from Henry Luce III Library (HLL) of the Central Philippine University hopes to provide insights on the role of faculty as members of the library committee and other stakeholders inside and outside the university
