    Get PDF
Journal articleThis paper determines the green supply chain initiatives being implemented by Darlings’ Milk Tea Shop and its influence on the sustainable performance of its business. Data were collected, transcribed, coded, and categorized to capture emerging themes. The research findings showed that eco-design and reverse logistic were the two highlighted GSCM initiatives that are being implemented by the business while there are still many factors in green purchasing that need to be considered. The findings of the study, however, are not universally applicable across different sectors. Hence, future research in multiple case study analysis and in different industrial contexts is recommended to provide generalization of the findings

Vibrio load and percentage composition of sucrose-fermenting vibrios in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) cultured in brackish water earthen ponds and biocontrol potential of recycled tilapia-conditioned greenwater against population growth of V. parahaemolyticus and non-sucrose-fermenting vibrios in the grow-out culture of white leg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei)

Journal articleVibrio are known opportunistic pathogens of pond-cultured fish and shrimp. This study determined the presumptive Vibrio count (PVC) and percentage composition of “beneficial” sucrose-fermenting vibrios (SFVs) and “pathogenic” non-SFVs in the water, sediment, gills and intestines of healthy tilapia Oreochromis niloticus collected every 2 weeks from Days 30 to 120 post-stocking in brackish water earthen ponds. PVCs in water and sediment ranged from 102–104 CFU/ml/CFU/g while in tilapias' gills and intestines, PVCs ranged from 103–106 CFU/g and 102–106 CFU/g, respectively, with SFVs dominating in water, sediment, gills (≥50%), and intestines (≥80%) of tilapia. Because use of tilapia-conditioned green water (TCGW) for shrimp's grow-out culture has been reported effective against acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease outbreaks caused by V. parahaemolyticus, PVC, SFVs/non-SFVs (%), and V. parahaemolyticus count (VPC) in the recycled TCGW and Litopenaeus vannamei's hepatopancreas were also examined from stocking until 105 days of culture (DOC) in earthen ponds. PVCs ranging from 102–103 CFU/ml and 103–104 CFU/g were noted in water and shrimp's hepatopancreas, respectively. While non-SFVs population in water varied, a downward trend typified by an abrupt 50% reduction was noted in hepatopancreas at DOC 42, and remained or further dropped until DOC 105. VPCs in water likewise varied (undetectable–102 CFU/ml) while in hepatopancreas, counts dropped to undetectable level from DOC 70 onwards. Current data illustrate that remarkable shift of SFVs' dominance in the water and concomitantly in shrimp's hepatopancreas, plays a pivotal role in regulating non-SFVs proliferation in shrimp's hepatopancreas via competitive exclusion. This study was funded by SEAFDEC AQD (study code: FH02-F2013-T) and in part by the Department of Science and Technology-National Research Council of the Philippines (DOST-NRCP) (NRCP Project No. E-225

Abstract onlyStaphylococcus aureus the leading cause of bacterial infections in hospitals and communities such as abscesses (boils), furuncles, and cellulitis is a major pathogen of increasing importance due to the rise in antibiotic resistance. Cardiospermum halicacabum a well-known plant was investigated to explore its capacity against bacterial activity such as S. aureus that would be useful in the production of compounds that can inhibit other pathogenic bacteria and other pathogenic microorganisms. This study attempted to extend such concept and explore the possibility of using halicacabum as possible agent in controlling human pathogens specifically the aureus. The mean (M) was used in order to determine the average zone of inhibition of aureus applied with balloon vine (C. halicacabum) leaf, fruit, and combined extracts, Amoxicillin (Positive control), and Ethanol (Negative control). Using the disc diffusion method, the crude extract of C. halicacabum showed that the greatest zone of inhibition of S. aureus was observed among those applied with Amoxicillin (M= 52mm), followed by those applied with balloon vine fruit extract (M=44mm) Both leaf extract (M=31mm and the combined leaf and fruit extract (M=30mm) also significantly exhibited inhibition against the S. aureus. There is no zone of inhibition observed among those applied with Ethanol (M=.00mm). The One-Way ANOVA test result shows that the p-value is .000 which is deemed to be statistically significant if p<.001.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Biology with specialization in Microbiolog

Abstract onlyThis study investigated the leadership orientation of nurse manager and its influence to nurses’ level of empowerment and perceived patient outcomes in selected private hospital in Iloilo City. A descriptive-correlational research design was utilized to analyze the data study. A total of 153 staff nurses from selected private hospitals in Iloilo City consented and completed the adopted questionnaires namely: multifactor- leadership questionnaire, a 12-item psychological empowerment tool, and a researcher-made questionnaire for perceived patient outcomes. Permission from the author to use the adopted standardized research instruments for the study was secured. Moreover, the researcher made questionnaire underwent validation and reliability testing. The data gathered were analyzed using statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS). To present descriptive measures, frequency distribution, percentages, and mean were used, while Cramer’s V and phi were used to test the relationship of leadership orientation of their nurse managers to staff nurses’ level of empowerment and perceived patient outcomes. More than half of staff nurses considered their nurse manager as transformational. Additionally, a higher proportion of staff nurses had a moderate level of empowerment and had a favorable attitude towards perceived patient outcomes. Moreover, Cramer’s V test revealed a very weak relationship between nurse managers' leadership orientation and staff nurses' level of empowerment. Consequently, there is weak relationship between leadership orientation of nurse managers and the staff nurses’ perception toward perceived patient outcomes. Lastly, employing the Cramer's v statistical analysis, a moderate association between staff nurses' level of empowerment and their perceived patient outcomes was observed.Includes bibliographical referencesMaster of Arts in Nursin

Abstract onlyThe study examined the cultural and creative industries in three Taiwanese universities. In particular, this examined the core components and future directions of the Culture and Creativity curricula in three Taiwanese universities, identified their challenges and potential growth, revealed their best practices, and improved the curriculum of Chinese culture and creative industry in light of the findings. Each of the three institutions has a special culture and curriculum when it comes to the objectives, execution, and evaluation of the culture and creative curricula. Their educational practice benefits from effective management and marketing initiatives that place a high priority on student marketing and training design. These are their strong areas because they give students first-hand knowledge of the sector. In Taiwan, there is a thriving art scene as well. According to the findings, institutions are excellent at managing their physical spaces and employing small-group instruction to familiarize students with marketing and design operations management. All institutions will have greater global direction if they concentrate on cross-border production collaboration. In order to satisfy the requirements of different majors and courses, it is advised that teachers of cultural and creative courses possess adaptable qualifications. They should also regularly evaluate and enhance their curricula for the cultural and creative sectors. Additionally, by offering structured, cross-disciplinary, and integrated courses, students can learn in an orderly and thorough manner. As a result, curriculum creation demands practical adjustments to the societal pulse and student exit strategies. Parents and students increasingly place a high focus on employability; thus, curriculum planning must be realistic and take the social climate and students' flexibility into account in order to avoid developing skills while meeting social demands.Includes bibliographical referencesDoctor of Education (Curriculum and Instruction

    Inter-village dispute: A phenomenological study

    Get PDF
Journal articleSeveral village disputes in Central Panay have created untold sufferings to indigenous communities due to their violent nature. Some disputes of this nature have escalated to bloody village raids that claimed several lives and untold dislocation of families. Vengeance is considered as a collective village or clan undertaking and is strongly embedded in Panay-Bukidnon culture. It is considered as a shared community obligation rather than a personal pursuit (Rio, 2016). This study aims to understand the lived experiences of those who have experienced violent village disputes and qualitative phenomenological research method was utilized to fully explore the phenomenon. Face-to-face unstructured interviews were conducted in their natural habitat. There are five emerging themes: (1) disbelief that they were able to survive years of village disputes; (2) rationalization of vengeance; (3) the necessity to be brave; (4) sufferings endured in the forest; and (5) the importance of peaceful dispute settlement. Exploring and understanding the phenomenon of village disputes will enable the local Government Units (LGUs), the National Commission on Indigenous People, and Non-government organizations to formulate a more realistic means of maintaining social order in the hinterlands of Central Panay
