Synthesis of polyaspartic acid-capped 2-aminoethylamino acid as a green water treatment agent and study of its inhibition performance and mechanism for calcium scales
No full textJournal articlePolyaspartic acid (PASP), a well-known green scale inhibitor for industrial water treatment, might be decomposed with prolonged duration, and its anti-scaling performance against CaCO3 and CaSO4 is diminished at a low concentration (<10 mg L−1) and a high temperature. With semi-ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) tetrasodium salt as the mimicking model, novel phosphorus-free PASP-capped 2-aminoethylamino acid (PASP–ED2A) containing side chains bearing multi-functional groups is rationally designed and successfully prepared via the ring-opening reaction of cheap poly(succinimide) under mild reaction conditions with the assistance of readily available 2-aminoethyl amino acid. The static scale inhibition method is used to evaluate the scale inhibition performance of the as-synthesized PASP derivative. Scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy are utilized to monitor the crystallization process of calcium carbonate and calcium sulfate scales, and density functional theory calculations are conducted to shed light on the relationship between the molecular structure and scale inhibition mechanism of PASP–ED2A. Results show that the as-prepared PASP–ED2A shows better scale inhibition performance for CaCO3 and CaSO4 than PASP with a low concentration, a high temperature, and an extended duration. Particularly, PASP–ED2A with a concentration of 10 mg L−1 exhibits the best scale inhibition performance for CaCO3; its scale inhibition capacity is about two times as much as that of PASP. The reason lies in that the coordination atoms in the molecular structure of PASP–ED2A can chelate with Ca2+ to inhibit the combination of Ca2+ with anions and prevent the generation of CaCO3 and CaSO4 scales. The PASP–ED2A derivative can more efficiently retard the formation and growth of CaCO3 and CaSO4 crystal nuclei and exerts better inhibition performance against CaCO3 and CaSO4 scales than PASP
Self-efficacy, teaching behavior, and teaching performance of faculty: Basis for the creation of a video for professional enhancement
Get PDFAbstract onlyThis study aimed to determine the self-efficacy, teaching behavior, and teaching performance of elementary school teachers in Xinzheng City in Henan Province, China for Academic Year 2021-2022. A descriptive-correlational study utilizing one-shot survey research design was used to gather data from 287 randomly selected elementary school teachers. The study revealed that the overall level of teachers' self-efficacy was moderate, their teaching behavior was fair, and their overall level of teaching performance was high. There was a strong relationship between the teachers’ occupied position and their self- efficacy. Furthermore, sex and occupied position were found to have moderate relationship with the teachers’ teaching behavior. However, no significant relationship existed between the teachers’ characteristics in terms of sex, educational attainment, length of teaching experience, and their teacher self-efficacy; between the teachers’ educational attainment, length of teaching experience and their teaching behavior; and between the teachers’ sex, educational attainment, length of teaching experience, occupied position, and their teaching performance. The teachers’ self-efficacy was found to be significantly related with their teaching behavior and there was a strong positive association between teacher self-efficacy, teaching behavior, and teaching performance.Includes bibliographical referencesDoctor of Education (with specialization in Curriculum and Instruction
Work performance of fast-food chain employees in Iloilo City amidst the COVID-19 pandemic
Get PDFJournal articleThis study aimed to determine the work performance level among the employees working at a fast-food restaurant in Iloilo City amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The researchers selected convenience sampling. The respondents were the 73 employees working at fast-food chain in Iloilo City. The study employed a descriptive research design. Data were gathered using a 30-item researcher-made questionnaire and were rated using a 5-point Lickert Scale. Descriptive statistics such as frequency count, percentage count, and mean, and inferential statistics such as One-Way ANOVA were used to analyze the gathered data. Results of the study revealed that fast-food chain employees have an outstanding work performance level in all of the dimensions job-task proficiency, non-job-task proficiency, written and oral communication, demonstrating effort, personal discipline, and peer and team performance amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.Central Philippine Universit
Destination attraction of Villa Valderrama Mountain Resort Antique through the perspective of visiting tourists
Get PDFAbstract onlyThis study is titled “Destination Attraction through Tourist Perspective Visiting Villa Valderrama Mountain Resort Antique. This study investigated the level of attractiveness of destination attributes and demographic profile of tourists according to Sex, Age and Educational Attainment, in order to assist the Mountain Resort in identifying areas in need of improvement and demographic factors to consider. The data was gathered using researchers made questionnaire conducted online through google forms from thirty five (35) respondents conveniently chosen. According to sex, majority of the respondents are females (25 out of 35), while the rest are males (10 out of 35). In terms of education, all 35 respondents have attained college level education. As for age, majority is young (25 out of 35) and the rest are adults (10 out of 35). The results show that Accessibility, Accommodation, Activities and Attraction, Amenities, and Assistance of Villa Valderrama Mountain Resort have an evaluation of attractive, while Attitude/ Atmosphere has an evaluation of highly attractive. Moreover, the overall level of attractiveness of Villa Valderamma has an evaluation of attractive. Findings also show that there is a significant difference in the level of attractiveness between males and females for Accessibility, Accommodation, Activities and Attraction, and Assistance, with females having a higher evaluation of attractiveness than males. Moreover, there is no sufficient evidence to prove significant differences between age groups on all destination attributes. Factors influencing tourist decision to visit Meland Farm Resort
Get PDFAbstract onlyThis descriptive research study aimed to determine the customers' level of satisfaction with the factors that influenced their visit to Meland Farm Resort at the Municipality of San Rafael, Province of Iloilo. Forty-six customers were taken as respondents of the study through accidental sampling. Results revealed the level of satisfaction influencing tourist decision to visit Meland Farm Resort in terms of amenities, personnel, attraction, services, and accessibility where the respondents evaluated as very satisfactory. Where the availability of varied types of cottages, courteous and friendly staff, a clean with good ambiance and road accessible to the tourist with satisfactory safety and security in terms of availability and visibility of lifeguards and first aid kit. When grouped according to age, place of residence and sex there is no significant difference was noted in the respondents' level of satisfaction in terms of amenities, personnel, attraction, accessibility, and safety and security. Generally, the Meland Farm Resort is concluded to be one of the tourist spots in Iloilo, and thus, it has to improve its amenities to receive more guests daily.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Tourism Managemen
Self-assessed innovation skill, information literacy, and problem awareness in bachelor thesis writing among English major students in China
Get PDFAbstract onlyThis study aimed to determine the innovation skill, information literacy, and problem awareness among English major students in Chinese universities in their Bachelor thesis writing as basis for the enhanced curriculum for English majors. The descriptive correlational research design was utilized to determine the relationship between the innovation skill, information literacy, and problem awareness of English majors in their Bachelor thesis writing, which was anchored to constructivism theory and social cognitive theory. Two hundred sixty-two English majors were selected from three Chinese universities using the multistage probability sampling. Results showed that the students had “Moderately High" level of innovation skill, “High” level of information literacy, and “Strong” extent of problem awareness. Furthermore, information literacy and innovation skill significantly influenced the problem awareness of the students. The findings were used as basis for the enhanced curriculum for English majors, which mainly focused on cultivating students’ innovation skill, improving students’ information literacy, and constructing their problem awareness. The results will help English majors improve their Bachelor thesis writing and assist English teachers guide the students’ thesis writing effectively. It can also facilitate university management to formulate talent training programs and adjust the curriculum management project to improve the whole educational effect.Includes bibliographical referencesDoctor of Educatio
