    Get PDF
Abstract onlyInfectious diseases kill millions of people around the globe and the discovery of antimicrobial agents revolutionizes the ability to treat infectious diseases. However, over the past years, the use and misuse of antimicrobials have caused emergence of antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) pathogens that threaten the effectiveness of antimicrobial agents in the cure of infectious diseases (File, 2014). To address the increasing concern on AMR, this study was conducted to have an in-depth picture of the Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) Program, including their perceived barriers, in the lens of healthcare professionals in participating private hospitals in Iloilo City. The study utilized the Case Study approach, which is a qualitative research, designed to explore and deepen the understanding on how people experience a certain topic (Creswell 2013). A purposive sampling technique was used to intentionally select a group of people that can provide in-depth information regarding the phenomenon of interest which is the AMS program. A total of seven (7) participants agreed to be interviewed for the study. Out of them, only three (3) participants agreed to be observed in their place of work. The participants consisted of Infection Control Nurses and Pharmacists. Data were collected using multiple sources of information which includes interviews, direct observations, and checklist review. Frequency Count, Percentage, and Mean were used to describe the quantitative data in the study, and Content Analysis was used to describe the qualitative data in the study. Findings of the study showed that healthcare professionals attending the AMS program are mostly young professionals. Pharmacists and infection control nurses involved in antimicrobial stewardship is not primarily dominated by one sex. Instead, there is an almost equal distribution between the sexes. Furthermore, most of the participants have more than a year of experience in their respective professions. Analyzing the quantitative data in a holistic perspective, AMS program implementation is very good in the education core element. Despite some hospitals lagging in the policy, guidelines and clinical aspect, the consolidated information showed that this is the second highest implemented core element. Third to fifth in the hierarchy is the leadership support, surveillance of AMU / AMR and action. Most of the participants verbalized lack of financial support, limited IT-capability and non-compliant healthcare professionals as barriers in the implementation of the AMS program. Narratives, direct observations and checklist review of both pharmacists and infection control nurses showed similarities in their perception of the AMS program. This implies that hospitals do not vary significantly in their perception, instead they do share the same experiences and challenges when implementing the program protocols. With this knowledge, we can already identify the issues that need to be addressed to strengthen and enhance an AMS program which will benefit and improve the healthcare system in our locality.Includes bibliographical referencesMaster of Arts in Nursin

Abstract onlyThis study was conducted to explore the lived experiences of mothers having children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This study answered the question “What were the lived experiences of mothers having children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)? Employing descriptive phenomenology, the following steps were used in the study: bracketing, intuiting, analyzing and describing. The results then helped the researcher in understanding the lived experiences of mothers in caring for a child with ADHD. This study used qualitative research guided by a descriptive phenomenological approach which involved the utilization of unstructured interview as the main data gathering method. The study utilized the Colaizzi’s method of data analysis to describe and explore the lived experiences of mothers having children with ADHD and was done in schools and homes of children with ADHD depending on the preference of the participants. The study included mothers who were the primary caregiver of children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in Iloilo City who were selected using purposive sampling. The study concentrated on the different lived experiences of these mothers in having children with ADHD. The study was limited only to the number of participants that were based on the data saturation. The findings of the study showed that mothers had their challenging experiences because of the behavior of their child with ADHD, which included avoidance of cognitive tasks, difficulty in managing emotions, hyperactivity and trouble waiting their turn, inattention and lack of focus, power struggle and strengths and passion. It also showed how they responded to the challenges of raising a child with ADHD, managing their tantrums, establishing a routine and creating structure, limiting distractions and acceptance. It was found out that mothers also found that they had to keep a balance when it comes to discipline, whether it be strict or lax and whether the father’s discipline style is more effective. Finally, mothers found themselves struggling as they care for children with ADHD and thus, they have moments of impatience and outbursts, having guilt feelings and being exasperated and having breakdowns. Children with ADHD have behavioral problems which are challenging and mothers caring for them have to deal with the accompanying challenges. These problems are cognitive and behavioral in nature that it takes a lot of patience to deal with. Raising a child with ADHD requires much time and effort from their caregivers especially their mothers. Because of the child’s ADHD condition, mothers need to strike a balance in their discipline styles. Journal articleThis study was conducted primarily to determine the factors influencing the decision not to retire among the retiring personnel of Iloilo Provincial Government and to find out the relationship between the factors occupational, economic and psychological and their decision not to retire. The study utilized the one-shot, researcher-made questionnaire. The enumeration method was utilized by purposely determining the 75 retiring personnel with age ranging above 60 but below 65 years old as respondents. The level of statistical significance was set at 0.05. Results showed that when the retiring personnel was categorized in terms of gender, civil status, office, length of service and monthly salary, majority of the retiring personnel were females, were mostly married, have been serving the office for 36 to 40 years, had a monthly salary ranging 20,000 and below and mostly from the General Services Office (GSO). The occupational factor was found to have a strong extent of influence in the decision of the retiring personnel not to retire before the age of 65, while economic and psychological factors were found to have a moderate extent of influence. The result showed that a little less than half (41.3%) of the retiring personnel were firm in their decision not to retire before the age of 65 even though their concerns were already satisfied. A significant result with a low correlation was noted between the psychological factor and decision not to retire among the retiring personnel. This finding was supported by the results of Cramer’s V. The result was interpreted using Garrett’s Interpretation of Coefficient of Correlation. It was recommended that retiring personnel should be encouraged to attend programs, training and seminars to prepare them for the soon transition. The organization should revisit existing programs conducted focusing on psychological factors and well-being of the retirees to develop post-retirement plans

The study explored the extent of the relationship between the organizational support and resilience among nurses in a COVID referral hospital in the province of Aklan, Philippines. This study is descriptive correlational and employed a one-shot survey design to ninety-eight (98) nurses with specific status of employment: permanent, contractual, and casual. The respondents were experienced in a highly-competitive situation caused by the complex pandemic. The researcher utilized questionnaires on the perceived organizational support 36-item scale and the Connor-Davidson 25-item resilience scale, both adopted with corresponding permission to use. Ninety-eight (98) responses were collected with a rate of 87 percent (n = 98). The findings revealed that seven out often nurses receive a low level of perceived organizational support (73.4 percent). On the other hand, seven out often nurses had a high-to very high degree of resilience (72.4 percent). The findings also revealed that nurses expect the organization to consider increasing their salary and to have an active role in decision-making. Considerably, it is recommended to promote a strategic arrangement, particularly in pay levels, and to initiate collaboration between managers and staff nurses, especially in organizational management. Furthermore, a Spearman’s Rho correlation coefficient value of .319 and significance value of .001 was determined. This study shows how nurses’ perceptions of organizational support are related to the degree of their resilience in the workplace, demonstrating a direct, moderate, and significant relationship. No full text
This project study proposes a two-storey Zion Baptist Church in Ledesco Avenue, Lapaz, Iloilo City to solve the problem of the Zion Baptist community of renting costly spaces for weekly church services and of holding various events in different locations. The designed structure has a capacity range of 150 to 300 people and has rooms with different functions. The building incorporates green technologies such as natural lighting and natural ventilation by utilizing glass windows with films. The study includes architectural, structural, electrical, and plumbing designs and specifications; cost estimates; and a construction project schedule. The reinforced concrete structural members were designed using the Ultimate Strength Design (USD) method while the steel truss members were designed using Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD), both based on the National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP) 2015. The proposed project has a floor area of 243.67 sq. m . per floor, with an estimated cost of PHP 7,763,946.80 and a construction duration of about 210 working days. Donations, sponsorships, and collections from fundraising activities for this project are integrated into the financial plan of the church community. Structural prestressed beams are recommended to substitute the long-span conventional beams designed to provide better vertical clearance headroom in the congregation area. A phase-by-phase construction of every floor level is also suggested to be able to use the finished floors soonest as well as regulate the cash flow for the construction of this proposed building.Includes bibliographical references (149-150)Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineerin
