Sleep quality and academic performance among student nurses at a Private University
Abstract onlyThis study aimed to determine the level of sleep quality and academic performance among student nurses at a private university in Iloilo City, Philippines, utilized the descriptive-correlational research design. Sleep quality was assessed through seven components, including subjective sleep experience, sleep latency, sleep duration, sleep efficiency, sleep disturbances, sleep medication, and daytime dysfunction. Academic performance was assessed based on the General Weighted Average computed from all level-specific subjects, including Related Learning Experience, during the first semester, academic year 2023–2024. The respondents were 286 student nurses who were randomly selected from the total population (N=1,004). This study utilized stratified random sampling using a spinning wheel. Data were gathered using the standardized Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index questionnaire to assess sleep quality, while academic performance was measured using the General Weighted Average. Descriptive statistics (mean, frequency, percentage and tables) and inferential statistics (Spearman’s Rho) were used. The findings showed majority of students reported poor sleep quality, while a significant portion demonstrated good academic performance. The relationship between sleep quality and academic performance was analyzed using Spearman’s rho (+0.757), indicating a strong positive correlation between the two variables. Furthermore, there is a significant relationship between sleep quality and academic performance among student nurses (p=0.000), suggesting that students with good sleep quality were more likely to achieve excellent academic performance, while those with poorer sleep quality were more likely to experience lower academic performance.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Nursin
Lived experiences of student nurses learning and socializing media at a private university in Iloilo City
Abstract onlySocial media is vital for learning, particularly in higher education, where youths are perceptive. This study explored the lived experiences of Level 2 student nurses at a private university in Iloilo City, Philippines, and focused on how social media affected their learning and socializing. Data was obtained using phenomenological constructivism, with participants selected based on criteria. Only 14 (46.7%) of the thirty student nurses screened met the inclusion criteria, including thirteen females and one male. Data saturation was achieved after a semi-structured interview with the eighth student, which implied that no new themes occurred after this point. Preliminary findings suggested that TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram enhanced academic learning by offering educational resources and promoting collaboration. However, the narrow nature of online communication creates diversions and makes it harder to develop lasting relationships. The five questions focused on the impact of social media on learning and socializing: communication efficiency, information accessibility, distractions and misinformation, social connections, and relationship-building challenges. The research findings revealed a complex connection with social media as a useful tool for learning and socializing, and a source of distraction and interpersonal conflict. This study sheds light on the dual role of social media in the educational life of student nurses. However, it also has issues with disruptive and interpersonal dynamics.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Nursin

Impact study on the additional air conditioning load at Central Philippine University
Abstract onlyThis study examines how an added load on the electrical infrastructure of Central Philippine University (CPU) affects the system’s capability to carry increased energy requirements. The research targets the evaluation of existing transformer banks and energy consumption patterns to find if the current infrastructure is sufficient to support added cooling systems without causing power overloads or voltage instability. The data collection was done by measuring load, transformer capacity and energy consumption with a data logger and a systematic measurement technique. The baseline energy consumption of university buildings was also studied, energy requirements of new air conditioning units were estimated, and the total energy consumption was projected including the new load. The key findings indicate that the electrical system of the CPU may need improvement in the transformer capacity, power factor correction and load distribution for system reliability and efficiency. The results presented in this research can be used to help the university administration, facilities management, and future researchers find ways of developing sustainable energy solutions and infrastructure improvements in academic institutions.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Electrical Engineerin
GIS mapping of fishpond classification in Jordan, Guimaras
Abstract onlyIn Guimaras, fishponds are essential to the local aquaculture sector, particularly in the Municipality of Jordan, the provincial capital. However, recent data highlights an erratic trend in aquaculture production over three consecutive years, with the lowest output recorded in 2020, reflecting a 10.50% decrease from the previous year. Despite advancements in remote sensing technologies like Geographic Information System (GIS), there is a notable absence of digitalized, open-access maps containing detailed fishpond information. This study aims to address this gap by integrating GIS technology and field surveys to generate a digitized map for fishponds of different classifications in the Municipality of Jordan, Guimaras. Field surveys were conducted in six of the 14 barangays, identifying eight active fishponds. Ocular visits and interviews were carried out using a profile data sheet to gather production data. Geographic coordinates were collected using the DA GeoCamera application and transferred to Google Earth Pro. These were then digitized using ArcGIS 10.8.1 software to create maps. Results showed that the majority of active fishponds are situated in Brgy. Sinapsapan (37.5%), while the other barangays contributed equally (12.5%). All fishponds were found to have concrete gates, with half utilizing a modified intensive culture system and the other half an intensive culture system. Spatial analysis using the Average Nearest Neighbor (ANN) tool quantified spatial relationships and revealed that active fishponds in Jordan, Guimaras, are randomly distributed. This study provides a valuable resource for aquaculture planning and management, promoting the sustainable development of fishpond operations in Guimaras.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineerin
