Evaluate the potenticity of lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) essential oil based as ointment activity against Staphylococcus aureus

    Get PDF
Abstract onlyStaphylococcus aureus, a gram-positive bacteria, is a significant threat to many sectors because of its involvement in generating infectious illnesses, most notably bumblefoot in chickens. In this study, we investigated the possibility of lemongrass essential oil (LEO) as an alternate therapy for Staphylococcus aureus infection. We studied the efficiency of LEO in treating Staphylococcus aureus using precise evaluation methods, including minimum inhibitory concentration, zone of inhibition, and potency. The treatments, which included LEO, virgin coconut oil, and beeswax, were given in a fully randomized manner. The minimal inhibitory concentration and zone of inhibition data were analyzed using analysis of variance in a randomized method, and potency tests were benchmarked against known criteria. Our findings showed that a 5.00% concentration of LEO firmly reduced the development of Staphylococcus aureus, with effectiveness comparable to the positive control 72 hours after exposure. These findings highlight the possibility of 5.00% LEO in an ointment as a natural alternative to commercially marketed therapies for Staphylococcus aureus infections. However, more research using in vivo testing is required to identify possible allergic responses in laboratory animals. This study adds to the continuing efforts to battle Staphylococcus aureus infections, particularly in Philippine native chicken. It highlights the possible significance of natural therapies in resolving antimicrobial resistance issues in the sector.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Agricultur

Full text availableThis study aimed to know the Tilt Phenomenon: Level of Tilting and Level of Impulsive Behavior of Online Mobile Gamers in a Private Higher Education Institution. The 171 College of Arts and Science who participated in the study’s sample were chosen by simple random sampling. A face to face survey was utilized to collect quantitative data as part of the descriptive comparative research design. A rating scale and survey questionnaires were provided by the researchers for the study. Using the Level of Anger Scale (LAS) by DiGiuseppe and Plutchik's Impulsivity Scale by Psiquiatr as an instrument. The data's results underwent statistical analysis using both descriptive (frequency count, percentage, mean, and standard deviation) and inferential methods (T-test and ANOVA). The results revealed that male respondents made up a bigger portion of the sample. Additionally, when classified by tilting levels, they were assessed, revealing an overall high level. Both sex respondents exhibited high tilting levels, and across types of online mobile gaming and online mobile gaming durations, high tilting levels were consistently observed. The study also explored impulsive behavior, revealing a prevalent high level. Both sexes, across types of online mobile gaming and online mobile gaming durations, exhibited high impulsive behavior. Additionally, the study’s findings showed that the results of the analysis showed non-significant differences between tilting levels and demographic variables, supporting the null hypothesis of no significant difference. The study also showed non-significant differences, reinforcing the null hypothesis of no significant difference in impulsive behavior. The findings indicate that, within the College of Arts and Sciences, students engage in online mobile gaming with considerable tilting and impulsive behavior, but these behaviors do not significantly differ based on demographic factors, types of online mobile gaming, and online mobile gaming durations. The research contributes valuable insights into the gaming behavior of this specific student population.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Psycholog

Abstract onlyThis study may benefit future researchers, students, and farmers by providing useful knowledge. The effectiveness of Jatropha curcas leaf essential oil against Pseudomonas aeruginosa in native chicken was studied at Central Philippine University. The researcher conducted an essential oil production process on bacterial samples to determine the MIC and ZOI levels, utilizing methods such as collecting plant material, preparing the broth medium, and inoculating the bacteria to determine the effectiveness of Jatropha curcas leaf essential oil. The DMRT statistically evaluated the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of Jatropha curcas leaf essential oil at 60°C hot bath temperature and revealed that the highest mean percentage was 94.89%, indicating that 75% and 50% of the Jatropha curcas leaf essential oil were statistically not significantly different. Jatropha curcas leaf essential oil established appraisal levels, revealing that treatments with positive control and 100% concentration developed a wider ZOI, while DMRT results showed that treatments 85% and 100% showed no significant difference against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Jatropha curcas leaf essential oil antimicrobial potency against Pseudomonas aeruginosa showed a range of 60% to 150% potency level after 72 hours of exposure.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Agricultur

Lived experiences of online food delivery riders: A phenomenological study

    Get PDF
Abstract onlyOnline food delivery (OFD) is a relatively new industry in the Philippines that has grown significantly in recent years. This expansion has been accompanied by a noticeable surge in the number of OFD riders, who play a pivotal role in the transportation of food items from restaurants to customers' residences. This phenomenon has drawn interest to the developing industry, revealing a qualitative research gap. To address this, this study adopted a phenomenological approach to investigate the lived experiences of OFD riders, aiming to uncover the essence of these experiences and how these sustained them in their job. The participants of the study are six male OFD riders from GrabFood and Foodpanda who are employed within Iloilo City. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews and were analyzed using Braun and Clarke's thematic analysis. The findings revealed the main theme illustrating how riders navigate through various challenging situations. Moreover, a recurring theme emerged, indicating that participants derived satisfaction from the flexibility and autonomy offered by their current job, surpassing their previous employment experiences. This finding aligns with Hackman and Oldham's Job Characteristics Theory and Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. The study also revealed riders' struggles with road and web-related issues, system errors, and instances of fake bookings and fraudulent orders. Despite the challenges and difficulties they faced, the participants expressed a strong preference for retaining their current employment, citing the need to generate income to support their families and the freedom to work flexible hours without the presence of a supervisor. The findings of this study contribute to raising awareness among OFD riders regarding their shared occupational experiences and enhancing consumer understanding of the challenges faced by them. Furthermore, this research provides a profound understanding of the lived experiences of delivery riders within a rapidly expanding industry in the Philippines.Bachelor of Science in Psycholog
