Abstract onlySalt is one of the oldest commodities produced, traded, and consumed in the Philippines. Before any colonial influences, a long history of indigenous salt-making already existed. However, by the year 2000, the supply had reduced dramatically due to a variety of factors. Although remote sensing technologies, such as Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping, have been extensively utilized to enhance agricultural productivity in the Philippines, the spatial dynamics and patterns of salt production remain relatively understudied. Through the integration of GIS technology and field surveys, this study aims to produce a map and analyze the pattern distribution of salt production in the Municipality of San Lorenzo, Guimaras. Three out of 12 barangays were identified as salt-producing sites and recorded with 13 actively operating salt farms. Ocular visits and interviews were done utilizing a profile data sheet to gather salt production information. The geographic coordinates were recorded using a GPS and the DA-Geocamera and Google Earth images of the salt production areas were digitized in ArcGIS 10.8.2 software to generate the maps. Results show that salt production in the Municipality of San Lorenzo is located mainly at Brgy. Cabano, Brgy. M. Chavez and Brgy. Suclaran and has a total area of 30.85 ha with 134 salt producers, producing an average annual production of 468.5 metric tons of salt. Spatial analysis techniques, including point pattern analysis was employed to identify spatial trends and patterns in salt production. The findings revealed that the production of salt within the Municipality of San Lorenzo in Guimaras is considered dispersed as to production index.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineerin

Abstract onlyThe study aimed to investigate the reading comprehension skills of the Grade 3 primary learners in private and public school. The study used the quantitative-comparative research design to evaluate and compare the literal and inferential reading comprehension skills of the learners. The study's respondents were 62 pupils in total with 29 from a private school and 33 from a public school. The purposive sampling method was used to select respondents most likely to yield appropriate and useful information. The research instruments used are short stories, questionnaires, and rubrics. The data gathering procedure included the letters for the principal in private and public school and a requested list of short stories from the existing curriculum that had been examined and agreed upon by the teacher. The questionnaire measures were developed by Barrett’s taxonomy, written at a reading level appropriate for Grade 3 learners to answer. The data gathered were tabulated and subjected to statistical analysis using the frequency count, percentage, mean, and standard deviation which were employed for descriptive analysis. The Mann-Whitney U was used for the inferential statistics, all set at .05 level of significance. The results revealed that in terms of their literal and inferential means, the participants from a private school had higher- level comprehension skills compared to the participants from a public school despite both being average. This implies that while students in private school and public school have average level of reading comprehension skills the private school have different and higher level of reading comprehension skills in the literal and inferential categories with both having basic literal comprehension skills and a disparity in the inferential skills calling a review on the teaching methods and available learning resources in public school, as private schools had advanced methods and resources that led to a better literal and inferential comprehension skills despite both being average.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Elementary Educatio

Abstract onlyThe purpose of this survey-correctional research was to determine the corporate culture awareness and job satisfaction as related to work performance. The researcher selected two private training agencies in China as the locale of the study. There were 150 respondents who participated in the study. The frequency count, percentage, mean and standard deviation were used for descriptive statistics, while T-Test, One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and Pearson’s R were utilized for inferential statistics, all set at .05 level of significance. The study revealed that there was “moderate extent” of corporate culture awareness, prevailing “dissatisfaction”, and “moderate level” of work performance among employees in private training agencies. While differences in corporate culture awareness between two companies were observed, the disparity was marginally not statistically significant. When employees are grouped based on their company affiliation, significant differences in job satisfaction, and work performance were found. A positive correlation was found between corporate culture awareness and job satisfaction, indicating that a better understanding of corporate culture is associated with higher levels of satisfaction. A moderate positive correlation was observed between corporate culture awareness and work performance, suggesting that a better understanding of corporate culture may contribute to improved job performance. Lastly, job satisfaction was positively correlated with work performance, implying that employees who are more satisfied tend to perform better in their roles.Includes bibliographical referencesMaster in Business Administratio

Abstract onlyTechnology can support and modify education in many ways. Technology can also aid in nursing education in the form of high-fidelity simulations using electronic training manikins. Clinical Instructors can program the manikins to simulate scenarios that student nurses might encounter in clinical practice. Based on the manikin's symptoms, students can take vital signs, monitor changes, and make decisions. These simulations gave them a sense of realism as if they were working with an actual client. The target population and sample size, determined using the stratified random sampling method, comprised 147 respondents from a private university in Iloilo City. This study utilized a quantitative descriptive-correlational research design with a validated and reliable research instrument. The results showed that 78.2% of the respondents were female and 21.8 % were male; 69.4% were aged 21; and 53.7% were in the lower middle class. Notably, 35.4% of respondents reported a frequency of exposure range of 2.30 or below, while 37.4% had a self-perceived competence range of 4.71 or above. Statistical analysis indicated a strong relationship between self-perceived competence and frequency of exposure (Spearman’s rho = + .645), and this strong relationship was statistically significant (p= .002). This suggested that self-perceived competence directly influenced the frequency of exposure of Student Nurses in a private university in Iloilo City. In conclusion, the respondents were predominantly female, mostly 21 years old, and in the lower middle class. The frequency of exposure was found to be less than two simulations and the mean score of 4.5 suggested that the respondents' self-perceived competence was "very high."Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Nursin

Abstract onlyThis quantitative study aimed to determine the impact of graphic short stories on the inferential reading skills among Grade 7 students at a private university in Iloilo City. The research focused on the three Most Essential Learning Competencies from the Department of Education (DepEd) English Curriculum: (1) inferring the main idea, (2) inferring supporting details, and (3) predicting outcomes. Student reading levels were assessed using an adapted scale from the Philippine Informal Reading Inventory (Phil- IRI), which classifies comprehension skills into frustration, instructional, and independent levels. A purposive sample of 30 Grade 7 students was selected for the study. Frequency count, percentage, mean, and standard deviation calculations were utilized as statistical tools for quantitative data analysis. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Sum test, a non-parametric statistical method, was utilized to evaluate the data with a significance level set at 0.025. The findings revealed that before the use of graphic short stories, the students’ inferential skills, as measured by their ability to infer the main idea, supporting details, and outcomes, were predominantly at the frustration level. With the introduction of graphic short stories, these skills improved, advancing to the instructional level. When both of the scores were compared, the results showed that there was a significant improvement in the inferential reading skills of the students when graphics were included in the short stories.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Secondary Education Major in Englis

In vivo efficacy of lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) emulsified concentrate on colony count of Mycoplasma gallisepticum and hematology of infected native chickens

Abstract onlyMycoplasma gallisepticum is widely recognized as the causative agent of chronic respiratory diseases in chickens. Antibiotics are commonly used to prevent or control such diseases, but eventually might lead to resistance of bacteria with continued use. It has been recognized that discovering an antibiotic derived from natural sources, yet possessing comparable effectiveness in combating this infection, is detected. Thus, this study was conducted to determine the efficacy of Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) emulsified concentrate against Mycoplasma gallisepticum-infected native chicken in terms of number of colonies of the bacteria and enhancement of blood samples for hematology before and after two weeks of post-exposure. The collected data was analyzed using colony counter and hematology analyzer. The data that was obtained was handed over for analysis and discussion. The result from the study indicated that there were reduction of colony forming unit after treated with Lemongrass emulsified concentrate in both throat and cloaca of native chickens, while the blood parameters of native chickens increased the availability of lymphocytes, mean corpuscular hemoglobin, and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration. The white blood cell, red blood cell, hemoglobin, hematocrit, and mean corpuscular volume recorded significant reduction in the blood levels. Hence, the use of Lemongrass essential oil on Mycoplasma gallisepticum-infected native chickens significantly affect the number of colonies of Mycoplasma gallisepticum only.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Agricultur

The untold stories of fraternity hazing survivors

Abstract onlySeveral research studies have been conducted to investigate the reasons behind individuals' motivation to join fraternities despite the existence of hazing practices. These studies have identified a range of societal, cultural, educational, and personal factors that contribute to this phenomenon. Some of the key factors include a desire to support disadvantaged groups, a commitment to cultural traditions, the pursuit of academic prestige, and the opportunity for personal growth. It is worth noting that most of these studies have focused specifically on Western fraternities that engage in hazing. Researchers used Symbolic Interactionism to comprehend participant narratives and experiences. Alderfer's ERG theory studied motivations to join organizations and complete hazing rituals. The theory sheds light on experiences leading to new fraternity members. Three participants underwent semi-structured interviews through purposive and snowball sampling using narrative inquiry as a methodology and thematic analysis. The analysis of the lived narratives of three male participants from the province of Iloilo revealed that Bandura's self-efficacy is the latent proof that believing in oneself to overcome the pain associated with challenges can lead to achieving one's goals. Compared to previous studies, the three participants predominantly made use of self-efficacy to increase their chance of surviving the said hazing. These findings have significant implications for the untold stories of fraternity hazing survivors, their driving force to enter such an organization, how they overcame stages to becoming an official member, and how they managed to restore the physical, emotional, and psychological aspects of their health.Bachelor of Science in Psycholog
