The effects of reflective learning to students' engagement and academic performance in Filipino
Full text availableThis quasi-experimental study aimed to investigate the effects of reflective learning to students’ engagement and academic performance in teaching a Filipino course in a private university in Iloilo City. It utilized two intact sections of third year college students taking up Filipino 12 (Sayko-sosyolinggiwstik na Pag-aaral ng Wikang Filipino) during the First Semester of AY 2023-2024. Instruments included a researcher-prepared engagement observation checklist, and a 45-item multiple choice with a 10-point essay test duly validated by experts and reliability tested before the test administration. Frequency distributions, mean, standard deviation, and t-test for independent and paired samples were the statistical tools used. All tests were based on .05 level of significance. Textual interpretation was used in reporting the supporting qualitative data. Findings revealed that the learning engagement and academic performance of students in Filipino 12 who were exposed to the reflective learning method were better than those exposed to the lecture discussion method. It was also found that reflective learning method is an effective tool for enhancing metacognition of students in either the affective or cognitive dimensions which significantly improved their academic performance. Moreover, the study also found that reflective learning method has high potential in improving the quality of instruction in a Filipino course through students’ improved learning engagement and academic performance.Includes bibliographical referencesDoctor of Education major in Curriculum and Instructio
Awareness and challenges of students in accessing the college e-library resources: Basis for library e-literacy training
Abstract onlyThis study used a descriptive, quantitative approach with 300 randomly selected respondents from a total of 1,197 college students. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using frequency count, percentages, mean, t-test, and ANOVA. Majority of the respondents were females, aged 20 and above, third-year students from the College of Nursing, primarily from urban areas, and used smartphones for accessing college e-library resources. Majority of the students are very aware of the existence of the college e-library resources which are internet access, offline databases, e-books, and e-journals that can be downloaded in any format such as Adobe PDF, Microsoft Reader, e-reader, Kindle, etc. Students are not using the 24/7 Library System (Web-OPAC). Instead, they are using Ebsco host Database to access e-books, e-journals, etc. Results showed that students are highly aware of internet connections, networking connectivity, databases, supporting staff, power backup, software, operating systems, and photocopying machines. However, they are moderately aware of printers, scanners, antivirus, and computers. Awareness levels vary based on sex and grade level; but not age, college, geographical location, or technological device. Sex and year level significantly impact awareness of college e-library resources while age, college, and technological device use do not. They are always connected to the university’s internet. Sometimes, they also face challenges in accessing the college e-library resources. They believe that the staff are knowledgeable and skilled, despite encountering challenges which were similar across categories. Based on the results of the study, a library e-literacy training was proposed to increase students' awareness of electronic library resources.Includes bibliographical referencesMaster in Library and Information Scienc
Documenting baye-baye as kakanin in selected town in Iloilo
Full text availableThis study investigated the experiences of Baye-Baye makers and vendors in the different towns in Iloilo, regarding different ingredients, methods and it’s significance in the community. This study specifically aimed to determine the perceptions of different ingredients, methods, and if s significance in making baye-baye as baye-baye makers and vendors in their town. The qualitative research design was adopted, and purposive sampling was used to select 12 respondents who are baye-baye makers and vendors in Santa Barbara, Pavia and Miag-ao with at least 10 years of experience. The study’s instrument was a semi-structured interview in which participants were asked open-ended questions. The study also utilized Focus Group Discussions in delving into their respective answers. The results showed that the most challenging problems the respondents have faced in business are financial and economic challenges, climate change, and personal reasons. Makers/Vendors have been financially challenged to sustain their businesses as prices have increased. Extreme heat made the products spoil easily thus increasing their prices. Furthermore, it is physically demanding because most vendors are elderly and cannot produce as much baye-baye as they used to. Government intervention has also helped these vendors promote their products. Nevertheless the innovation of products, increased government intervention, and production promotion should be strengthened not just for the baye-baye products and also for other kakanins in the long run around the Iloilo province.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Tourism Managemen

Abstract onlyThis study examines how the people living in Barangay Lapaz, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras, are affected socioeconomically by the Taklong Island National Maritime Reserve (TINMAR). Located within Guimaras' abundant biodiversity, TINMAR plays a crucial role as a marine protected area, making a substantial contribution to the preservation of marine biodiversity. The goal of the study is to shed light on the demographic variables specifically, sex, age, level of education, and occupation that shape people's perceptions and experiences with TINMAR. The study, which is scheduled to run from January to December 2023, will use a convenience sample of 339 people, aged between 18 and 56, who were carefully chosen from the entire population for this rigorous quantitative analysis. The study determines the quantitative factors influencing perceived impacts, assesses the statistical significance of different TINMAR impacts, and examines the demographic profile of the respondents through a meticulously created questionnaire created by the researcher. TINMAR is widely regarded, regardless of demographic differences, to have a statistically significant positive impact on social, economic, political, and sustainable development. These strong conclusions are based on quantitative data. The reserve has consistently been well received by residents, as evidenced by the fact that sex, age, education, and occupation do not show statistically significant differences in their perceptions. Given the statistically significant results, it is clear that TINMAR has benefited the community by creating jobs, stimulating the local economy, and increasing environmental awareness.Bachelor of Science in Tourism Managemen
Public hospital financial performance and salary incentive mechanism: An exploratory sequential mixed method design
Journal articleThis study analyzed the relationship between financial performance and salary incentive mechanisms in public hospitals across 30 provinces in China from 2014 to 2018 using an explanatory sequential mixed methods approach. Quantitative research revealed significant changes in medical revenue, net income, and drug cost proportions based on hospital factors such as patient volume, operation rates, and length of stay. These factors also had a major impact on wage components, such as post-salary, scale-salary, and performance subsidies. Qualitative data validated the findings, demonstrating that present incentive structures favor hospitals with high patient traffic and surgery rates, while others confront financial and operational issues. The study emphasizes that in order to increase hospital efficiency and employee happiness, incentive structures must be smart and well-balanced.Central Philippine Universit
Case study of unregistered agritourism farm: Implication to local economy
Full text availableThe rise of interest in connecting with the land, discovering the source of their food, and taking in the attractions of rural environments among the urban and suburban people give the development of agritourism farms. It offers guests the chance to take part in hands-on farming activities like harvesting crops, taking care of animals, and learning about sustainable farming techniques. The town of Alimodian still primarily consists of farmers. Large areas of the town are used for farming and agriculture because the soil is generally fertile. The researcher discovered that two farms, Dong-mer Tillers Trail and Boglosa Vista Farm, are not listed as registered agritourism farms. The purpose of this study is to identify the factors affecting the unregistered agritourism farm. Thus, the study question that the researchers would want to address is “Why some agritourism farms failed to register?". This study uses an interview-based case study methodology as part of a qualitative research design. The study's findings showed that participants were having trouble completing the registration. The costs and the farm's registration procedure are one factor. Therefore, the researchers conclude that there are existing unregistered farms due to the requirements of the municipality that hinder their registration. These requirements not only involve the agencies, but they also have additional requirements as it also depends on the nature of the business. The needed requirements, however, are all necessary, for this is the standard for starting a business. Unregistered businesses are all considered illegal. It also showed that having family support has an impact on their lives since they support each other not just financially but also physically and mentally. Unregistered individuals have the drawback of not being able to receive municipal endorsements.Bachelor of Science in Tourism Managemen
Level of sleep quality and coping among working students in private higher education institution
Abstract onlyThis study entitled "Level of sleep quality and coping among Working students in Private Higher Education Institutions" aimed to determine the level and significant relationship between sleep quality and coping among working students enrolled in Private Higher Education Institutions. Sixty (60) participants were selected through snowball sampling using two (2) standardized test named; Sleep Quality Scale (Yi, Shin, & Shin, 2006, cited in PsychTest database Record, 2022, & Enticare, 2022) and the Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced Inventory (Brief COPE by Carver, 1989, cited NovoPsych, 2021.) In this study, the quantitative approach using a descriptive-correlation research design was utilized. Furthermore, the research design employed a survey questionnaire and used Spearman's Rho as a statistical tool. Findings of this study state that the majority of working students are female, with the poor-income class being the most prevalent socioeconomic status group. This emphasizes that gender and socioeconomic status play significant roles in the demographics of working students. Next, sleep quality among working students is moderately low overall, but varies by gender and socioeconomic status, with males and those in poor-income class reporting higher quality. Another finding is; coping level is moderately high overall, with minor variations by gender and socioeconomic status, and upper middle-income class showing the highest coping mean. Lastly, significant relationship found between sleep quality and coping among working students, rejecting the null hypothesis. The study concluded that, although the general trend among working students at Private Higher Education Institutions indicates moderately low sleep quality, certain subgroups, specifically males and individuals from poor-income backgrounds, experience moderately high sleep quality. Coping was found to be moderately high across all categories of sex and socioeconomic status, suggesting that these students manage stress and challenges reasonably well. Furthermore, a significant correlation between sleep quality and coping was identified. This indicates that better sleep quality may be associated with coping, or conversely, that effective coping could contribute to improved sleep quality. These findings underscore the importance of targeted interventions to improve sleep quality, particularly for females and students from higher socioeconomic backgrounds. Enhancing sleep quality in these groups could potentially lead to better overall coping abilities, contributing to improved well-being and academic performance.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Psycholog
