Proposed two-storey local government services center at Teresa Magbanua Street, Pototan, Iloilo
Abstract onlyThe Local Government Unit (LGU) is responsible for delivering public services, executing local policies, and meeting municipal community requirements. It has a vital function in the advancement, organization, and administration of the city, guaranteeing the welfare of its people. The Municipality of Pototan established a local government center to cater to each municipality's particular needs. However, the services have been restricted by limited workplaces, a lack of standardization, insufficient storage spaces, insufficient room for official gatherings, and a lack of waiting areas to accommodate everyday clients. In order to address these existing problems, the construction of a two-storey local government services center in Teresa Magbanua Street, Pototan, Iloilo, is proposed. This study includes the architectural, structural, electrical, and plumbing plans that have been thoroughly planned according to the Philippines' various standards and codes of practice. In addition, the construction design incorporates green building features such as natural lighting and light-emitting diode (LED) lights. The structure has a floor area of 416.637 square meters. The project has an estimated cost of PHP 15, 564, 726.83 and is estimated to take 280 calendar days to complete. The Office of the Congressman will be responsible for funding the proposed project through its Local Infrastructure Project. It is recommended that safety and security devices, such as closed-circuit television (CCTV) and other necessary security measures, be installed after the structure is completely functional.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Civil Engineerin

Presence of microplastics in tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) along the Iloilo River
Abstract onlyMicroplastic pollution poses a significant threat to aquatic ecosystems, with potential consequences for biodiversity and human health. This study investigates the presence and characteristics of microplastics in tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) inhabiting the Iloilo River, a vital watercourse in the Philippines. Samples were collected from three distinct sites along the river: Barangay Tap-oc, Barangay San Rafael, and Barangay Progreso. A total of 45 tilapia specimens were examined, and microplastics were isolated from the gill and gut tissues using chemical digestion and filtration techniques. The results revealed a high detection rate of microplastics, with 95.6% of the fish specimens containing these contaminants. A total of 132 microplastic particles were identified, with fibrous morphologies being the most prevalent (70.5%), followed by particles (22.7%) and pellets (6.8%). Blue microplastics constituted the dominant color (50.0%), succeeded by red (21.2%) and black (15.9%). Statistical analysis demonstrated significant variations in microplastic abundance across sampling locations, with Barangay Tap-oc exhibiting the highest contamination levels. These findings underscore the pervasive nature of microplastic pollution in the Iloilo River ecosystem and the potential risks it poses to aquatic life and human health.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Environmental Managemen
Bearing the weight: The lived experiences of informal caregivers to adult family members
Abstract onlyThe rising number of adult family members worldwide increases the need for informal caregivers and demands for important health and care services. In the Philippine setting, most Filipino families refuse to acknowledge the role of nursing institutions and professional caregivers due to the collectivist culture that dominates society. Aside from the influence of socioeconomic level on their rejection, Filipinos are family-oriented and have a high regard for adult family members, therefore they consider it a privilege to care for them. Only a few studies about the experiences of informal caregivers were found, this study used a qualitative research design and a descriptive phenomenological method to investigate the lived experiences of informal caregivers in Iloilo City/Province. Six (6) participants were selected using purposive and snowball sampling methods with inclusion criteria used. Using semi-structured interview questions and thematic analysis for analyzing qualitative data, two (2) main themes emerged: (1) The Burden of Caregiver Responsibilities with four (4) sub-themes, (a) Emotional and Physical Strain, (b) Difficulty of the Task, (c) Personal Sacrifice, and (d) Conflict with Family Members. The second main theme was Coping Amidst Challenges and under this main theme were four (4) sub-themes, namely: (a) Managing Burden through Leisure Activities, (b) Navigating the Caregiving Journey Through Resilience, (c) Sympathizing in the Face of Difficulties, and (d) Family Support System and Care Assistance. These themes have given us awareness of the difficulties among informal caregivers.Bachelor of Science in Psycholog
Antibacterial property of lemon (Citrus limon) essential oil against Staphylococcus aureus in Philippine native chicken
Abstract onlyStaphylococcus aureus is a gram-positive bacterium that can cause dermatitis, arthritis, osteomyelitis, synovitis, tenosynovitis, femoral head necrosis, and omphalitis in poultry animals. It is the most common cause of bumblefoot in chickens. Lemon is rich in substances such as flavonoids and phenolic acids that are responsible for inhibiting bacterial growth. The study was conducted to assess the minimum inhibitory concentration and zone of inhibition; and evaluation of the concentration of Lemon oil according to potency. This research involved a total of 30 Petri plates, 100pl Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, 500pl tylosin at higher dose, 250pl tylosin at lower dose, 500pl VCO, 500pl distilled water. The concentrations were laid out using a complete randomized design (CRD) and two-factor (CRD). The LEO assessed through MIC after 24 hours of post-exposure revealed that 100% LEO concentration has the highest mean percentage (77.50%). In addition, treatments 85% to 100% LEO concentration had a wider ZOI. Furthermore, the results show that the antibacterial potency of Lemon (Citrus limon) against Staphylococcus aureus is 73.27%, which means that the antibacterial property of LEO is potent, based on standard potency of 60 to 150 percent. Thus, LEO can act as an alternative in controlling Staphylococcus aureus isolated from Philippine Native Chicken.Includes bibliographical referencesBachelor of Science in Agricultur
