This study investigates the use of code-switching by English teachers at SMP N 1 Kubung during the 2023/2024 academic year. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, the research focused on two English teachers as subjects. Data collection involved observation and interviews, with video recordings used to capture classroom interactions. The interview instrument comprised nine questions exploring factors influencing teachers' code-switching practices in English instruction.The study identified 83 instances of code-switching, with a detailed analysis of 40 representative cases. Findings revealed that code-switching serves as a valuable tool for enhancing understanding and facilitating the teaching process at SMP N 1 Kubung. Teachers utilize code-switching to adapt to classroom needs and ensure effective communication of course material. This research contributes to the understanding of code-switching in English language teaching contexts, offering insights into its practical applications and potential benefits for both teachers and students in Indonesian secondary education settings
KEPRIBADIAN TOKOH PEREMPUAN DALAM NOVEL PERAHU KERTAS KARYA DEWI LESTARI DAN SI PARASIT LAJANG KARYA AYU UTAMI SUATU KAJIAN INTERTEKSTUAL
This research aims to: (1) describe the personality of the character Kugy in the novel Perahu Kertas by Dewi Lestari, (2) describe the personality of the character Saya in the novel Si Parasit Lajang by Ayu Utami, (3) describe the intertextual relationship between the personality of the character Kugy in the novel Perahu Kertas by Dewi Lestari and I am in the novel Si Parasite Single by Ayu Utami. This type of research is qualitative research using descriptive analysis methods. The data in this research is in the form of sentences and dialogue contained in the novel. The steps taken are (1) data comparison, (2) categorization, (3) presenting data with tabulation and description, and (4) interpreting to draw conclusions, and (5) reporting research results. Based on data analysis and discussion of the personality of the character Kugy in the novel Perahu Kertas by Dewi Lestari, findings were obtained based on the nine personality types of Baron and Elizabeth's theory, that the figure of Kugy is a romantic personality. Furthermore, the personality of the female character Saya in the novel Si Perasit Lajang by Ayu Utami is that the character Saya has an observer personality. Viewed from various aspects, the novels Perahu Kertas and Si Parasit Lajang in intertextual studies are character transformations, themes of love and friendship, as well as the influence of popular culture.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) mendeskripsikan kepribadian tokoh Kugy novel Perahu Kertas karya Dewi Lestari, (2) mendeskripsikan kepribadian tokoh Saya novel Si Parasit Lajang karya Ayu Utami, (3) mendeskripsikan hubungan intertekstual kepribadian tokoh Kugy novel Perahu Kertas karya Dewi Lestari dan Saya pada novel Si Parasit Lajang karya Ayu Utami. Jenis Penelitian ini adalah penelitian yang bersifat kualitatif menggunakan metode deskriptif analisis. Data dalam penelitian ini adalah berupa kata-kata kalimat dan dialog yang terdapat dalam novel. Langkah-langkah yang dilakukan adalah (1) perbandingan data, (2) kategorisasi, (3) penyajian data dengan tabulasi dan deskripsi, dan (4) menafsirkan untuk menarik kesimpulan, dan (5) melaporkan hasil penelitian. Berdasarkan analisis data dan pembahasan tentang kepribadian tokoh Kugy dalam novel Perahu Kertas karya Dewi Lestari diperoleh temuan berdasarkan sembilan tipe kepribadian teori Baron dan Elizabeth, bahwa sosok Kugy adalah berkepribadian romantis. Selanjutnya, kepribadian tokoh perempuan tokoh Saya dalam novel Si Perasit Lajang karya Ayu Utami bahwa tokoh Saya adalah berkpribadian pengamat. Dilihat dari berbagai aspek, novel Perahu Kertas dan Si Parasit Lajang dalam kajian intertekstual adalah transformasi karakter, tema cinta dan persahabatan, serta pengaruh budaya populer.
 
KEMAMPUAN MENULIS TEKS PROSEDUR DALAM KEGIATAN PEMBELAJARAN PROJEK PENGUATAN PROFIL PELAJAR PANCASILA (P5) SISWA KELAS VII SMPN 4 KUBUNG KABUPATEN SOLOK
This research was motivated by students' ability to write procedural texts in learning activities (P5). Based on the results of observations and interviews that researchers found, in the P5 learning activity report there are procedures or procedures for working on a project. Therefore, researchers found a connection between learning Indonesian, namely procedural texts in making reports from P5 activities. This type of research is quantitative using descriptive research methods. This research data was obtained from the results of student performance. The data collection techniques in this research are: (1) the researcher explains writing procedural texts based on their structure and linguistic characteristics to students. (2) the researcher provides examples of correct procedural texts according to their structure and linguistic characteristics. (3) the researcher gives students the opportunity to ask questions about the procedure text that will be written. (4) the researcher instructed the students to write procedure texts according to what had been practiced in the P5 local wisdom activity "making batik" (5) the researcher collected the students' procedure texts that had been written. Based on the research results, it was found that the ability to write procedure texts in P5 learning according to the procedure text structure was 93.35 with very good qualifications and linguistic rules were 83.9 with good qualifications. Based on the research results described in chapter IV, the ability to write procedural texts in learning activities (P5), class VII students at SMPN 4 Kubung, Solok Regency obtained an average of 88.67 with excellent qualifications.Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kemampuan menulis teks prosedur siswa dalam kegiatan pembelajaran (P5). Berdasarkan hasil observasi dan wawancara yang peneliti temukan, dalam laporan kegiatan pembelajaran P5 terdapat prosedur atau tatacara dalam pengerjaan suatu projek. Oleh karena itu peneliti menemukan keterkaitan pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia yaitu teks prosedur dalam pembuatan laporan dari kegiatan P5 ini. Jenis penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif dengan menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif. Data penelitian ini diperoleh dari hasil unjuk kerja siswa. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini adalah: (1) peneliti menjelaskan mengenai penulisan teks prosedur berdasarkan struktur dan ciri kebahasaannya kepada siswa. (2) peneliti memberikan contoh teks prosedur yang benar sesuai dengan struktur dan ciri kebahasaannya. (3) peneliti memberikan kesempatan siswa untuk bertanya mengenai teks prosedur yang akan dituliskan. (4) peneliti mengintruksikan kepada siswa untuk menuliskan teks prosedur sesuai dengan yang telah dipraktekkan pada kegiatan P5 kearifan lokal “membatik” (5) peneliti mengumpulkan teks prosedur siswa yang telah selesai dituliskan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diperoleh kemampuan menulis teks prosedur dalam pembelajaran P5 sesuai struktur teks prosedur adalah 93,35 dengan kualifikasi baik sekali serta kaidah kebahasaan 83,9 dengan kualifikasi baik. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang diuraikan dalam bab IV kemampuan menulis teks prosedur dalam kegiatan pembelajaran (P5) siswa kelas VII SMPN 4 Kubung Kabupaten Solok memperoleh rata-rata 88,67 dengan kualifikasi baik sekali
THE CORRELATION BETWEEN EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION AND STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IN STUDYING ENGLISH
This study aimed to investigate the correlation between extrinsic motivation and academic achievement among first-year students studying English at MAS TI Kumpulan during the 2021/2022 academic year. This study revealed several issues affecting students’ motivation in learning English. Specifically, many students lacked interest in studying English, experienced a lack of motivation from teachers, but received a reward at the end of the semester for the highest score. Additionally, a significant number of students failed to complete homework due to inadequate parental support. Furthermore, students found English to be a challenging subject because of a lack of peer support. The study comprised 65 students, with a sample size of 24, selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and documentation. The coefficient of correlation was determined to be -0.114, indicating no significant relationship between extrinsic motivation and academic achievement in English studies among the students. In other words, according to hypothesis testing, the t-score was -0.114 while the t-table was 0.432. This indicates that the t-score was lower than the t-table. As a result, Ha was rejected and Ho was accepted, indicating that there was no significant correlation between students' extrinsic motivation and their academic achievement in the study of English
THE FORM AND FUNCTION OF SLANG EXPRESSIONS ON THE THREAD SOCIAL MEDIA (@MedanTalkViral)
This research examined the dynamic evolution of slang in the context of Medan, exploring its formation, diverse expressions, and functions in everyday interactions. It focused on the comment section of the @Medantalkviral account on the Thread platform. The study employed Yanchung and Yanhong (2013) elaboration theory, supported by Fisherman (1972), to understand the meanings of slang expressions. The approach examined how these expressions were articulated in texts, whether fully or partially, in order to gain a nuanced understanding. Using observation and recording techniques, including screenshots, the data consisted of words and comments from Medan residents via the social media account @Medantalkviral. The analysis employed analogy and intralingual methods, revealing 12 newly invented slang expressions on social media. The results showed a variety of slang forms, including words, phrases, clauses, and sentences, with identified linguistic functions such as identity, kinship/politeness, emotional expression, directive function, and referential function. This study contributed to a broader understanding of linguistic phenomena in the digital age and the multifaceted nature of slang in social interactions
Efek permainan monopoli terhadap penguasaan kosakata penelitian eksperimen pada kelas 7 di SMPN 2 Paninjauan
The research addressed the problem of inadequate vocabulary mastery among seventh-grade students at SMPN 2 Paninjauan during the 2022/2023 academic year. The monotonous media such as using a dictionary was attributed to factors such as rote memorization and the lack of diverse instructional media. Therefore, monopoly games were selected as a teaching medium to investigate their impact on students' vocabulary mastery. The research employed a quasi-experimental design, and the population comprised 45 seventh-grade students at SMPN 2 Paninjauan for the 2022/2023 academic year. Cluster random sampling was utilized to select a sample of 30 students, with 15 assigned to the experimental group and 15 to the control group. The experimental and control groups were determined through a random draw. The pre-test score averaged 47.33, but it significantly increased to 85 after the intervention. Analysis using an independent samples T-test indicated that monopoly games had a more substantial impact compared to dictionary. The rejection of the null hypothesis (H0) suggested a significant positive effect of using monopoly games as a teaching medium on students' vocabulary mastery in the seventh grade at SMPN 2 Paninjauan for the 2022/2023 academic year. Based on the findings, it is recommended that teachers consider this research when exploring a broader range of teaching media to enhance student engagement in vocabulary learning
Kevalidan Pengembangan Buku Saku Berbasis Konstruktivisme Pada Materi Sistem Persamaan Linear Dua Variabel Kelas VIII SMP Negeri 3 Kota Solok
The purpose of this research is to produce a valid constructivism-based pocket book on the material of the system of linear equations of two variables. This type of research is development research that uses the ADDIE development model consisting of 5 stages, namely Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation. Furthermore, data collection uses an assessment instrument in the form of a questionnaire which is validated by 4 validators before being tested. The instruments used are questionnaires for material experts, media experts, and linguists. Based on data analysis, the questionnaire validation of material experts was 88.65%, media experts 77.50% and linguists 88.00%. From the results of the study it can be concluded that the pocket book developed is valid
PENGAMBIL KEPUTUSAN DALAM KELAS BAHASA INGGRIS SEBAGAI BAHASA ASING: STUDI KASUS MENGENAI PERAN GURU YANG TERSEMBUNYI
In the EFL classroom, teachers have some roles that directly influence students’ achievement. One of the main roles is being a decision-maker during teaching and learning processes, which including planning, implementing and evaluation. During the implementation of Independence curriculum, as the newest curriculum, the teachers are positioned as one of the important factors in succeeding the curriculum by actively doing their role as a decision maker. Thus, the decisions taken by English teachers might influence the teaching and learning processes. This article aims to discuss how English teachers play their role as decision-makers in conducting English subjects at school, specifically on deciding learning goals, teaching materials, teaching activity and learning evaluation. This research, which is derived and further developed based on previous research conducted in 2013, was conducted at one of the Public Islamic Senior High Schools in Solok City, West Sumatera, Indonesia. Furthermore, this research involved 5 English teachers. The research was conducted under a qualitative approach by using a phenomenology design. The result of the research shows that most English teachers did not actively decide their teaching and learning process, especially on learning evaluation. It was caused by a lack of understanding about the importance of decisions made by the teachers; the decisions they made may influence the whole process of teaching English. Besides, it is also influenced by an external factor, such as the government’s rule. Meanwhile, the research also found that the role of a decisions maker can either influence or even is influenced by the other roles of English teacher. The result of the research show a current need for the teachers to get trainings that may help them to enhance their performance as a decision maker in the classroom. 
THE COMPARISON OF STUDENT INTEREST AND LEARNING OUTCOMES USING DIFFERENTIATED LEARNING IN CONTENT AND PROCESS
The goal of this study is to compare students' interests and learning outcomes when using content and process differentiated learning. To determine the difference, experimental study utilizing a factorial design was used. The purposive samples for this study were students in grades XI F2 and XI F4 who picked English as an elective subject. XI F2 was taught using differentiated learning in process, whereas XI F4 was taught using differentiated learning in content. A questionnaire was utilized to collect data on learning interests, and the data were analyzed using average calculations. Learning outcomes were analyzed using one-way ANOVA. Questionnaires and students' first and second semester learning outcome ratings were utilized as the research instrument for the study. The finding of this study is that there is no significant difference of students’ interest and learning outcomes using differentiated content and process. The result highlights that differentiated instruction has a powerful method for enhancing student interest and learning outcomes.Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk membandingkan minat dan hasil belajar siswa ketika menggunakan pembelajaran yang berdiferensiasi konten dan proses. Untuk mengetahui perbedaannya, studi eksperimen dengan menggunakan desain faktorial digunakan. Sampel purposif untuk penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI F2 dan XI F4 yang memilih bahasa Inggris sebagai mata pelajaran pilihan. Kelas XI F2 diajar dengan menggunakan pembelajaran berdiferensiasi proses, sedangkan kelas XI F4 diajar dengan menggunakan pembelajaran berdiferensiasi konten. Kuesioner digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data tentang minat belajar, dan data dianalisis menggunakan perhitungan rata-rata. Hasil belajar dianalisis menggunakan ANOVA satu arah. Kuesioner dan penilaian hasil belajar semester pertama dan kedua siswa digunakan sebagai instrumen penelitian ini. Temuan dari penelitian ini adalah bahwa tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara minat dan hasil belajar siswa yang menggunakan pembelajaran diferensiasi konten dan proses. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pengajaran berdiferensiasi merupakan metode yang ampuh untuk meningkatkan minat dan hasil belajar siswa
Pengaruh Model Pembelajaran REACT Terhadap Kemampuan Pemecahan Masalah Peserta Didik Kelas XII MIPA SMA N 6 Padang
The formulation of the problem in this study is whether there is an effect of the REACT learning model on the mathematical problem solving skills of XII MIPA class students of SMA N 6 Padang. The research method used is Quasi Experimental Design. The population is students of class XII MIPA SMA N 6 Padang and as a sample is class XII MIPA 1 as an experimental class and class XII MIPA 2 as a control class, both classes were randomly selected. Data collection was done by test technique. Then the collected data were analyzed using the t-test, based on the results of the t-test analysis with a significance level of ???? = 0.05, obtained > (2.141> 1.994), so it can be concluded that there is an effect of the REACT learning model on the mathematical problem solving skills of students in class XII MIPA SMA N 6 Padang
