    THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LEARNER AUTONOMY AND MOTIVATION IN EFL SPEAKING CLASS

          Despite continuous effort to establish an engaging learning environment, there is a lack of motivation among EFL learners in speaking class. Understanding the relationship between autonomy and motivation might provide insights into effective methods of instruction in EFL speaking classes when learners need to strengthen their speaking skills. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between learner autonomy and motivation in higher education, particularly in EFL speaking classes. The research method employed in this correlational study was a questionnaire to assess learner autonomy and motivation. The data were analyzed quantitatively using Pearson product moment and linear regression. The findings indicate a positive correlation between learner autonomy and motivation in EFL speaking classes (r-value = .835; Sig. (2-tailed) .000 < .05). Specifically, learners’ control of cognitive process, independent use of learning resources, learner's control of affective process, and autonomous use of learning skill were significantly correlated with motivation in EFL speaking (r = .731, Sig .001; r = .841, Sig .000; r = .855, Sig .000; r = .753, Sig .000, n=17; Sig .05). Although independent use of technology was not significantly correlated, it had a positive and low correlation towards motivation in EFL speaking (r = .358, Sig .158, n = 17, Sig .05). The five aspects of learner autonomy simultaneously had a strong significant effect on motivation (R2 = .798, p < .001). The findings suggest that educators can design instruction that promote learner autonomy and increase motivation in EFL speaking classes

    THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS’ CRITICAL THINKING SKILL AND THEIR SPEAKING ABILITY AT STKIP ABDI PENDIDIKAN PAYAKUMBUH

           The success of speaking ability is influenced by various factors, and one of them is students' critical thinking. The application and improvement of students' critical thinking skills in learning English are considered important. This study aims to examine the correlation between students' critical thinking skills and their speaking ability. The researcher employed a quantitative approach using the correlation method. The sample consisted of students from STKIP Abdi Pendidikan Payakumbuh enrolled in the academic years 2017, 2018, and 2019. Questionnaires were distributed to 25 students to assess their critical thinking skills, while a speaking test was used to evaluate their speaking ability. The collected data were subjected to a normality test, revealing that the critical thinking skills data were normally distributed, whereas the speaking ability data were not. Data analysis was conducted using the Spearman-rho test in SPSS 2016. The obtained results showed that the significance value was 0.536 (> 0.05), and the coefficient score was 0.133 (< 0.2). Therefore, this study found no significant correlation between students' critical thinking skills and their speaking ability. Consequently, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is rejected, while the null hypothesis (Ho) is accepted. Based on the result, it was not relation for English students departtment of STKIP Abdi Pendidikan to enhance their speaking abilty with critical thinking, but the students realize that one of  factors of speaking is critical thinking

    DESIGNING SPBU (SPEAKING BUSINESS) BASED ON ANDROID APPLICATION FOR SHARIA ECONOMIC STUDENTS

              The aim of this research was to develop a learning media based on an Android application, which is believed to enable students to learn independently and enhance their communication skills for Sharia Economic students. The researcher employed the Research and Development (R&D) methodology to create the product. To complete the development of this product, the researcher adopted steps introduced by Maribe Branch known as the ADDIE model, which includes analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation.The target population for this research comprised third-semester students majoring in Sharia Economics at Universitas KH. A. Wahab Hasbullah Jombang, with a total of 12 students. Data collection for this research involved interviews and questionnaires. The results showed that the media expert data indicated 89%, demonstrating that the application was suitable to be used as an interesting and interactive English learning tool. The data from the material expert indicated 96%, confirming that the application was suitable for use in the learning process. During the implementation process, a score of 75% was achieved, indicating that the application helped students become more active and interested in class, enabling them to speak English more fluently during their learning process. In the final evaluation, it was found that this media was proven to be suitable for improving students' speaking skills in the specific subject of English for Sharia Economics

    Peningkatan Keaktifan Belajar Matematika Siswa Melalui Pendekatan MIKIR Dengan Menggunakan Desain Pembelajaran

    This research is a Classroom Action Research (PTK) which aims to increase the activeness of learning mathematics in grade 9.1 students through the thinking Approach using Learning Design. The subjects in this study were 27 students of class 9.1 MTsN 5 Religion. Data collection techniques in this research include observation and documentation. The MIKIR approach using Learning Design is carried out in 3 cycles consisting of the planning stage, the implementation stage, the observation stage and the reflection stage. The results of the research in the first cycle showed that the activeness of students was 70 in the active category. In cycle II the activity of students increased to 80 in the active category. In cycle III the student activity increased even more with a score of 90 in the very active category. These results indicate that there is an increase in student learning activeness through the MIKIR approach using Learning Design, so it can be concluded that the MIKIR Approach using Learning Design can increase students' mathematics learning activity

    Pengembangan Lembar Kerja Peserta Didik Berbasis Discovery Learning Materi Bentuk Aljabar Kelas VII SMP Negeri 5 Kota Solok

    The background of this research is because the learning media used in schools only textbooks that are lent to students. This research aims to produce Students' Worksheets based on Discovery Learning material in the form of Algebra. The type of this research is research and development which use the ADDIE (Analysis Design Development Implementation Evaluation) development model. This research was carried out to the validity stage using validation from experts in their respective fields. Data collection was carried out by three validators who are experts in their fields. The instruments used were material questionnaire experts, media experts, and linguists. Based on the data analysis, it was found that the validation of the material expert questionnaire was 93.13%, media experts were 87.92%, and linguists were 89.64%. The total validity value obtained was 90.23% which is valid. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that the Discovery Learning-based Student Worksheets developed are valid

    PENGARUH MODEL QUANTUM LEARNING TERHADAP MENELAAH TEKS ULASAN SISWA KELAS VIII MTsN KOTA SOLOK SEMESTER II TAHUN PELAJARAN 2022/2023

    This research aims to describe the influence of the Quantum Learning model on reviewing review texts for class VIII MTsN Solok City students for the 2022/2023 academic year. This research was conducted at MTsN Solok City in class VIII semester II in February 2023. This type of research is quantitative using experimental methods. Research data was obtained through performance tests. The sample in the study consisted of 58 students who were divided into 2 classes, namely the experimental class and the control class. The experimental class uses the Quantum Learning model, the control class does not use the Quantum Learning model. The results of this research with an average score for reviewing review texts in the control class of 72.6 are more than adequate. The average score in the experimental class is 84.7 with good qualifications. To determine whether or not there is an influence of the Quantum Learning model, a prerequisite test for data normality using the Lilliefors test is carried out, and a homogeneity test using the F test. Followed by hypothesis testing using the t test with the condition that sig < 0.05. The results of this test show that there is an influence of the Quantum Learning model on reviewing students' review texts because in the t test table the value obtained is tcount = 14.83 > ttable = 2.763. So H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that there is an influence of the Quantum Learning model on reviewing review texts for class VIII students in the second semester of MTsN Solok City for the 2022/2023 academic year.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pengaruh model Quantum Learning terhadap menelaah teks ulasan siswa kelas VIII MTsN Kota Solok tahun pelajaran 2022/2023. Penelitian ini dilakukan di MTsN Kota Solok pada kelas VIII semester II pada bulan Februari 2023. Jenis penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif dengan menggunakan metode eksperimen. Data penelitian diperoleh melalui tes unjuk kerja. Sampel dalam penelitian berjumlah 58 siswa yang terbagi menjadi 2 kelas yaitu kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Kelas eksperimen menggunakan model Quantum Learning, kelas kontrol tanpa menggunakan model Quantum Learning. Hasil penelitian ini dengan nilai rata-rata menelaah teks ulasan pada kelas kontrol 72,6 berada pada kualifikasi lebih dari cukup. Nilai rata-rata pada kelas eksperimen 84,7 dengan kualifikasi baik. Untuk mengetahui ada atau tidaknya pengaruh model Quantum Learning dilakukan pengujian prasyarat uji normalitas data menggunakan uji Lilliefors, dan uji homogenitas menggunakan uji F. Dilanjutkan dengan uji hipotesis menggunakan uji t dengan ketentuan sig < 0,05. Hasil pengujian ini menunjukkan terdapat pengaruh model Quantum Learning terhadap menelaah teks ulasan siswa karena pada tabel uji t diperoleh nilai thitung = 14,83 > ttabel = 2,763. Maka H0 ditolak dan Ha diterima. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa adanya pengaruh model Quantum Learning terhadap menelaah teks ulasan siswa kelas VIII semester II MTsN Kota Solok tahun pelajaran 2022/2023

    PROMOTING EFL STUDENTS ENTREPRENEURSHIP ENTHUSIASM: USING PROJECT-BASED LEARNING IN EXTENSIVE READING ACTIVITIES

            This article discusses how Extensive Reading (ER) activities promote English as a Foreign Language (EFL) college students’ entrepreneurship enthusiasm by giving the chance to the individual student to select the topic to be read based on the most interesting one in his/her life. As ER is defined as pleasure reading, most of the previous research reports promoting ER activities for EFL students deal mostly with reading literary texts. For EFL college students, however, ER should not focus on reading literary texts, but also on the academic and popular ones. They need to be able to read a wide range of academic and popular texts for school task demands and for their prospective work purpose. They should be encouraged to read other types of texts other than literary one—which can improve their entrepreneurship enthusiasm. The method used in this study is classroom action research by implementing Project Based Learning (PBL) in two cycles. The results of this study showed that in the first cycle the students were able to read everything about the most interesting thing in their life guided by the mind map usage, made papers of reading reports based on both printed and digital resources, made the slides of oral report contained project plan of entrepreneurship products or services. In the second cycle the students were able to complete the project in form of portfolio contained the complete plan of entrepreneurship products and/or services. It is concluded that the implementing of PBL can promote EFL students’ entrepreneurship enthusiasm.&nbsp

    Pengaruh Pembelajaran Daring Terhadap Hasil Belajar Matematika Peserta Didik Kelas VII SMP Negeri 2 Kota Solok

    The study aimed to determine the effect of online learning and interest in learning on the learning outcomes of Mathematics in class VII students of SMP Negeri 2 Kota Solok. This type of research is quantitative research with a population of class VII students at SMP Negeri 2 Kota Solok consisting of 11 classes. The sampling technique was simple random sampling, to obtain a sample of 79 Class VII students of SMP Negeri 2 Kota Solok. Online learning data is obtained through a questionnaire while learning outcomes are obtained from the results of the Mid Semester Assessment (PTS). The effect of online learning on learning outcomes using Simple Linear Regression is obtained by the equation Y= 53,60 + 0,26X. The results of the analysis obtained the value tcount=0,78<t-table=1,99. So is accepted because there is no significant effect of online learning on learning outcomes. The conclusion from this study is that there is no significant effect of online learning on the learning outcomes of class VII students of SMP Negeri 2 Kota Solok

    The research entitled "Variations of the Minang Language Dialect (Paisia) in Class X Students of SMA Negeri 3 Painan, Pesisir Selatan Regency" has a background of the condition of SMA Negeri 3 Painan as a boarding school. Where students in this school are a mixture of students from all regions in Pesisir Selatan Regency. In Pesisir Selatan District itself there are several dialect differences between the North and South parts. After students have joined the hostel there are several dialects that appear in conversations and often cause confusion among students. The purpose of this study was to look at the differences in the Minang language dialect of students from the North Coast and the South Coast. The type of research used is qualitative research with descriptive methods. The method used in this research is interview with note-taking technique. The results of this study obtained several differences from the northern and southern dialects of the pasisia. This difference is seen from the lexical aspect, for example the words biaso (North) and beso (South). This dialect difference did not have an effect on student communication in the dormitory, instead it became an additional Minang language vocabulary for students.Penelitian yang berjudul “Variasi Dialek Bahasa Minang (Paisia) Pada Siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 3 Painan Kabupaten Pesisir Selatan” dilatarbelakangi oleh kondisi SMA Negeri 3 Painan sabagai sekolah berasrama. Dimana siswa di sekolah ini merupakan campuran siswa dari seluruh daerah yang ada di Kabupaten Pesisir Selatan. Di Kabupaten Pesisir Selatan sendiri terdapat beberapa perbedaan dialek antara bagian Utara dan Selatan. Setelah siswa tergabung di asrama ada beberapa dialek yang muncul dalam percakapan dan sering menimbulkan kebingungan di antara siswa. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat perbedaan dialek bahasa Minang siswa dari Pesisir bagian Utara dengan Pesisir bagian Selatan. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah wawancara dengan teknik simak catat. Hasil penelitian ini diperoleh beberapa perbedaan dari dialek pasisia bagian utara dengan bagian selatan. Perbedaan ini dilihat dari aspek leksikal misalnya kata biaso (Utara) dan beso (Selatan). Perbedaan dialek ini tidak memberi pengaruh dalam komunikasi siswa di asrama malah menjadi tambahan kosa kata Bahasa Minang bagi siswa

    GOOGLE FORM APPLICATION EFFECT ON STUDENTS’ BASIC ENGLISH GRAMMAR MASTERY

          This research aimed to analyze the significance effect of Google Forms application toward students’ English grammar achievement and mastery. This application was used as one of the media to assess and evaluate students’ learning achievement. The design of this research was quasi-experimental research. According to the findings, the mean score of the experiment class taught by using Google Forms application was 82,5, while the mean score of the control class taught without using the Google Forms application was 68,2. Based on the mean score of both groups, it can be concluded that students in the experiment class scored higher than students in the control class, results showed that the experimental group could perform better than the control group. It has also been demonstrated that there is a significant effect on the grammar mastery of students who were taught and assessed using the Google Forms application. &nbsp
