Friendship, love, and family: comments on sex, love, and Gender by Helga Varden
Full text linkAs I reread and reflected on Sex, Love, and Gender, I found myself asking what the
bar for success for the goals of the book is, at least insofar as these goals concern its non-Kantian audience (I know there are a rich array of contributions to the inside-baseball of
Kant scholarship here that just go well over my head). Where does this leave those of us whowork on sex, love, and gender within feminist, anti-oppressive, and inclusive traditions, inour relationship to Kant? Asking this question highlights the subtlety and significance of whatVarden accomplishes. She is not aiming at anything so heavy-handed as conversion, I think (orat least, I hope not), but rather, at opening up new kinds of conversation. I will no longer helpmyself to straw-Kantians in discussions of the emotional, relational, and physical dimensionsof our personhood, and that I must move Kant from target to unlikely ally in some of thetopics I take closest to heart. I still think that the strength of Kantian theory (its complex andcomprehensive systematicity) is also very much its weakness (it often feels possible and easierjust to get from A to B without all this machinery, when discussing – for example, the value ofphysical love, the importance of respect, or the significance of abortion rights) but I now findmyself to compelled to double check that I am not missing something, when I skip past it.
Thank you to Helga for such a provocative, thoughtful, brilliant and personal book. Iam grateful for having had the opportunity to read it, and a bit surprised to realize how muchI will bring Kant into future conversations on these topics.Helga Varden’s Sex, Love, and Gender: A Kantian Theory is a sweeping and systematic tour de force – an account of our sexual and gendered human nature, grounded in Kantian theory, that is courageously comprehensive in scope, carefully rigorous in its attention to the details of Kantian philosophy, and refreshingly forthright in its author’s unwillingness to be limited by Kant’s own failings. As a contemporary argument for the value and relevance of Kant on Sex, it is overwhelmingly successful. Nevertheless, in this response, I raise three topics on which I remain unconvinced by Varden’s reconstructed Kant: namely, the duty of truthfulness in the context of sexual identity, the absence of family in her account (and his), and the implications of speech that harms
TÊNIS DE MESA PARALÍMPICO: TRAJETÓRIA DE UM CAMPEÃO MUNDIAL
Full text linkThe objective of this study was to understand the sporting trajectory of Roraimense, table tennis parathlete, Reginaldo Oliveira. For data collection, a semi-structured interview was used, which was applied with this parathete. Data were analyzed using the content analysis technique. The results showed the rapid rise of the participant in the scenario of national and international competitions in the table tennis modality. However, although the parathlete won a world title in the modality in 2001, he faced difficulties to remain in the modality in the context of Roraima. The results reveal the lack of initiatives aimed at Paralympic sport in the state of Roraima and suggest the need for attention to this field of sport.

Accepted: 2023/03/27O objetivo deste estudo foi compreender a trajetória esportiva do roraimense, paratleta do Tênis de Mesa, Reginaldo Oliveira. Para a coleta de dados, utilizou-se uma entrevista semiestruturada, a qual foi aplicada com o paratleta. Os dados foram analisados por meio da técnica de análise de conteúdo. Os resultados evidenciaram a rápida ascensão do participante no cenário das competições de nível nacional e internacional na modalidade do tênis de mesa. Todavia, embora o paratleta tenha conquistado um título mundial da modalidade no ano de 2001, enfrentou dificuldades para a permanência na modalidade no contexto de Roraima. Os resultados revelam a carência de iniciativas voltadas ao esporte paralímpico no estado de Roraima e sugerem a necessidade de atenção a esse campo do esporte.

KANT E A JUSTIÇA SOCIAL
Full text linkO objetivo deste artigo é refletir sobre a temática da justiça social no pensamento moral e político de Kant, considerando a necessidade de compreender o papel social do Estado na manutenção da sociedade. Para isso, efetua-se uma análise dividida em três partes, na qual se avaliará, num primeiro momento, a justiça social como gênese de um eventual estado de bem estar social no pensamento kantiano; num segundo momento, o papel da moralidade kantiana como fundamento do dever ético de ajuda ao próximo pela premissa da dignidade humana e, por fim, a função da ação política na implementação de um modelo de governo que garanta a subsistência de todos sob a execução da justiça social
"A IDADE HERMENÊUTICA DA RAZÃO" DE JEAN GREISCH
Full text linkJean Greisch3 (1942-), ainda pouco conhecido no Brasil, é um filósofo e professor luxemburguês. Realizou seus estudos em filosofia e teologia em seu próprio país, completando-os com um doutorado em filosofia, no Instituto Católico de Paris, onde defendeu sua tese sobre Martin Heidegger. Suas principais pesquisas estão relacionadas com as problemáticas contemporâneas da ontologia, da hermenêutica e da religião. Em A idade hermenêutica da razão, instigado em como a hermenêutica se inseriu no coração da filosofia ao ponto de hoje tratarmos como corrente filosófica o que, antes, era uma disciplina auxiliar, Greisch analisa três sentidos possíveis da expressão razão hermenêutica: (i) o sentido descritivo, onde é realizada uma investigação histórica; (ii) o sentido crítico, onde se analisa os debates que envolve tal expressão; (iii) o sentido heurístico, onde ele questiona o quanto esta expressão implica ou não em uma ideia própria de razão
