The EU Directive 2014/95/EU created the basis for mandatory non-financial reporting, which is intended to contribute to the sustainable development of society. In Austria, this directive was implemented through the Sustainability and Diversity Improvement Act (NaDiVeG) and with the non-financial reports of the 2019 financial year, the man-datory reporting enters its third season. In the previous seasons, it became apparent that very little transparency in reporting prevailed, especially with regard to human rights concerns, and thus one of the goals of bringing about a change in behaviour through transparent reporting does not seem to be achievable. This paper aims to analyse and present the non-financial reporting on human rights issues of Austrian companies in the financial year 2019. Furthermore, it addresses the question of how the quality of reporting can be improved in the future in order to con-tribute to the promotion of respect for human rights. In order to answer these questions, an analysis of the non-financial reporting on human rights issues of the companies of the Prime Segment of the Vienna Stock Exchange, which are obliged to report accord-ing to the NaDiVeG, was carried out. In a further step, interviews were conducted with selected sustainability managers responsible for reporting in order to find out how hu-man rights reporting is carried out and to find out which criteria are decisive for the quality of reporting and how reporting can be improved in the future. It was found that low transparency on human rights concerns still prevails in non-finan-cial reporting of the third season. The reporting rates and the reporting quality on the different human rights issues differ significantly from each other. Furthermore, the anal-ysis showed that there are also significant differences in the reporting on human rights issues of the individual sectors to which the companies belong. The interviews with the sustainability managers revealed that they do not consider the legal framework to be sufficiently well-defined to provide orientation for their reporting. The supply chain was identified as one of the most important topics in relation to respect for human rights, which could become more important with the forthcoming supply chain law. It remains to be seen whether a change in the legal framework will lead to increased transparency in reporting on human rights issues.Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien, Masterarb., 202

We are increasingly surrounded by changes that affect our daily lifestyles. One of these changes certainly refers to the utilization and disposal of money, which is still the main measure of value. These changes are aimed primarily at the implementation of digital technologies in this area. In this way, many questions that are opened are very important, and relate to positive and potentially negative effects of these transformations. In this context, the topic related to the use of money in the future through the process of digital transformations certainly requires adequate processing and analysis, which is one of the main points of this paper.

Knowledge workers spend the majority of their working hours sitting in front of a computer. The negative repercussions of prolonged sitting on health are well known: Sitting for too long causes low calorie consumption; the metabolism and the cardiovascular system slow down significantly. This increases the risk of obesity, diabetes, prolapsed discs, and cardiovascular diseases. The consequences of prolonged sitting are not only felt by the employees themselves, but also by their employers: employees with diminished physical and mental well-being caused by lack of exercise are less productive and creative at work or cannot work at all due to illness. This article shows how companies can ensure greater physical activity in daily work routines by exerting gentle pressure to move, using dynamic workstations, and integrating low-threshold fitness modules into the office environment

Diversity und Inclusion: Lippenbekenntnis oder gelebte Realität? : eine quantitative Studie in einem Unternehmen der IT- und Kommunikationsbranche

Today diversity and inclusion are consciously used by companies in order to present themselves as an employer of choice and thus to achieve a competitive advantage in the “war for talents”. The aim of the present work is to ascertain within one chosen company whether the promises shown on the company’s website are actually lived by. The research questions focused on the diversity dimensions “gender” and “age” in connection with further training opportunities and promotion prospects, as well as inclusion. For this purpose, an online survey was conducted, using a specially created questionnaire. Descriptive statistical data were determined and relevant correlations were calculated. Additionally, an analysis of the company website was carried out. The results of the statistical data analysis suggest that the people surveyed did not experience any connection between the diversity dimensions of “gender” or “age” and opportunities for further training or promotion prospects. Furthermore, they feel well integrated and valued within the company. The investigation of the homepage revealed that the organisation mainly cites relevant aspects in the gender diversity category. It can thus be stated that diversity and inclusion are actually lived within the examined company but are not used for diversity and inclusion branding purposes. Additionally, it can be shown that this type of survey can also represent a valuable resource for other companies in dealing with diversity and inclusion.Masterarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 202

    No full text
The demographic change is a major challenge for the civil service in Germany, as numerous retirements are leading to an increasing need for young and qualified personnel. The aim of this work was to find out more about the requirements of the representatives of the Generation Z, as potential young staff member, from the digital external presentation of a public employer and which digital marketing measures can be used to recruit young employees. These questions were investigated through an empirical data collection. For this purpose, a quantitative research approach was chosen and the instrument of an online survey was used. This survey was preceded by a systematic literature search. The study revealed that digital and social media are of an immense importance for recruiting, as the young generation primarily uses the internet and mobile devices to obtain information on career topics. Another finding of the survey is that social media advertising by public employers lends itself to triggering interest in a career in the civil service. In this context, video formats and the social media platform Instagram represent the most promising marketing tools. The age of digitalization influences the behaviour and attitudes of the Generation Z, which for this reason has special expectations of the external presentation and communication of potential public employers. Based on these requirements of the people belonging to the Generation Z, recommendations for actions are derived for the recruitment of the civil service.Masterarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 202

The implementation of Solvency II, in comparison credit insurance with legal costs insurance

    No full text
The new insurance regulation Solvency II has been in force in Austria since 2016. An insurance regulation that was introduced by the European Union and is intended to make insurance companies resistant to crises. Moreover, Solvency II is intended to ensure that insurance companies act fairly and safely in the market. Solvency II required many financial restructurings, ratios and additional provisions. These financial changes have been little researched so far. With this scientific work the changes in the financial structure within the insurance companies shall be shown. It will be explained which new key figures have been added and how these key figures can be calculated. Furthermore, it will be analyzed how these new ratios have developed over the years since the introduction of Solvency II. Changes in these ratios can also be identified and described. Two different insurance companies will be used as examples to illustrate this. Both of these insurance companies operate within two different branches, but are geographically primarily anchored in the Austrian insurance market. With this deliberate reference to two selected insurance companies, it is intended to show how these insurance regulations have been incorporated in practice and can thus best reflect reality. Following this, a comparison between these two selected sectors will be made. In this comparison, it will be analyzed how differently or similarly the points described in the previous section were implemented by the two insurance companies. With the elaboration of the second main part of this scientific work, it is also intended to show how Solvency II operates, independent of or dependent on the insurance sector. At the end of this scientific work, the main aim was to gain a better understanding of Solvency II and its implementation within the financial structure of an in-surance company. In addition, it should be understood where the new tasks and challenges are and how they have been implemented over the last few years.Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien, Masterarb., 202

Beschreibung und Bewertung von Ansätzen zur Differenzierung von Full Service Carrier Airlines im Wettbewerb mit Low Cost Carrier Airlines in der Passagierluftfahrt

    No full text
In recent years, the liberalization of international air transport led to the rise of low-cost airlines worldwide. This relatively new concept, based on low fares and a no-frills product offer, is continuously winning market share from traditional airlines. Due to their cost structure, these traditional airlines, often refered to as Full Service Carriers, are unable to match the low fares of their new competitors. Therefore, they are in urgent need to find other ways to retain their position in the air transport market. The typical way to do this is by using the differentiation strategy: unique and high-quality products and services are implemented in order to convince customers to put up with higher fares. This strategy, however, is costly and relies on the interest of customers in topics such as seating, catering or on-board entertainment. Therefore, it is vital to choose the right products and services to emphasize. This thesis aims to recognize the different approaches a Full Service Carrier can take when executing a differentiation strategy. Each approach is then evaluated based on fixed criteria in order to identify the ones most likely to lead to success.Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien, Masterarb., 202
