ArbeitgeberInnenattraktivität im Zusammenhang mit Nachhaltigkeit am Beispiel der Österreichischen Bundesbahnen

    No full text
This master thesis based on theoretical literature research and a quantitative online survey deals with employer attractiveness in connection with sustainability. Supported by the chosen methods the main research questions will be answered: • What kind of influence has sustainability on the employer attractiveness of a company by the example of the Austrian Federal Railways? • Which benefits related to sustainability influence applicants in choosing their future employer? As part of the work an analyses of the connection between sustainability and the different generations was carried out, meaning how sustainability effects different age classes and how important this factor is for the previous and future generations. The meaning of sustainability increases with advancing age, no matter if sustainability is a trend or an attitude to life. The impact of sustainability on employer attractiveness was verified by a data analysis of both research and online survey. For employers it is important to promote with their social sustainability instead of their ecological and economical sustainability especially when it comes to recruiting new employees. Social sustainability is important for future and current employees and influences their decision for a new employer. To achieve a long-term employment, it is important that the values of employees match with the values of the company. The effect of the Covid 19 pandemic was obvious when considering the choice of benefits as the most important benefits for employees are job security and a permanent contract but not the opportunity to choose home office. For employers it is important to know that crises and external influence can change the behavior of job applicants. That knowledge can be useful in the „war for talents“. Therefore, the recommendation to the Austrian Federal Railways is, that the context between sustainability and employer attractiveness needs to be more analyzed to make sure that sustainability can be used as an advantage over other companies regarding the attractiveness as employer. This can be the basis for finding suitable employees in the era of generation change, digitization and climate change when considering the individual generations.Masterarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 202

The effects of the ESG-criteria on demand & performance of investments

    No full text
Purpose: Investment strategies that incorporate sustainability factors, have recently become central to the investment universe. To make a significant contribution to combating climate change and improving the environment and society, banks and investment companies are increasing their emphasis on compliance with certain sustainability criteria by selecting their investments accordingly. In many cases, those attributes are called environmental, social and governance (ESG). The aim here is to apply strict criteria when selecting companies to be considered as an potential investment. These criteria are intended to distinguish companies that operate sustainably from others, as their business plays a significant role in combating climate change, corruption and fraud and improving society. But does this immense effort pay off or do these attributes have a negative impact on the performance of investments? This thesis deals with these issues in detail by exploring which criteria have an impact on the demand and performance of such investment strategies and in which form. Research Design: This master thesis is divided into two main parts: the first part deals with theoretical issues. It includes the definition and the content of the different sustainability factors. This part is derived from specialised literature and publications of fund companies. The second, empirical part, focuses on the application of ESG factors and their implementation in the investment process. It will be shown whether and to what extent the sustainability factors have influenced demand and performance for investments of this kind. Furthermore, it will be determined whether the consideration of ESG factors in the investment decision process has a direct impact on the performance of investments. Findings: Investigations have shown that investors are increasingly demanding sustainable investment strategies due to past and present environmental and social circumstances, which have led to a growing awareness of the need to improve the situation in the future. Additional support is coming from banks and financial independent consultancies (IFAs), which incorporate ESG investments in their investment recommendations. Sustainable investments have been proven to lead to higher returns than traditional investment strategies, taking risk into account. However, when selecting the appropriate investment strategy, investors should pay close attention to whether the outperformance is achieved due to or despite the focus on ESG. Empirical Implications and Relevance of the Topic: Findings of this master thesis are primarily addressed to potential private and institutional investors, but also to existing investors who would like to make a positive contribution to improve environmental, social and governance conditions with their investments. Many investors have a positive attitude towards sustainability and responsibility towards the climate but doubt the contribution of these investments to improving the climate. In some cases, investors are even prepared to forego part of the return if their investment has a tangible and measurable positive impact on the environment and society. Some banks and investment companies have been offering sustainable investment vehicles for several years, long before climate change became tangible for everyone. Other companies only expanded their offerings when the demand from society became unmistakable.

The topic of this master thesis was: ”New Work. The transformation of leadership and culture in the world of work.” The thesis consists of a theoretical and an empirical part. The research question was: “What requirements do organisations and managers have to meet for New Work environments and what role does organizational culture play in this?” Against this background, the dissertation examines New Work and distinguishes between the New Work concept according to Frithjof Bergmann and the New Work term currently used by companies. Furthermore, this thesis examines the scientific definitions of work and shows how work has developed up to modern times and Taylorism. Another topic is the current change and the drivers of New Work. An important aspect is also the understanding and implementation of New Work tools in the current context and the influence of the Covid-19 pandemic. Likewise, the focus of this thesis is on corporate culture and leadership. The cultural change in organizations and the change of leadership as well as the handling of complexity by managers and new leadership styles in the course of New Work are analyzed. Based on six qualitative expert interviews, the work provides a comprehensive insight into the corporate practice and consulting practice of five Austrian and one German companies with New Work. The results show that companies do not apply the Bergmann concept and that New Work has become a trendy term in the cur-rent context. New Work happens because work is always changing. The current disruptive change and especially digitalization lead to new ways of working. Companies want to be more innovative in the market and more attractive due to the shortage of skilled workers. New ways of working such as self-organization, participation and the use of agile methods are a way for companies to deal with this change. New Work involves risks for managers because they do not want to relinquish their power, position and control. At the same time they are important culture bearers and must exemplify and act as role models. It takes the full commitment of top management to introduce and implement New Work. New Work is a cultural issue. Companies want to adapt the corporate culture to New Work instead of New Work changing the corporate culture.

    No full text
Big data enables the analysis of extremely large amounts of data in order to identify interrelated patterns, trends and connections. In healthcare, the use of big data opens up opportunities for this, for example, advantages at the strategic level, new effectivity and efficiency increases, improved patient service, and competitive ad-vantages. However, health-related data that can be assigned to a specific person are classified as particularly sensitive because they allow deep insights into a very intimate area. Since 25 May 2018, the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has provided the legal framework within which personal data may be processed. Legal safeguards have been created for consumers and companies and this provides the prerequisites for a level playing field for all market participants in Europe. The aim of this master's thesis is to determine whether beneficial developments in hospitals have been identified as a result of the entry into force of the GDPR, or whether operations as a whole have been complicated by additional hurdles in patient treatment caused by the areas of conflict and tension between Big Data and data protection. In order to answer the research questions, an examination of the theoretical foundations is carried out through an in-depth literature review as well as the conduct of an expert interview, whereby the findings obtained from the literature are to be verified. As a result, it was determined that it does not automatically lead to a more complicated daily work routine in a clinic. However, the GDPR requires a change in the understanding of sensitive data and how to deal with it. Based on these findings, it is advisable to see the introduction of the GDPR as an opportunity in the conception and design of work processes in a contemporary healthcare facility.

    No full text
The COVID-19 pandemic has ruthlessly exposed the gaps in digitization in the German school system. In order to conduct lessons during the ordered lockdown, politicians provided iPads and digital learning platforms, and alternate instruction was introduced. The current infection situation has resulted in a potentially permanent shift to distance teaching in alternation with traditional teaching. In 2021, almost all companies have come to rely on blended learning concepts in corporate training. The aim of the present work is to determine the potential of blended learning in school lessons from secondary level II on and to supply recommendations for the implementation of blended learning for decision makers. In addition to an extensive literature review, semi-structured expert interviews were conducted with five teachers from five different schools to answer the research questions. The study concludes that blended learning, as it is used in continuing education in companies, cannot be transferred to school teaching without further adjustments. Although the experts recognize the potentials of blended learning for use in the classroom, they also note risks. On the one hand, the experts’ experience suggests that high-performing students may develop particularly well during distance learning; on the other hand, however, they have observed that low-performing students tend to lose touch with the class under these same conditions. The experts agree that blended learning will only be successful if the digital infrastructure among teachers and students is significantly improved and if effective didactic concepts are developed. Since there is limited research in this area, future studies should begin here. Answering the digitization questions, in line with the education questions, is already one of the major future questions of our society.Masterarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 202

Die digitale Transformation im Sportartikelhandel anhand des Beispiels Nora Pure Sports

    No full text
The aim of the present research was to find out how a small and medium-sized company deals with digitalization, how buying behavior is changing a company perspective and with which activities Nora Pure Sports meets the competition. In order for this, a corresponding literature search was first carried out, and then a branch structure model from Michael E. Porter was developed. It describes the driving forces behind the branch competition within the sporting goods industry, especially the SMEs in this branch. Subsequently, eight experts were asked for an interview, made up of entrepreneurs, representatives of the industry or the respective company, as well as experts in digitalization. With an interview guide, a subsequent qualitative content analysis and a deductive category application, the results are presented accordingly. In general, based on the knowledge gained, it should be noted that competition within the branch can be described as extremely intense. The results mostly obtained from the empiric research coincide with the results from the literature research, because in particular the topic of stationary trade versus digital sales channels was singled out. Added values that are created ad customer experiences that are generated are part of the description of why today’s customers visit stationary retail and why they are very well informed about so many products. Nevertheless, the importance of digital channels is recognized and presented in detail, and this also for the interview partners. Furthermore, it’s described in detail that the buying and information behavior of customers has changed significantly due to digitalization, which has an impact on the acquisition of knowledge in the SME. But also, that the topic of online shopping is not a short-term flow. Overall, it can be stated that a clear positioning of a company in the sporting goods industry must be in the focus, and a corresponding differentiation from the competitors is essential. This case study can subsequently also be used for a quantitative analysis in the SMEs. It can also serve as a template for other branches which are SMEs.Studiengang laut Titelblatt "MBA Digital Marketing and Data Management", tatsächlicher Abschluss MBA Online Marketing.

    No full text
This paper primarily aims to identify the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the ongoing digitization efforts. To this effect, an analysis of survey data on usage behaviour will be performed as well as trends and developments highlighted. Digital capabilities have increased in relevance more than ever since the onset of the COVID-19 crisis. Consequently, the related research question is denoted by: Which initiatives for digital transformation are promoted by society? The crisis-fuelled acceleration of the digital transformation leads to effects on the education sector. As a result of social distancing, far greater emphasis is placed on digital content and remote teaching. Secondly, this paper illuminates which approaches are used by the increasingly digital interaction in a modern learning process. In particular, universities and their activities will be considered. These can make a significant contribution to shaping the coming post-COVID phase in the context of science and economy. Increased cooperation between science and industry can help to overcome the Corona crisis. Can value-creating effects for the location be determined as a result, and if so, which

Wirtschaft und Management : Schriftenreihe zur wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen Forschung und Praxis / Financial stability and systemic risk mitigation in the large-value payment systems in the European Union : a liquidity perspective

    No full text
This paper analyses the functioning of payment systems, especially large-value payment systems, in terms of maintaining financial stability and mitigating systemic risk by means of appropriate liquidity management. Nowadays it is essential that risk management frameworks within financial market infrastructures can be depended on to function reliably and resiliently, in order to ensure that those structures are safe and efficient. This paper therefore examines the economic relationships present in large-value payment systems in the context of a risk exposure analysis and in terms of the risk management frameworks employed, the role of central banks as operators of such systems, and oversight. It focuses on the liquidity management frameworks employed in the European Union, in particular in the TARGET2 and SORBNET2 systems. This paper consists of: (1) an overview of the concept of risk with an emphasis on financial stability objectives and systemic risk mitigation in an interconnected financial system; (2) a classification of financial market infrastructures in the European Union with regard to the functions they typically perform, systems characteristics and legal definitions; (3) an analysis of specific economic interdependencies that influence the smooth functioning of large-value payment systems, including the financial stability outlook, systems design, especially in the context of liquidity risk management, and systemic risk exposure; (4) an analysis of the design and liquidity risk management frameworks in the TARGET2 and SORBNET2 systems
