Multi-Channel Banking: The Perfect Remedy for Retail Banking

    No full text
In multi-channel banking, customers access the bank via diverse channels such as the branch, mobile banking, online banking, or the telephone. Multi-channel banking is indeed useful for customers and people find themselves using different methods and tools to perform banking activities on the daily basis. Service and customer experience have been improved since different channels allow the communication between banks and customers to be more effective and convenient. Multi-channel banking strategies are effectively increasing the value proposition from banks to customers. Moreover, they represent a powerful approach to improve customers-banks relationship and offer great potential to attract and maintain new and current users. However, after conducting an empirical research and testing several hypotheses, critical factors that banks must have into account regarding multi-channel banking and value proposition were identified for the successful implementation of such strategies. It has been identified that Austrian banks do not provide a consistent user experience across the multiple channels. Customers may be offered irrelevant products or inconsistent service through these platforms. Overall, customers do not find multi-channel banking as effective as expected and are not totally satisfied with the service they are getting. This research highlights how banks should implement a customer-centric approach and work on the improvement of relationships with the user as well as strengthen the security in each banking channel.

    No full text
This paper is about the prerequisites for efficient designing of a management report. Internal reporting addresses managers of a company and supports them in making the best decisions. This is crucial for a company’s long term success and is therefore of particular importance. In order to provide a profound management report some preconditions have to be met. First of all the prepared reports must have a clear purpose. Secondly the internal Report needs to be available to a specific group. This group usually consists of employees in leading positions. Furthermore the information included in the internal reports needs to be accurate and available timely. The created reports also need to be easily available for all the recipients. The second part of this paper deals with the content (financials and non-financials) of internal reports. Decisions concerning the content of internal reports need to be closely aligned with the recipients in order to create value for them. Furthermore the “Key Performance Indicators” need to be connected to the overall strategy of a company. The third part is concerned with the presentation form of the content. There are two fundamental ways to visualize data. One way is the use of spreadsheets; the other way is visualization through charts. Each form of visualization is connected to several advantages and disadvantages. Especially charts can sometimes be hard to understand or even misleading, so special attention needs to be drawn to this topic. The last part of this paper deals with future trends that might influence management reports and management reporting as a whole. Among those trends are the use of “Big Data”, “Management Self-Reporting” and management reporting as an external service / consulting of management reporting. Finally the paper intends to give a profound summary of all the findings and give answers to the research questions.Manuela ReitbauerMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 2015 Fachbereich: Betriebswirtschaftslehr

    No full text
The goal of this thesis is the analysis of the effects of the digital distribution on the value chain of the gaming industry, on project management of early access and free 2 play games and the role of players in those business models. To answer the re-search questions the author interviewed experts of the gaming industry in Austria and Germany. Due to the digital distribution possibilities new business models evolve and developers and publishers are getting more and more independent from distributors and retailers. Free 2 Play Games are dominating the mobile games mar-ket and the early access program allows new ways of collaboration between players and developers. As games are moving towards games as a service, developers keep adding content to their games, even after their games have been released. With reviews and other feedback measures players are gaining influence on the content of games, as developers depend on positive user scores in the various online shops. Project management needs also to adapt to these new circumstances as the requirements change as soon as a game gets live.Milo GutmannMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 2015 Fachbereich: Projektmanagemen

Die Auswirkungen urbaner Verkehrskonzepte auf den Wirtschaftsverkehr : ein Städtevergleich Wien-München-Bozen

This master thesis is designed to show the impact of parking management on the movement of shipments and services throughout cities, also referred to as “commer-cial traffic”. This research provides a comparison focus on the cities Vienna, Munich and Bolzano. An analysis of these three cities shows that they have to cope with higher traffic volume, which influences not only the moving but also the stationary traffic. An increase in e-commerce is one of the main reasons for the increase in traf-fic volume, especially by so called CEP providers (Courier, Express and Parcel). Fur-thermore, the service sector (e.g. craftsman) as an essential part of the traffic struc-ture within a city found little or no reference in urban transport planning processes. Therefore, the service sector was also included in the analysis. The impact of parking management has been determined from expert interviews and an online survey with forwarders and service providers. This data is a necessity in order to understand the situation and for the future recommendations made in this research study. These recommendations should be included in the transport planning process of Vienna, Munich and Bolzano, but may also be adopted for other cities and municipalities.Anja Strickner, Sabine TitzMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 2015 Fachbereich: Verkeh

    No full text
In an ever faster changing world, where competition is getting fierce, resources and budgets are running out faster and customers become more and more picky, companies need to find a way not only to survive, but to remain competitive. One of the possible options to deal with these challenges is to adopt a project oriented business model. This orientation of companies towards projects increases the need for competent project managers. This trend has also been recognised by the educational providers and nowadays, more and more institutions offer project management courses in their curricula. This master thesis investigates to what degree the educational offers for project management programs from the DACH region correspond to the requirements of the labour market. The methodological approach consists of a mixture of literature review, quantitative analysis of 124 online job advertisements and 12 expert interviews with experienced project managers from Austria (seven), Germany (three) and Switzerland (two). The main findings show that the key competences of a project manager are the methodological competences, the professional competences, the social competences and the business competences. Most of the identified educational programs cover these four competences areas. Nevertheless, the current programs are far from perfect and improvements still need to be done. By describing the requirements of the labour market for a project management position and the expectations of practitioners from a project management education, this paper helps education providers asses their strengths and weaknesses and identify potential areas of improvement.Andrada Corina IovuţaMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 2015 Fachbereich: Project Managemen

This master thesis addresses social media marketing in SMEs. SMEs are able to gain substantial value from social media but there are also challenges like lack of personnel resources and know-how. The master thesis aims to investigate how social media has to be implemented and used by SMEs for marketing purposes and to provide SMEs with practical recommendations. To answer the research question, the current literature surrounding social media marketing is discussed and an empirical survey (expert interview) is conducted. Survey data is interpreted by means of summarizing content analysis. The present work gives academics a literature review on social media marketing and provides SMEs with a handbook for social media usage for marketing purpose. Results indicate that social media marketing has to be run by SMEs systematically and goal-oriented. Social media marketing is considered as a three-phase cycle: the conception phase, the implementation and interaction phase, and the control phase. In the conception phase, SMEs have to analyse their status quo of social media usage, to set objectives, and to formulate strategies of social media activities. In this context, the present work identifies efficient analysis and planning instruments as well as appropriate social media channels that best meet SMEs’ needs. Furthermore, success factors of the implementing and interaction phase are identified. Success factors include, first of all, authentic appearance in social media which implies that SMEs should truly live communicated standards and values. Secondly, social media posts have to offer additional value for users such as useful information and entertainment. Thirdly, word-of-mouth has to be managed by SMEs purposefully. Moreover, the present work provides recommendations on communication crisis management. The control phase encompasses social media monitoring and controlling that deliver impulses for the optimisation of social media concept and single activities. For the monitoring and controlling purposes, SMEs are recommended to use free tools offered by social media channels.Elena GorelovaMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 2015 Fachbereich: Betriebswirtschaftslehr

Umfassende Amtshilfe: Die Auswirkungen des Abgabenänderungsgesetzes 2014 auf den Verlustausgleich mit ausländischen Gruppenmitgliedern

    No full text
Since its implementation in 2005 the Austrian group taxation regime has already undergone several major changes. The most recent one has occurred in the course of the revision of the Austrian Tax Act 2014 (Abgabenänderungsgesetz 2014). One of the new regulations which were introduced caused a particular heated debate; from January 1st 2015 only nonresident group members that are located in the European Union or in third-party countries that share comprehensive administrative assistance (umfassende Amtshilfe) with Austria can be included into tax groups. The moving cause for the limitation of the Austrian group taxation regime was a report by the board of audit published in 2013 that expressed severe criticism towards the actual system as there was a lack of control over the group members situated in countries without comprehensive administrative assistance. One of the findings of the research demonstrates that international cooperation in the field of taxation is inevitable to avoid tax avoidance and evasion on the one hand and double taxation of crossborder issues on the other. The challenge regarding international cooperation is the multitude of sources that range from several bi- and multilateral agreements to national regulations such as the Administrative Assistance Implementation Act. Despite the high number of sources of law the term "comprehensive assistance" is neither mentioned nor defined which lead to great uncertainty as the changes in the group taxation regime were announced. To end the debate which countries do or do not fulfill the criteria for comprehensive assistance the Federal Ministry of Finance published an information that listed all the countries that were eligible to be part of the Austrian group taxation system. The impact of the changes on the group taxation are farreaching, as they significantly limit both the geographical scope and the possibility of the inclusion of losses itself. Due to the inconsistency and incompleteness of the data provided in the report of the board of audit, the amount of foreign group members that are affected by the changes cannot be estimated accurately. On the basis of the available data 2% up to 30% of the existing taxation groups in Austria could be concerned by the restrictions. A final statement on the impact of changes can therefore only be made when the necessary data is collected and published by the Federal Ministry of Finance.

    No full text
The European Central Bank (ECB) launched its Quantitative Easing (QE) Programme at the beginning of the year 2015. This programme is the consequence to the negative trend in the Eurozone in terms of inflation and decreasing creditworthiness of most of the European countries which triggered off the financial crisis in 2008. Although the ECB already implemented a lot of conventional and also unconventional activities to stabilize the Eurozone they could not achieve striking economic changes. Lowering the key interest rates or allocating special credits to European banks were some of the activities conducted by the ECB the years after the financial crisis. This leads to the economy’s need of recent disposable capital. QE was never used before in Europe. Therefore, no conclusions can be drawn from other countries experience and results in using QE. This master thesis concentrates on the consequences of these unconventional methods used the by ECB for European banks and the allocation of credits in Austrian banks. The first part of this thesis will analyse existing models and methods of QE used by other nations which will be the theoretical basis for this thesis. In order to understand the consequences of the action from QE on Austrian banks, interviews with employees of Austrian banks were conducted. The results were compared with the previous mentioned theoretical background and economic data provided by the ECB and the Austrian National Bank. The analysis showed that QE had barely consequences on Austrian banks and the private sector. Consequently the demand for credits in Austrian’s companies and the public is still depressed after the financial crisis due to a lack of trust in the banking sector. Furthermore the bond purchase programme led to an excess of liquidity, higher pressure in margins of banks and low interest rates in the Eurozone which enhanced the crisis additionally.Pamina Maria StraussMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 2015 Fachbereich: Volkswirtschaftslehr
