EU Sanktionen gegen Russland: ökonomische Auswirkungen auf Russland und Österreich

    No full text
Due to the continuous globalisation of economic processes and increasing interna-tional linkages of many companies, the role of political risk has grown in im-portance in recent years. Governmental actions such as sanctions are often criti-cised for ignoring risks and representing challenges for countries, industries and companies operating internationally. In response to the Ukrainian crisis and an-nexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation in 2014, EU governments imposed sanctions on Russian individuals and companies. Later on the scope of sanctions increased and as a counter-reaction the Russian government banned the total food import from the European Union in August 2014. Many experts expressed their view, that these restrictive measures may cause strong impacts on the econ-omies of the participating states. The aim of this work is the identification of eco-nomic consequences in the target county (Russia) as well as in the home county (Austria) - due to the political events. In particular, this work discusses only the economic aspects of the sanctions, which have been ordered by the European Union in 2014 against the Russian Federation due to the Ukrainian Crisis.Olga AnuchinaMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 2016 Fachbereich: Volkswirtschaftslehr

Die Multikanal-Bank : eine notwendige Entwicklung des Customer Relationship Managements auf Grund der Einführung elektronischer Vertriebskanäle

    No full text
The banking sector, particularly in Austria is "overbanked" and "over branched", which increases the challenge to keep the customers loyalty. If they do not receive optimal care, customers will quickly pick another bank and find better service. This form of hybrid customer behavior is called „cherry picking“ and it affects banks greatly. Especially in times of low interest rates and declining margins, a long lasting customer relationship is essential to ensure an ongoing business practice and generate returns with the help of fees and expenses. To retain customers, the „dusty“ and outdated company „bank“ has to offer new opportunities and innovative service. Creating a modern appearance will be necessary to meet the customers’ expectations. The focus is in the implementation of modern distribution and communication channels. Using Facebook and Twitter is instrumental, but requires constancy to be considered innovative. Introducing more distribution channels does represent a big challenge. Each customer should receive the same service in his habitual quality, regardless of which channel she or he chooses to use. To ensure the appearance of a multi channel bank, during the introduction of new or maintenance of existing electronic distribution channels, an adaptation of its customer relationship management is essential. Only a consistent appearance as a multi channel bank, can lead to a strong customer relationship. This Diploma Thesis deals with necessary adjustments of customer relationship management due to the establishment of new distribution channels. Two Austrian multi channel banks were interviewed. The results of the interviews show on one hand the ne-cessity of multi channel banking. On the other hand the complexity of managing a multi channel bank is presented.Leander TymciwMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 201

Due to the progressive development of the globalization and the actual continuously increasing competition in the domestic market, Austrian companies are forced to seek for new markets and are looking forward to maintain or expand their businesses. Concerning the very good geographic proximity including the possibility to reach Hungary easily and without border-controls, many Austrian companies set up their targets relating to the Hungarian Market. In addition to the obvious ones there are many other factors which has to be considered making the expansion to Hungary valuable and profitable. The main goal of this thesis is to find out, which potential drivers could lead to a success or failure of a foreign direct investment in Hungary. Beside of the drivers, it is important to analyze potential political, economic, or cultural risk of the host country. Through the history of the passed centuries, Austria and Hungary had a tight closeness, both in the economic and cultural relations. After the fall of the Iron Curtain the relationship between the two countries have started to warm up again. Nowadays, huge multinational corporations are operating in Hungary under different circumstances. In conclusion the aim of this thesis is also to constitute the possibility of how to minimize risks and optimize success factors and which had to be considered for a foreign direct investment.Edin BegovicMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 2016 Fachbereich: Betriebswirtschaftslehr

This theoretical master thesis analyzes the current position of the Russian Federa-tion on an axis between democracy and autocracy under special consideration of the human rights situation. In doing so the work is divided into two main parts. Firstly, the human rights situation in the Russian Federation got analyzed. For the evaluation four exemplary topics were chosen: The situation in the North Caucasus, the judicial system, elections and the media. The analysis brought massive large-scale human rights violations to light. Secondly, an assessment of the quality of the democracy in the Russian Federation was made. Merkel’s 6 dimensions got used to distinguish between autocracy and democracy. The results indicated that the Russian Federation is a democracy. There were problems in every dimension, but the democratic logic behind the di-mension was not eliminated at all. To further analyze the quality of democracy Merkel’s embedded democracy concept got applied. There are 5 regimes to evaluate. The Russian Federation has defects in nearly all regime parts. This points to a highly defective democracy. The type of democracy defect was identified as a mixture of the illiberal and the delegative democracy, with a small tendency towards the illiberal type. This work demonstrates the inherent relationship between the human rights situa-tion of a nation and the quality of democracy. Human rights are integral parts of democracy, as evaluated in the embedded democracy concept. Thereby the com-pliance to human rights norms also directly influences the state of democracy. It got illustrated that the non-compliance of the Russian Federation to international human rights norms negatively affects their quality of democracy.Katharina WeissMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 2016 Fachbereich: Politikwissenschaf

The policy of low interest rates by the ECB affects all credit institutions in the euro zone, whereby most of the companies suffer from decreasing interest earnings, volatile financial markets and increasing regulatory regulations. Building associations are specialized banks whose business model differs from most of the other banks. The question is how far the Austrian building associations are affected by the low interest rates in the euro zone and what it means for their sales figures and for their financial performance. Another question is whether there is a difference to building associations in other countries with other legal frameworks and market conditions. This paper elaborates on these questions and gives an overview of the impacts on their most important financial and sales figures and how the companies react on the difficult market conditions. Therefore the annual reports of the companies were analyzed to gather information. Furthermore, interviews with experts from two Austrian building associations as well as one expert from Slovakia and one from Croatia were held to get information about their reactions and to find out about differences. To elaborate the paper, two research questions and three hypo-theses were compiled which are answered at the end of the work. One of the out-comes of this thesis is, that the companies faced decreasing sales rates of their mortgage loans, due to the fact that their business model is not really made for such low interest rates, wherefore they were no more competitive against the retail banks. For that reason, the companies had to adjust their products.Diplomarbeit Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 201

Economic Development in Emerging Markets: Case of Nigeria and China

Development economics is a key branch of economics which attempts to highlight aspects in the development process of developing countries. It is defined as the differing theories concerning growth, poverty, institutions, and inequality in less developed countries. In order to answer the central question of the paper: “To what extent do the theories of development economics help to understand the economic reality of developing countries”, this paper explores and assesses the different theories of development economics, and applies them to the economies of Nigeria and China, highlighting the various aspects of the theories that apply to the actual conditions of the respective countries. Nigeria is among the most developed countries in Africa, which has experienced considerable economic growth since the early 20th century and is now considered as Africa’s biggest economy. However, in spite of being a nation blessed with large oil reserves, the economy has performed relatively poorly in the past three decades. In contrast to Nigeria, China has experienced rapid economic development over the last three decades, to become one of the largest economies in the world. By applying the theories of development to the growth of the Nigerian and Chinese economies, the evidence suggests that the extent to which the development theories help to understand the economic realities of developing countries depends on the country in question, as the theories cannot be applied to every developing country equally, because each country has different political and cultural dynamics, creating various environments that influence the direction of the economic development process.Ebenezer OritseejemiteMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 201

Reshoring of manufacturing facilities has been rising worldwide in recent years, just like the studies of the main factors which lead to backshoring to the home country. Particularly with regard to constantly changing environmental conditions in the fast-paced economy, the appropriate location decision is highly relevant for every manufacturing company. However, the number of academic research conducted on this topic is manageable in Austria. Especially small and medium-sized enterprises have been ignored by research facilities. The goal of this master thesis is to diminish this academic void by analyzing various factors which promote reshoring to Austria together with the challenges of location decisions in the future, particularly relating to small and medium-sized enterprises. The first part of this paper represents an introduction of the topic as well as definitions. The current state of research on this topic has been illustrated additionally in the main chapter. The second part of the master thesis contains the empirical analysis together with the empirical findings which were performed with guided interviews of experts on this theme. The results will show that reshoring is currently not prevailing in Austria which could be a consequence of the limited amount of offshoring companies in Austria. Nevertheless, quality issues are the main reason for an Austrian manufacturing company to reshore their facilities. Tax concession as well as the reduction of the associated employer outlay could force Austrian companies to move back to Austria. Rising wages as well as low transport costs are actual hardly any reason for reshoring to Austria. The main uncertainty in the future for Austrian companies will be the developments of the European Union which could lead to difficulties at the location decision.Elisabeth ZimaMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 2016 Fachbereich: Supply Chain Managemen

Die interne Unternehmenskommunikation als Instrument des Personalmanagements am Beispiel des Mediums „Intranet“

A company´s success is strongly related to the efficient structure of its internal communications. By having strong and technologically advanced media, companies are able to make use of the advantages of internal information exchange. Hence innovation and improvements of production and service patterns are possible. The major factor for such knowledge transfer is the employee who is the bearer of know-how that is not set out in writing. Companies that are aware of this fact and concentrate their efforts on the demands of their employees as an individual stakeholder group are more likely to succeed on the market. Employees need a platform where they can communicate and inform themselves on subjects they need occasionally or in their daily routine. Such networks are called intranets. They connect people from all departments of the organization. Additionally they provide employees with updated information. Some of them even offer the possibility to rate the content and give feedback to the content provider. Even though this major technological development is already common in most companies, the question remains whether this certain tool is the best one to work and communicate with. Catching up with new trends does not mean that the company is on the safe side. Advantages as well as challenges need to be reflected in order to get insights on the subject. This paper looks at the shape of internal communications and analyses the importance of intranets. It introduces the case of an Austrian company as a successful example of implementing a well structured internal communications culture. Communication is a very difficult subject and the sooner companies learn to handle it right the better their performance will be.Eda OktayMasterarbeit Fachhochschule des BFI Wien 2016 Fachbereich: Betriebswirtschaftslehr
