IFRS 9 - Finanzinstrumente : die Bilanzierung von Finanzinstrumenten nach IAS 39 und IFRS 9 im Vergleich

    No full text
This Master's thesis deals with the effects and changes of the new standard IFRS 9 - Financial Instruments. While the financial statements refer to the explanatory notes as a more or less brief explanation, significantly more information must be provided under IFRS. This applies in particular to financial instruments. The re-placement of the old IAS 39 standard by the new IFRS 9 standard is not only a challenge for IFRS accounting companies, but also has an impact on IFRS con-versions. The research question asked for this paper is “which changes and ef-fects will arise for the consolidated financial statements in the disclosure re-quirements due to the since January 1, 2018 valid IFRS 9 equity regulations of Austrian banks?” The answer to this question can be answered by a literature review, which gives an overview of the new standard, and a document analysis, which is carried out on the basis of corporation reports. The empirical part exam-ines the annual financial reports 2017 and half-year financial reports 2018 of all Austrian banks listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange. The information contained therein leads to the answer to the research question. It can be said that the ex-pected impact of the 2017 annual reports is in line with the actual impact of the 2018 half-year reports, except for one bank.

    No full text
The main purpose of this master thesis is to explore the technical progress in the field of controlling in Austrian companies as well as identifying possible practical areas of use for innovative IT tools. Furthermore, this master thesis aims to discuss how the trend of digitization, process automation and big data may influence the future role of the controller. This is a significant topic given that digitization and big data offer great potential not only for new business models, but also for the field of controlling. The first part of this master thesis is based on literature research to develop the theoretical background. In the second part the author carried out an empiric investigation to generate new knowledge regarding the technical progress in the field of controlling and future perspectives of controllers from the perspective of Austrian companies. First, it was found that the trend of digitization might have a major impact on controlling, as there are many applications in this area, but despite the popularity of these digital trends, they have not yet made it to the Austrian companies. In the theoretical part of this thesis, several IT tools could be identified, but Self-Service Reporting is the only tool used by more than half of the controlling departments in Austria. The other tools are rarely used. Second, this thesis shows that controllers will not only play a much stronger role as business partners in the future, but they should also develop their professional skills regarding information technology and business analytics. Finally, the thesis shows that the training institutions in Austria already reacted to this development as further training opportunities regarding big data, business analytics, and business partnering became part of the regular course program. In contrast, universities of applied sciences and universities in particular continue to have a considerable pent-up demand in this field. Although many aspects of the phenomenon of digitization in controlling have been discussed in this master thesis, additional studies in this area are highly recommended.Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien, Masterarb., 201

Open-plan offices are an increasing trend in office organisation. Reasons for the growing application of this office type are cost savings, the stimulation of communication among employees and a resulting increase in productivity. However, scientific results indicate majorly negative impacts, especially on employees’ workspace satisfaction. This paper aims at investigating the workspace satisfaction of employees with the factors noise, visual privacy, acoustic privacy, personal communication, telephonic communication, electronic communication, spatial density, temperature, air quality and lighting conditions in open-plan offices of large-scale enterprises in Austria. Data is gathered by the use of a quantitative questionnaire (n=101). Frequency distribution and multivariate analysis consisting of correlation and regression analysis are applied for evaluation. The ten influential parameters are derived from a literature review. Results show that a dependency of workspace satisfaction on eight of the ten parameters exists when an individual regression analysis for these factors is conducted. However, only one factor is significant when conducting a regression analysis with all ten variables in one model. The subsequent stepwise regression analysis ultimately reveals three parameters to be significant. The employees’ workspace satisfaction in Austrian companies is partly consistent with results from previous research, i.e. prominent dissatisfaction with privacy and ambient factors. Moreover, requirements for an ideal workplace in an open-plan office as well as differences in workspace satisfaction depending on the industry are analysed. Furthermore, workspace satisfaction depending on the organisation of workplaces, the homogeneity of tasks, the size of the open-plan office and the availability of quiet rooms are investigated as these parameters are characteristics of open-plan offices. Concerning overall workspace satisfaction, regression analysis determines the availability of quiet rooms as an exclusive source of explanation. However, the adjusted determination coefficient only amounts to approximately five percent. Other outstanding differences in workspace satisfaction were also verified. For instance, the prominent dependency of satisfaction with ambient factors on the size of the open-plan office was proven significant for the parameter “satisfaction with air quality”.Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien, Masterarb., 201

Der „Islamische Staat“ zwischen Terrorismus und Organisierter Kriminalität : die Finanzierung einer Aufstandsbewegung

Globalization has not only had positive impacts. One aspect, that has not had enough attention in the past, is the increase in alliances between terrorist organisations and organised crime. Transnational networks, almost invisible to the eye of the public, threaten the world’s peace and therefore need to be investigated. One major advantage that terrorist groups take of the transnational network is their financing. The Islamic State has been a survival artist so far. Even though the Caliphate is defeated at the moment, the enormous amounts of funds that the IS and similar organisations receive have to be stopped. Otherwise, insurgencies will continuously destabilize regions, which then in turn can be misused by terrorist organisations. The purpose of this paper is to show the means of financing that the IS made use of as well as to highlight changes over the past years.Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien, Masterarb., 201

Incorporation of Blockchain Technology for Traditional Banking

    No full text

    No full text
Innovation and emerging technologies are the key drivers of a country’s economic growth. The increasing pace of technological change however, has also revived the concerns that automation will not only change our working environment, but even more so result in a widespread technological unemployment. Against this background recent studies are aimed at allocating automatabilities to different occupations/tasks. Regardless of the method used to calculate the substitution potential, the logistics and transportation sector is considered at high risk. In contrast to previous research, this master’s thesis provides a profound study on the substitutability of human resources in logistics with a focus on the groupage sector. It is especially this sub-market that compromises standardized processes, enhancing the potential for its automation. While in the previous studies the automatability was based on technological aspects, it is now defined as the sum of all factors that have an impact on the level of substitution. The main Austrian logistics providers in this field were asked to give their estimation on the automatability of predefined tasks, emphasizing the factors that promote and hinder automation. The results show that tasks related to the transportation and handling of goods are at lower risk of being substituted in the near future. On the other hand, order processing and scheduling tasks are more likely to undergo significant changes. Contrary to previous assumptions, manual tasks are in this case more difficult to automate than cognitive tasks, which is mainly due to the heterogeneity of general cargo. This demonstrates the importance of considering sector-specific features for the assessment of automation potentials. The research also proves that there are not only technological obstacles to overcome, but also other external factors as e.g. customer requirements that the company is not in control of. It is especially due to its network character, that the groupage sector is highly affected by external influences. Besides these factors, the substitution potential is eventually also limited to the logistics provider’s automation decision and the internal willingness to innovate.Wien, Fachhochschule des BFI Wien, Masterarb., 201
