    No full text
The amount of information available in the financial markets is vast and cannot be interpreted by every investor. Financial analysts collect, analyse and publish reports and recommendations on listed companies. The impact of financial analysts' coverage of listed companies has been extensively discussed in several markets. The literature has focused on the informational value of financial analysts' reports for both investors and the companies they cover. Various studies (Barber et al., 2001; Bellando et al., 2016; Kecskés et al., 2016; Moshirian et al., 2009; D. B. Vukovic et al., 20-21; Womack, 1996) have found that financial analysts' publications are valuable in the eyes of investors and help to guide investment decisions. For the listed company, coverage and monitoring by financial analysts could have a number of positive effects that could help improve its liquidity and even its survival on the stock market. According to the literature, financial analysts' reports reduce information asymmetries both between the monitored company and investors and between different categories of investors. They reduce agency costs between majority and minority shareholders. Their publication would also improve the informational efficiency of the market. In this article, we attempt to provide a narrative literature review of the main studies that have highlighted the impact of financial analysts' coverage and monitoring of firms. We focus on the value of coverage to the firm rather than to investors.   Keywords: Analyst coverage, informative content, recommendations, efficient market hypothesis, information asymmetry. A retrospective on the 2008 financial crisis: in-depth analysis

    No full text
The financial crisis has always been one of the most worrying and talked-about topics in finance. Triggered by a series of interconnected factors, the main causes included the housing market bubble and subprime mortgages. The wide-ranging and long-lasting consequences included a global economic recession, rising unemployment, massive losses for investors, and deteriorating public finances in many countries. In the liberal capitalist economy, financial crises are frequent and repetitive phenomena, hence the importance of analyzing the 2008 financial crisis to prevent future ones. Regulations and laws such as the Dodd-Frank Act and the Basel III reform have been put in place to meet the challenges of this crisis. It is against this backdrop that the present document focuses on an in-depth analysis of the causes and consequences of the financial crisis, as well as an overview of the regulations, laws, and reforms put in place to meet these challenges. The various factors that led to the crisis, such as the formation of a real estate bubble, inappropriate monetary policies, sub-prime mortgages, and credit default swaps, have been meticulously analyzed to provide a comprehensive view of the deep roots of the crisis. The repercussions of the crisis, including bank failures, mass bankruptcies of major financial institutions (LEHMEN BROTHERS), unemployment rates, and stock market fluctuations, were also examined to highlight the considerable impact of the crisis on various sectors of the economy. Sustainable Tourism and Destination Resilience: A Symbiotic Relationship Based on Dynamic Capabilities?

    No full text
Although tourism undeniably provides benefits, it also presents potential drawbacks to the socio-cultural and ecological systems and, at times, creates economic vulnerabilities. The current scholarly conversation around sustainable tourism mostly revolves on the consequences of tourist activities and the strategies for extending their viability. The susceptibility of the sector to interruptions and crises over long periods of time highlights the need of resilience in the field of sustainable tourism. In accordance with this viewpoint, the current text aims to define "the durability of sustainable tourism." The purpose of this study is to explore the interconnections among tourism, sustainability, and resilience. It aims to identify the necessary conditions for sustainable tourism to stimulate economic growth, aligning with the environmental and socio-cultural values of the countries hosting the tourism industry. Additionally, it seeks to develop strategies to address potential crises and disruptions that may pose risks to the sustainability of tourism. This paper provides a critical evaluation of the alignment between these two paradigms and emphasizes the need of implementing a sustainable tourism strategy in tourist destinations. Our inquiry aims to expand the existing body of knowledge and provide new ideas on tourist resilience. We propose a conceptual framework that combines several models based on dynamic capacities.

    No full text
The spectacular growth in foreign direct investment flows around the world in the late 70s had a significant impact on the global economy. A number of developing countries have seen their economies revive by following the trend of globalization and market liberalization, and by adopting strategies to attract foreign direct investment. The positive role played by the presence of multinationals in host countries is both visual and remarkable, but there is no consensus, particularly in the empirical literature. In this article, we present a classic narrative literature review on the impact of foreign direct investment in economic growth. Analysis has shown that foreign direct investment can have a positive impact on economic growth in the short term, directly through capital accumulation and technology transfer between multinationals and their subsidiaries, and a more significant impact in the long term through the vertical and horizontal externalities that MNFs diffuse in host economies, local firms benefit from these spillovers through diffusion channels, while the divergence of empirical results can be explained by the host country's ability  to provide the preconditions for absorbing externalities.   Keywords: Foreign direct investment, spillovers, human capital, economic growth. JEL Classification : B1, F23, F43, F21, Q56. Innovation is an essential condition for any company that wants to survive or be competitive (Temri, 2000). Thus, SME must anticipate the desires and expectations of customers despite the difficulties of access to financing (Diop, 2019) that they encounter knowing that innovation requires a lot of resources, knowledge, skills, tools and interrelationships (Cortes Robles, 2006; Morel et al. 2015). This paper is part of a resources approach and aims to identify the different factors which determine the capacity for marketing innovation among SME. The results obtained after using the qualitative and quantitative methodology as well as the Churchill paradigm, show that the capacity for marketing innovation has three dimensions: partnerships for innovation, means of innovating and the manager's desire to innovate. An analysis and discussion of these results makes it possible to understand that the innovation capacity of SME/TCFL does not only depend on the financial resources at their disposal.   Key words : innovation, marketing, marketing innovation capacity, SME managers, processing of cereals, fruits and vegetables Classification JEL : M31 Paper Type : Empirical ResearchL’innovation est une condition indispensable pour toute entreprise qui veut survivre ou être compétitive (Temri, 2000).

    No full text
The Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) is seen as a new field crowned by initiatives that aim for social, environmental and economic development while strengthening the social ties between the various players. By its very nature, the SSE sector is resolutely innovative. It is in the field of SSE that we can speak of social innovation, which makes it possible to improve or solve a social problem from a global perspective (C. Bouchard, 1999). In this paper, we seek to highlight the role that social innovation can play in strengthening the SSE sector and improving its competitiveness. Our problem is as follows: "To what extent can social innovation be a determining factor for the SSE? To answer this question, we will review the literature on the birth and development of the social and solidarity economy. We will also detail and explain the theoretical foundations and principles of the social and solidarity economy, with the aim of highlighting the characteristics that make up this new field and making it a key area for the development of social innovations. We will then show that the social/solidarity-based economy is a prime example of social innovation. And to fully understand the links between the SSE and the SI, we plan to conduct a qualitative study by interviewing professionals, experts and university professors using an interview guide.

Cooperatives play an important role in job creation. It is a source of income generation throughout the world. It is also an economic player whose role and activities contribute to solving the problems of poverty and the development of societies, even if it gives rise to voluntary autonomy in order to satisfy common needs. Its establishment calls for several economic, social, cultural and legal aspects. This paper is concerned with a comparative study of the legal and economic framework of Moroccan and Gabonese cooperatives. The aim is to highlight the points in common, while noting the differences between the legislation governing cooperatives in these two countries, and to take advantage of the legal texts in force. Our main interest is to identify the different economic trends by showing the importance of the legal texts for good organization of the cooperative. This study has enabled us to put forward a number of proposals for the economic development of Moroccan and Gabonese cooperatives, in terms of both organization and functions. The creation of think tanks made up of economic and legal experts could be a step forward in terms of management methods and support for volunteers. The analysis of the information gathered has enabled us to monitor the legal and economic development of Moroccan and Gabonese cooperatives, through their organization and involvement in certain sectors of activity. Key words: Gabon, Morocco, legal economic, Cooperative Classification JEL: K40 Ppaper type: Theoretical researchLa coopérative joue un rôle important dans la création d’emploi.

Managing Compliance Risk in Banks: the role of the Compliance Function

    No full text
This article examines the role of the compliance function in managing compliance risk within Moroccan banks. Recent financial crises and scandals have underscored the critical importance of robust compliance mechanisms in maintaining stability and public confidence in the banking system. Drawing on agency theory, institutional theory, and stakeholder theory, we investigate how Moroccan banks are strengthening their compliance functions to effectively manage compliance risks in an evolving regulatory landscape. Our study employs a qualitative approach, utilizing semi-structured interviews with eight compliance professionals from various Moroccan banks. Thematic analysis of the interview data reveals five key themes: (1) the centrality of compliance in Moroccan banks, (2) the robustness of compliance functions, (3) challenges in implementing compliance practices, (4) interaction between compliance and other bank departments, and (5) future outlook for banking compliance in Morocco. The findings support our hypotheses that banking compliance is central to the concerns of Moroccan banks and that they have developed rigorous compliance functions. However, challenges remain, particularly in resource allocation, cultural integration, and managing the complexity of international compliance. The study highlights the strategic importance of compliance, its role in risk management, and its integration with other bank functions. Our research contributes to the literature by providing empirical insights into compliance practices in an emerging market context, bridging the gap between theoretical frameworks and real-world implementation. The article concludes with practical recommendations for banks seeking to enhance their compliance functions and suggests avenues for future research in this evolving field.   Keywords: Compliance Function, Compliance Risk, Bank Compliance Classification JEL: G21, G28, G32 Paper type: Empirical ResearchThis article examines the role of the compliance function in managing compliance risk within Moroccan banks.
