Workplace culture plays a significant role in job choice and employee engagement, building a sense of belonging and enhancing productivity. This study explored organizational performance when connected with Hofstede’s cultural dimensions. A quantitative questionnaire which measured Hofstede’s four cultural dimensions including Power Distance, Uncertainty Avoidance, Individualism-Collectivism, and Masculinity was used as the research instrument to collect data from the employees serving in private banks in Karachi that were selected conveniently. The findings reveal a strong correlation between Organizational Performance and Hofstede’s cultural dimensions. Nevertheless, the correlation between Organizational Performance and Individualism-Collectivism and Masculinity was found in a reverse order suggesting that increased Individualism-Collectivism and Masculinity resulted in decreased Organizational Performance. This study offers valuable insight for banks and other organizations seeking to tailor their workplace environments to optimize employee productivity and satisfaction

The study to investigate the impact of skill development training on student performance through the mediating role of student satisfaction. The study adopted the quantitative research design, and secondary cross-sectional data was acquired through a questionnaire. The participants underwent training for skills, and their performance was evaluated later through a questionnaire. The quality of the instructor, course design, instructor prompt feedback, and student feedback are our independent variables, and the dependent variable is the student\u27s performance. Currently, multiple platforms are being used for training purposes; however, Pakistan has a relatively low level of awareness. The development of the simple regression econometric model aims to investigate the impact of skill development training on student performance. The researcher used the purposive sampling technique to achieve the research objectives. The Linear Regression Model is used to test the impact of skill development on student performance. The study results indicate that skill development training has benefitted students and has significantly affected their performance. By providing the relevant skills training, students will now have better job opportunities and growth at their workplace. This will help reduce inflation and help the economy grow

Fear of Missing Out Moderating the Association Between Social Media Usage and Subjective Well-Being Among Young Adults

    Get PDF
The present study explores the connection between Social Media Engagement (SME), Fear of Missing Out (FOMO), and Subjective Well-Being (SWB) of young adults in Punjab. Taking a cross-sectional, correlational approach, this study made use of non-probability convenience sampling to collect data from Punjab. Statistical analysis was applied to determine whether a positive correlation existed between SME and FOMO, while a negative correlation between SME and SWB; moreover, FOMO is assumed to mediate the SME-SWB relationship. These findings are in line with theories of Self-Determination and Social Comparison, which postulate that social media cultivates upward comparisons and unmet psychological needs, thereby negatively impacting SWB. The outcomes have implications for mental health interventions and policies that could combat FOMO by encouraging the balanced use of social media. This study highlights the need to promote digital literacy and awareness programs among young adults to counter the psychological burden of excessive social media engagement. Future research should explore longitudinal and cross-cultural perspectives to enhance understanding of these dynamics

    Get PDF
The purpose of this research was to shed light on the widespread issue of contractual workers\u27 rights violations within garment factories across Pakistan, particularly focusing on monetary and non-monetary benefits, minimum wage adherence, and instances of "working off the clock." Employing a secondary data approach, the study analyses unpublished and confidential audit reports from various textile factories in Karachi, Lahore, and Faisalabad. These audits, conducted in 2017 by third-party entities, provide a quantitative basis for examining the relationship between contract employment and labour rights violations. A sample of 191 textile factories was selected using convenience sampling, with statistical analysis performed using IBM SPSS Statistics 20 software. The results underscore a significant relationship between the hiring of contract workers and the failure to provide monetary and non-monetary benefits, as well as a pronounced link with the practice of working off the clock. However, the study did not find a significant association between contract employment and the failure to pay minimum wages. These findings indicate a pressing need for stringent regulatory oversight and the implementation of comprehensive policies to curb labour rights violations in Pakistan\u27s textile industry, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding worker rights in the face of contractual employment practices

    Get PDF
Postcolonial complexity of thought is an integral discourse in Pakistani writers’ works. Tanveer Anjum is a contemporary Pakistani Urdu poetess and her poetry is perceptive of personal, social and political concerns of modern times. In a postcolonial country, the colonial past is never detached from the common consciousness and the unending imperialism and post war traumas are part of its subjects’ collective memories. Five poems are selected from her recent collection of Urdu poetry, Nai Zaban kay Huroof (Alphabet of a New Language) for the postcolonial analysis. The poems are: ‘Interview’, ‘There Was a Village’, ‘The Last Nail’, ‘Sister Caroline’s Dappled Cats’ and ‘Like Sunbeams’. The research is qualitative in nature and the theories of Edward Said and Homi K. Bhabha are used for the textual analysis of the selected poems. The analysis reveals a parallel structure of thoughts in her poems which at one side endorses the need of cultural resistance and on the other, calls for a negotiation, which further affirms the complexities of postcolonial thought process

Does Consumer Attitude Mediate the Linkages of Environmental Irresponsibility and Consumer Retaliation Within the Pakistan?

    Get PDF
This study examines the role of consumer attitudes as a mediator in the context of Nestlé\u27s Pure Life brand under allegations of illegal mining and environmental irresponsibility. It duly remarks upon a significant lacuna in research regarding Pakistani context-specific retaliation from consumers. The data of the study were gathered from 234 consumers in Lahore. The study employs descriptive, correlation, and regression analyses using SPSS 23.0 to assess the relationship between corporate environmental practices and consumer responses. Findings of this study reveal that while consumers exhibit a negative attitude toward Nestlé\u27s environmental practices, this sentiment does not directly translate into retaliatory actions against the brand. The absence of a direct correlation between corporate irresponsibility and consumer retaliation raises critical questions about the effectiveness of consumer attitudes in influencing corporate accountability. This research underscores the need for further exploration of the dynamics between consumer perceptions and corporate behaviour, particularly in developing markets facing environmental challenges

The interdependence appertaining to critical thinking and active participation of students in classrooms is a hallmark of 21st-century modern pedagogies. This research, as a case study of public schools in Karachi, has explored teachers’ perceptions, engagement, and cultivation of critical thinking skills, as well as the possible challenges encountered by teachers in fostering critical thinking through active participation. The research utilized qualitative data gathered through interview guides administered to teachers of a public school in Karachi. To validate research, FGD was also conducted with 6 teachers of the same school. The findings of the research indicate the reasons for the lack of active participation and cultivation of critical thinking among students. Parental involvement, lack of resources, language barrier, lack of continuous professional development (CPD), Negligence of Government in providing resources and poor educational policies are the themes that emerged from interviews. This research is significant in exploring the hindrances in the implementation of modern pedagogies that can pave the way for global discourses. Moreover, by exploring teachers’ perceptions, this study triggers an investigation of students\u27 and parents’ perceptions regarding active participation in classes and accepting modern pedagogies
