    The Impact of Higher Education Quality on Student’s Satisfaction: Empirical Evidence from P.R. China

    The objective of this paper is to evaluate the students‟ satisfaction with higher education quality with respect to the environment and services of Chinese institutions. Satisfied students can be the axis of innovation and growth of the country. This study is based on data collected from 587 questionnaires and analyzed through SPSS. By using multiple regression analysis, results guide to know which factor is playing how many roles in the prediction of students‟ satisfaction. This work revealed helpful findings and showed that there is a positive relationship between higher education quality and students‟ satisfaction. It can be used to know how to improve the higher education quality so that the students of these institutions can play well in the market

    The effect of climate change on economic growth: evidence from Pakistan

    This study is a contribution to empirics of climate change and economic growth in Pakistan. This study considered annual data from 1980 to 2013. This study intends to use the gross domestic product (GDP) per capita in current US Dollars. The proxy used for investment is gross fixed capital formation (GFCF). The data of GFCF is in a total amount in US Dollars. The TRADE data is in total trade in one year as a percentage of GDP. The data of CO2 is in total carbon dioxide emissions (kt). We performed an autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) bound testing design to measure the long-run as well as the short-run association of climate change with economic growth. The notable finding suggests that CO2 significantly affects economic growth. In addition, economic growth is also significantly affected by temperature. Such results highlight that CO2 and TEMP adversely affect the economic growth of Pakistan. There is a positive but minimal impact of RAIN on the economic growth of Pakistan. The notable finding suggests that CO2 which was significantly negative in long run has an insignificant effect in a short run of Pakistan. However, the coefficient of CO2is still negative in the short run

    Column bioleaching of sandstone type uranium ore deposit

    Column bioleaching has been performed on sandstone-type uranium ore. The column is initially leached with H2SO4 to make the environment acidic and feasible for Thiobacillus ferroxidase bacteria growth. The column later injected with acid solution containing 6g/L H2SO4, iron source 1.5g/L (Fe3+ 0.75g/L, Fe2+ 0.75g/L) and bacteria. The leaching results show that the uranium concentration increases rapidly to a maximum value of 445mg/L and later decreases and reduced to the minimum value. Fe3+ and Fe2+ curves show that initially, Fe2+ concentration rises to indicate uranium oxidation. Later raise of Fe3+ concentration shows that bacteria growing within column causing oxidation of Fe2+ ions. Flow rate decreases from 6.35ml/hr to 5.37ml/hr at the start of the test but later enhances to 8.50ml/hr. The recovery curve shows that the total uranium recovered in this test is 83%. Maximum recovery attained within 90 hours which later changes slightly

    Hazardous Impacts of Pesticide Usage on Farmer’s Health in Cotton Growing Region of District Muzaffargarh, Pakistan

    Pesticides are the chemicals used to control the crop harms by killing the pests causing various diseases in crop plants, thereby playing vital role in yield and crop production. The ingredients of these chemical pesticides are not only lethal to target arthropods but also for human beings. Therefore, the aim of present study was to find out the perception about the impacts of various pesticide usage on the health of cotton growing farmers in rural areas of District Muzaffargarh, Pakistan. Three villages were selected purposively and 130 farmers were approached to perform a questionnaire via face to face interview. Our findings revealed that a major proportion of the respondents (56.9%) were agreed that pesticides cause illness in cotton growing farmers. The results showed the perceptions of respondents that pesticides were responsible to cause various diseases to a great extent in farmers, like increase in headache (48.5%), fatigue (40.0%), insomnia (45.4%), dizziness (37.7%), hand tremors (42.3%), skin disorders (46.9%), birth defects (36.2%), damage of liver (37.7%), damage of kidney (43.8%), respiratory problems (56.9%) and cancer (29.2%). Our results showed non-significant association between age and impacts of pesticide usage on cotton growing farmer’s health. It was illustrated that health issues were significantly correlated with education, income, lack of awareness, lack of precautionary measures and lack of facilities or personal protective equipment (PPE).There is need to implement risk reduction strategies and to arrange formal training sessions to address the proper use and storage of pesticides

    Comparison of Uranium Extraction by Bio-product of 3 Bacteria Strains Isolated from Shihongtan Uranium Deposite, Xinjiang, China

    It is well known that bacteria produce short-chain organic acids and element-specific ligands (siderophores) that are able to change pH and enhance chelation, which results in increased mobilization of uranium. This research work represents the extraction of Uranium by Siderophores (bio-products) producing microbial species Myroides Odoratimimus, Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, and Pseudomonas Fluorescens were incubated in a chemically defined medium supplemented with uranium ore. Batch leaching tests were performed in neutral conditions for 7 days. With Myroides Odoratimimus, uranium was leached out in test about 20 mg/L, with Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, it was about 12 mg/L and with Pseudomonas Fluorescens it was about 10 mg/L. Uranium extraction with Myroides odoratimimus was higher as compared to others was due to the production of greater siderophores as compared to the other two strains. This comparative study showed that the strain produced greater siderophores production leached out more uranium as compared to other strains. For future suggestions, better siderophores producing bacterial strains may be used at an industrial scale to extract heavy metals like uranium

    Exploring experiences of women with disabilities living in inclusive communities of Mutorashanga, Mashonaland West Province in Zimbabwe

    The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of women with disabilities living in an inclusive community setting in Mutorashanga, Mashonaland West province in Zimbabwe. An inclusive community setting is one that aims to remove exclusionary practices within the community system and promote community systems that accept all people irrespective of their difference. Inclusive community practices on their own are not uniquely designed for people with disabilities, but they have been adopted by most developing countries as a basic strategy to influence and enhance social acceptance and personal growth among people with disabilities. A constructivist lived experience perspective underpinned this research, in which multiple case studies were used to interact with the participants on inclusion and their experience living in an inclusive community setting. Ten participants (all women) were purposively sampled. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews and transcribed verbatim. Four themes emerged from the inductive thematic analysis of data sources. It was found that participants were exposed to negative attitudes from their families and communities. The participants also indicated they were facing serious disability-related challenges and were living in abject poverty and lacked useful education. The findings of this study have the potential for the inclusive communities‟ policymakers and researchers to better understand experiences of women with disabilities living in an inclusive community setting

    Empirical Analysis on the Impact of Working Capital Management on EPS: A Panel Observation on the Cement Companies in Bangladesh

    Working Capital Management which includes managing short-term assets and liabilities has a significant impact on a firm’s performance. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of working capital management on the earnings per share (EPS) of the cement companies in Bangladesh. The authors used the secondary data collected from annual reports of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) listed cement companies over the period of 2009-2015. The study used cash conversion cycle as a proxy for Working Capital Management and used the panel data regression technique. The empirical evidence shows that there is an insignificant negative impact of the cash conversion cycle on earnings per share of the cement companies. Size (natural log of assets) and leverage (TD/TA) of the sample firms during the period also have an insignificant negative impact on EPS

    Empirical Analysis of the Impact of Foreign Private Investment on Capital Formation in Nigeria

    The study empirically determines and explores the economic impact of foreign private investment on the economic growth and development of Nigeria over the period under study which is between 1980 and 2015. Unit root test was conducted based on ADF and PP technique, and all the variables were found to be stationary at level. Johansen co integration test was also employed to check the long run relationship among the variables of study, the result reveal the existence of long run equilibrium. Short run relation was also examined using ECM technique, result confirm a short run relation among the variables. OLS method was employed to estimate the parameters of the model. Empirical result from revealed that, Foreign Private Investment (FPI) has a negative and significant effect on capital formation in Nigeria. Therefore we can reliably conclude that foreign private investment impacted negatively on the domestic capital formation in Nigeria within the period under study (1980-2015). We therefore recommend that; government should take good measures to control inflation. Additionally adequate efforts should be made to mobilize desired gross national savings which would be big enough to attract direct foreign private investment. And finally efforts should be made by government to reduce exchange rate distortions and or misalignment, increase export of locally manufactured goods and raw materials in a bid to raise value of the local currency, the naira; earn more foreign exchange and allow market forces to properly fix the exchange rate

    Analysis of Pakistan and China’s Trade Development under the Conception of "China - Pakistan Economic Corridor"

    This paper conducts a comprehensive analysis of the evolving trade dynamics between Pakistan and China, focusing on the transformative impact of the "China-Pakistan Economic Corridor" (CPEC). Through empirical investigations into the complementarity and competitiveness of commodity trade, the study elucidates key patterns that shape the bilateral economic relationship. The classification of goods underscores a substantial degree of complementarity, with China emerging as a specialized exporter of transport equipment, mechanical and electrical products, wood, paper, stone pottery, optical instruments, and more to Pakistan. In return, Pakistan specializes in exporting living animals and their products to China, establishing a robust and mutually beneficial complementarity. However, a structural disparity is observed in the trade patterns, where China predominantly exports industrial manufactures to Pakistan, while Pakistan's exports to China are centered on primary products. Despite this dissimilarity, the Sino-Pakistani trade landscape remains highly complementary. The study identifies ten categories of Chinese goods, including leather products, textiles, and base metals, which exhibit significant competitiveness in the Pakistani market. Conversely, Pakistan competes strongly in China with items such as live animals, plant products, and textiles. Within these categories, the paper notes that competition in certain industries, such as leather products and textiles, is characterized by the coexistence of different products with currently moderate competitive performance. Furthermore, the relatively small contribution of specific commodities to bilateral trade results in an overall weak competitiveness between the two nations. In conclusion, this analysis sheds light on the strengths and weaknesses of Pakistan and China's bilateral trade, emphasizing the role of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor as a transformative force. The study anticipates that ongoing investments in CPEC, particularly in China's infrastructure and energy sectors, will contribute to the expansion of domestic demand in Pakistan, fostering a conducive market environment for sustained and long-term cooperation between the two nations

    Assessment of heavy metal contamination in groundwater of Agbor, Ika south l. G. A., delta state, Nigeria

    Heavy Metal Contamination of groundwater is an issue of deep concern worldwide and as such the degree to which these metals have contaminated the most valuable fresh water resource “GROUNDWATER” must be summarily understood. 10 Borehole water samples were taken from various parts of Agbor and analysis were carried out for the major anions and cations with Arsenic been the heavy metal of interest. Upon comparison with NIS and WHO standards for drinking water, the results shows that though they were measurable concentration of Arsenic in three locations but they were high enough to pose threat to human health. Nonetheless, the results were subjected to Statistical Analysis using Principal component Analysis (PCA) to standardized data sets. The results gotten was tied to graphical methods, Stiff plot and Piper diagram to obtain the water type as Ca2+-Mg2+-Cl- - SO42- and revealed the dominant ions. PCA revealed that five components control the hydrochemistry of the study area.Ammonium,Nitrate,Phosphate and TDS dominated component 1 which accounted for 41.1%,Chloride, sulphate and EC are parameters in component 2, component 3 hasCalcium, Magnesium and Bicarbonates, component 4 isdominated bypH and component 5 holds potassium and sodium accountable for hydrochemical variation. United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA 2012) and EU 1998 Standards were compared with parameters to ascertain the quality of the water for domestic use. pH had a value less than 6.5 for most of the sampled locations and these were out of range of US United States Environmentaal Protection Agency (EPA) and European Union Drinking Water Directives(EU DWD) standard
