Growth And Haematological Parameters of Japanese Quails (Corturnix Cortunix Japonica) Fed Dried Corn Silk Polyalthia Longifolia Leaf Meal Mixture
A study was conducted to assess the growth and haematological parameters of japanese quails (corturnix cortunix japonica) fed dried corn silk- polyalthia longifolia leaf meal mixture. One hundred and eighty (one week) old Japanese quails were used for this study. Experimental animals which weighed between 18.03 and 18.16 grams were allotted to four dietary treatments of forty five quails per group in a completely randomized design. The basal feed was formulated to meet the nutritional requirement of quails according to NRC (1994). Four treatments groups had diets containing PLCSM at 0, 5, 10 and 15% dietary inclusion levels. Feed and water were provided ad libitum throughout the experimental period which lasted for 7 weeks The performance criteria were initial live weight, final live weight, total feed intake, feed conversion ratio, daily water intake and mortality while the blood profile includes the hematological. All the hematological parameters evaluated: Pack cell volume (PCV), Haemoglobin (Hb), White blood cell (WBC), Red blood cell (RBC), Mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration (MCHC), Mean corpuscular volume (MCV), Mean corpuscular haemoglobin (MCH) were significantly(P<0.05) affected by the inclusion of PLCSM. Significant influences were also observed for final live weight, feed intake, daily weight gain, feed conversion ratio, daily water consumption and mortality rate. The results of this experiment demonstrated that the inclusion of PLCSM up to 15% has no deleterious effect on the performance and health status of quailscn.bing.co
Factorially Derived Cultural Factors of Gaborone Senior Secondary School Students and Mathematics Performance
More work has been done to try and explain why some students tend to perform better than others. The degeneration of students’ performance not only in mathematics but across most subjects in Botswana has been an issue to most stakeholders for quite several years till today.Mathematics performance is closely associated with the scientific and technological innovations worldwide. Countless factors have been analyzed to explain why some students attain higher levels of academic achievement than other students. The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which cultural factors like gender stereotype, cultural values and language barrier predict the student performance in Mathematics in senior schools in Gaborone, Botswana. Stratified random sampling was used to get a sample size of 300 from senior schools in Gaborone. The inferential survey study used a questionnaire as the main instrument for data collection”. The validity as well as the reliability was assured where the reliability index for the independent variables come out to be all more than 70. Informed consent, confidentiality, privacy were assured to the respondents. Statistical Packages for Social Sciences was used in analyzing data. The results from hierarchical sequential regression showed that gender stereotype was a poor predictor. Cultural values and language barrier significantly predicted Mathematics performance even though it was at a low strength. Based on these results, appropriate discussions and recommendations were made
Promoting Vertical Greening in High-rise Residential Buildings within Urban Areas
Same as many urban cites, Hong Kong is a densely populated area. To improve the residential environment, increase greenery coverage is a viable and economical solution. Despite the widespread interest in the application of vertical greenery, little application has been observed in residential developments in Hong Kong. Most research in vertical greenery focuses on the benefits and technical issues of the system. This study aims to identify the effective strategies to foster vertical greenery implementation in Hong Kong. A questionnaire survey was conducted with 60 architectural practices. Survey results indicate that the industry agrees on the benefits of vertical greening. While the high initial and maintenance cost was identified as a major obstacle to green wall implementation, several public policies were suggested to promote vertical greenery, including financial support from the government for the installation, provision of gross floor area concession, mandatory green wall installation in new buildings and funding support in related researches. The study contributes to a relatively sparse body of literature by investigating possible strategies to foster vertical greenery in an urban city. The findings shed light on the underlying problems and provide ideas on the promotion of vertical greening in Hong Kong and other urban areas
Synergistic of Solenostemonmonostachyus and Ocimumgratissium for the Management of type -2 -diabetes
The efficacy of synergistics of Solenostemonmonstachyus and Ocimumgratissimumfor the management of type -2 –diabetes using Zebra fishwas investigated. The plants were dried at room temperature, grounded and the powder pooled together, homogenized and extracted for 7 hours using the Soxhlet apparatus. A total of 75 zebra fish were used and were divided into five groups of five juveniles per test concentration in three replicates. Group A was given de-chlorinated water; B was treated with 0.25mg/L diazinon only while other groups were exposed to the same concentration as in group B, but with different concentrations of the plant’s extract. Group C, D, and E received 250, 500, and 750mg/L respectively. Water quality parameters and blood chemistry were estimated in the experimental and control fish on days 7, 14, 21, and 28th. All the blood parameters were significant P less than 0.05 affected by diazinon when compared with the control. But were reversible in the plant extract mixture treated fish and were dose and time-dependent reduction, even less than the control group. This finding had shown the efficacy of these plants’ extract and the use of zebrafish as a toxicological tool. Thus, the thorough study of these plants' mixture is indispensable, so as to find a lasting solution to the ailment that has been given people a nightmare
