Get PDFAs in the materialist turn in recent philosophical discourse, cinema too has revealed traces of a renewed appreciation for depicting matter. In a coincidental move, artists and filmmakers across the globe have given matter centre stage and revised representational tactics by allowing materiality to become the main subject in front of the camera. This of course does not imply an erasure of the human figure from the script at all times but redirects the camera’s gaze and proposes a shift in film’s leading protagonists, calling into question the depiction of other-than-human ontologies and a new imagination of the posthuman condition. As one is increasingly haunted by the confluence of virtual and technospheric agents put forward by the era of the Anthropocene, while living under climatic distress, this puts into question how material narratives are taking place and shaping human agency today
Construção moderna para uma congregação do século XX: o Mosteiro de Santa Maria do Mar das Beneditinas da Rainha dos Apóstolos
Get PDFThe project of the Monastery of Santa Maria do Mar (Sassoeiros) was carried out, from 1958, by the architects Nuno Teotónio Pereira (1922-2016), Nuno Portas (b.1934), Pedro Vieira de Almeida (1933-2011) with the collaboration of the landscape architect Júlio Moreira (b. 1930), for the religious congregation of the Benedictine Sisters of the Queen of Apostles. Nuno Teotónio Pereira\u27s dialogue with the Benedictine sisters resulted in an exceptional functional architectural programme, which started with a preliminary study prepared as a "guide" (1958-1959) for the elaboration of the project, and developed into an architectural project carried out by six hands. Set in the context of the movement for the renewal of religious art - Movimento de Renovação da Arte Religiosa (1954-69) -, the Monastery of Santa Maria do Mar is a modern monastery to which we attribute heritage value, because it reflects the history of religious architecture and religious congregations in Portugal in the 20th century and attests to the spirit of dialogue between the Benedictine nuns and Nuno Teotónio Pereira\u27s studio.O projeto do Mosteiro de Santa Maria do Mar (Sassoeiros) foi realizado, a partir de 1958, pelos arquitetos Nuno Teotónio Pereira (1922-2016), Nuno Portas (n.1934), Pedro Vieira de Almeida (1933-2011) e com a colaboração do paisagista Júlio Moreira (n. 1930), para a congregação religiosa das Irmãs Beneditinas da Rainha dos Apóstolos. O diálogo de Nuno Teotónio Pereira com as irmãs beneditinas, resultou num programa arquitetónico funcional de exceção, que parte do estudo prévio elaborado como um “guião” (1958-1959) para a elaboração do projeto, e se desenvolve para um projeto de arquitetura realizado a seis mãos. Inserido no contexto do Movimento de Renovação da Arte Religiosa (1954-69), o Mosteiro de Santa Maria do Mar é um mosteiro moderno ao qual atribuímos valor patrimonial, porque traduz a história da arquitetura religiosa e das congregações religiosas em Portugal no século XX e atesta o espírito de diálogo entre as Beneditinas e o atelier de Nuno Teotónio Pereira
