Re-envisioning criteria for documentation of plaster artist models in museum collections
Get PDFIn the nineteenth century, plaster artist models were an intermediary step in the sculpting process. Since they feature complex methods of construction, a variety of materials, and were used in different ways, the classification and documentation of these objects in museum collections is often complicated. This paper proposes criteria to use in the study of plaster artist models, developed in the context of an ongoing research project about the Swiss sculptor Vincenzo Vela (1820-1891). The method presented here allows models to be considered within a suitable historical and technical context, reflecting their material and physical characteristics, as well as their role and importance in the sculpting proces
Pedagogia social na formação de professores: o social e o educativo
Get PDFSocial Pedagogy, as an area that interconnects the social and the educational, has stood out as a pedagogical approach focused on inclusion and social development and is fundamental to facing contemporary educational challenges. This study aims to analyse the importance of Social Pedagogy in teacher training, highlighting its origins, theoretical conceptions and the various pedagogical interventions that can be applied to the current educational context. The aim is to understand ‘how Social Pedagogy, through its intersection between the social and the educational, can contribute to teacher training and the promotion of an inclusive and socially transformative education?’. Through a qualitative approach, classical and contemporary studies on Social Pedagogy will be analyzed, focusing on their relevance for the development of educational practices aimed at inclusion and equity. The research explores how this approach broadens the role of the teacher, enabling them to deal with the social, cultural and educational diversities present in classrooms and communities. The results indicate that incorporating Social Pedagogy into teacher training favours awareness of social issues, trains professionals who are better prepared to deal with diversity and strengthens the school’s role as an agent of social transformation.A Pedagogia Social, como área de interligação, tem-se destacado como uma abordagem pedagógica focada na inclusão e no desenvolvimento social, sendo fundamental para enfrentar os desafios educacionais contemporâneos. Este estudo tem como objetivo analisar a importância da Pedagogia Social na formação de professores, destacando as suas origens, conceções teóricas e as diversas intervenções pedagógicas que podem ser aplicadas ao contexto educacional atual. Assume-se, assim, o propósito de perceber “de que forma a Pedagogia Social, através da sua interseção entre o social e o educativo, pode contribuir para a formação de professores e a promoção de uma educação inclusiva e socialmente transformadora”. Através de uma abordagem qualitativa, serão analisados estudos clássicos e contemporâneos sobre Pedagogia Social, com foco na sua relevância para o desenvolvimento de práticas educativas voltadas para a inclusão e a equidade. A pesquisa explora como essa abordagem amplia o papel do professor, capacitando-o para lidar com as diversidades sociais, culturais e educacionais presentes nas salas de aula e nas comunidades. Os resultados indicam que a incorporação da Pedagogia Social na formação de professores favorece a consciencialização sobre questões sociais, forma profissionais mais preparados para lidar com a diversidade e fortalece o papel da escola como agente de transformação social

No full textThis paper outlines a technological exploration on the capacity of listening to the revolutionary ethnomusicology archive collected by Michel Giacometti during the 1960’s until the early ‘80’s. I address the political dimensions of the concepts of culture and memory in Portuguese history at the outset of Estado Novo’s authoritarian regime and examples of European literature that express a compatible worldview. Its effects on folklore and traditional music have become diffuse over time as representations and modes of performance are appropriated or replaced. Ann Rigney’s cultural memory model and Stuart Hall’s “Encoding/Decoding” media communication model describe processes of the formation of memory and ambivalent aspects of power in media. The text presents the findings of the exploratory project O Grupo do Leão: Explorando a Inclusão das Pessoas com Deficiência Visual em Museus Através de Uma Experiência Virtual Imersiva, developed at the Museu de Arte Contemporânea do Lisboa (Portugal) between November 2022 and February 2023. The methodology, objectives, procedures/materials used, and conclusions obtained from the interviews with the participants are detailed, focusing on the integration of the sense of touch as an effective museographic strategy for visitors who are blind and partially sighted

Marinetti passionately extols the virtues of speed, technology, and the aestheticization of war, while Benjamin counters with his critique of the aesthetization of politics. Simondon interjects axiomatizing techno-aesthetic, proposing that technology and aesthetics are intertwined in a way that transcends mere functionality—it engages perception, performativity, pleasure, and knowledge. As they partake in this cut-conversation, the complexities of modernity are revealed, where the intersections of aesthetics, technology, and politics shape our understanding of the world. Get PDFThis essay examines Dominique White\u27s recent solo exhibition at Whitechapel Gallery, exploring how her sculptures evoke histories of transatlantic slavery and colonial systems, and the enduring impacts of displacement. Drawing from afrofuturism and hydrarchy, White\u27s works transform iron, ropes, and driftwood into haunting forms that resemble the wreckage of ships and the skeletal remnants of maritime violence. Central to the exhibition Deadweight is the interplay between materiality and memory, effectuated in the act of immersing her sculptures in the Mediterranean Sea, allowing salted water to erode and "cleanse" their surfaces, fleshing out layers of history, trauma, and renewal. The works presented confronted viewers with their imposing presence, balancing destruction and transformation, all while configuring a poetic reimagining of the historical entanglements between the century-old European capitalist project and its lasting repercussions on peoples from the African continent envisioning an "alternative future" forged from the remnants of the devastation of our colonial past

Due to information technologies, decision makers can have access to information at the same time as it is introduced into programs, as is the case with SAP.A Contabilidade tem-se revelado uma área complementar à área da Gestão, uma vez que a mesma pode identificar através de diversos instrumentos se a Empresa irá progredir ou não. Tendo por base uma extensa revisão de literatura dar-se-á resposta ao objetivo principal – perceber a importância da Contabilidade para a Gestão. O método de recolha dos dados escolhido, entrevistas, foi o que se revelou mais pertinente. Os dados recolhidos, foram sujeitos a uma análise de conteúdo com o auxílio do software MAXQDA. The International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea and the request for an advisory opinion on climate change and its effects: potential challenges and opportunities
Get PDFOn 12 December 2022, the Commission of Small Island States on Climate Change and International Law submitted a request for an Advisory Opinion to the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS). The Commission asked the ITLOS to clarify what are the obligations of States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) concerning pollution, as well as to preserve the marine environment, in relation to the effects of climate change. With this advisory opinion come challenges, yet some opportunities. The ITLOS will likely need to establish its jurisdictional basis to receive advisory opinions, as well as interpretational issues concerning the application of other rules of international law not incompatible with the UNCLOS. Yet, the advisory opinion presents opportunities to bring climate change issues closer to the Tribunal
Singularidades de um feiticeiro dissimulado: o fingimento e os sortilegia de Francisco Barbosa (1608–1610)
Get PDFAccused of possessing a book of witchcraft, Francisco Barbosa was found to be under slight suspicion of heresy and abjured de levi on January 16, 1610. The sentence of the Inquisition comprised the burning of the book, a five-year exile to Brazil, catechesis, and some spiritual penances. This article is a micro-history of Francisco Barbosa’s trial in the Inquisition of Lisbon between 1608 and 1610. Its main goal is to reconstruct the biography of a seventeenth-century sorcerer from the unusual perspective of dissimulation. Taking into account Barbosa’s book of sorceries, this article also intends to inaugurate a broader reflection on the compilation of incantations as a counterpoint to the pious practice of collecting biblical and patristic citations in commonplaces, through the introduction of the concept of sortilegia.Acusado de possuir um livro de feitiçarias, Francisco Barbosa abjurou de leve suspeita na fé no dia 16 de Janeiro de 1610. A pena da Inquisição determinava a queima do livro, o degredo para o Brasil, a instrução na fé e o cumprimento de penitências espirituais. Inserindo-se na corrente da micro-história, este artigo foca-se na análise do julgamento de Francisco Barbosa, na Inquisição de Lisboa, entre 1608 e 1610. O principal objectivo deste texto é reconstruir a biografia de um feiticeiro seiscentista a partir de uma perspectiva pouco habitual: a dissimulação. Tomando como ponto de partida o livro de feitiçarias, este artigo pretende ainda suscitar uma reflexão mais abrangente sobre a compilação de encantamentos como contraponto à prática piedosa de coligir citações bíblicas e patrísticas em lugares-comuns, através da introdução do conceito de sortilegia
