Motivational Effect of The Design of The Coursebook “Scope” On University Students: A Case Study in Tishk International University Language Preparatory School
English coursebooks have been the most basic sources of English teaching in the modern age. There are a number of reasons that make these books so popular. First of all, the processes that start with the determination of the students’ levels continue with the preparation and presentation of materials suitable for their level. In addition, because the methodology and strategy that will be useful to teachers are presented in a certain way in the textbooks, they are very attractive for everyone. However, there are also criticisms of the textbooks. The effect of presenting the same design in all the units of the book “Scope”, which is discussed in this study, on the students is handled. Besides being educational and informative, this design has been found to be boring after a while for the students

Justification of Parental Violence – A Cross country Analysis Evidence from World Values Survey- Variances based on Gender, Age and Education
Every society experiences violence in some way or other. Domestic violence is one of the most common and neglected violence. Research proves that domestic violence has significant short- and long-term impacts on children’s physical, emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and social developmental processes. Some international studies have shown that 80-90% of children around the world have been physically punished within the family. In this regard, the researchers aim to explore to what extent parental violence is justified across nations around the world, taking the data from the seventh wave of values survey conducted from 2017 to 2021 in around 59 countries. The research also aims to explore the variance based on gender, age, and education as moderators. SPSS version 26 was used to analyze the data. Mean values, Mann – Whitney U Test and Kruskal Wallis test were the tools used to explore the variance based on gender, age and education. Among the 86,820 total respondents from 59 countries, 41,245 were male respondents and 45,575 were female respondents. The major finding includes there is statistically significant variance exists between male and female respondents as well as different age groups and education levels of the respondents. There was an inverse relationship between age group and education level with the justification of violence. The analysis findings demonstrates the importance of education in reducing the justification of parental violence, highlighting the potential for educational programs to change attitudes toward parenting practices. The findings of this study have significant implications for promoting positive parenting practices and reducing violence against children globally. The research has implications for some policy-making through recommendations

Students’ Opinions about English-medium Instruction: A Case Study at Tishk International University
English-medium instruction (EMI) has recently become very popular all over the world. Especially the rapid spread of globalization and the increase in the need for communication have brought English to the forefront as the language of communication. In order to meet this need, educational institutions in many countries, especially at the university level, choose English as the medium language of education. Although this situation is quite attractive, it also renders some problems. The English level of the students who want to study at any English-medium university must be at an academic level because the language of the courses is quite different from everyday English. This leaves some negative effects on students. In addition, there are other difficulties. In this study, students at Tishk International University in Erbil, which provides education in English, were used. Students were asked about the difficulties of English-medium instruction. According to the results obtained from the survey, a significant number of the students have different difficulties. This study draws attention to the different dimensions of these difficulties
The Effect of the El Nino Southern Oscillation on Precipitation Extremes in the Hindu Kush Mountains Range
The El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) phenomenon is devastating as it negatively impacts global climatic conditions, which can cause extreme events, including floods and droughts, which are harmful to the region’s economy. Pakistan is also considered one of the climate change hotspot regions in the world. Therefore, the present study investigates the effect of the ENSO on extreme precipitation events across the Upper Indus Basin. We examined the connections between 11 extreme precipitation indices (EPIs) and two ENSO indicators, the Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) and the Oceanic Niño Index (ONI). This analysis covers both annual and seasonal scales and spans the period from 1971 to 2019. Statistical tests (i.e., Mann–Kendall (MK) and Innovative Trend Analysis (ITA)) were used to observe the variations in the EPIs. The results revealed that the number of Consecutive Dry Days (CDDs) is increasing more than Consecutive Wet Days (CWDs); overall, the EPIs exhibited increasing trends, except for the Rx1 (max. 1-day precipitation) and Rx5 (max. 5-day precipitation) indices. The ENSO indicator ONI is a temperature-related ENSO index. The results further showed that the CDD value has a significant positive correlation with the SOI for most of the UIB (Upper Indus Basin) region, whereas for the CWD value, high elevated stations gave a positive relationship. A significant negative relationship was observed for the lower portion of the UIB. The Rx1 and Rx5 indices were observed to have a negative relationship with the SOI, indicating that El Nino causes heavy rainfall. The R95p (very wet days) and R99p (extreme wet days) indices were observed to have significant negative trends in most of the UIB. In contrast, high elevated stations depicted a significant positive relationship that indicates they are affected by La Nina conditions. The PRCPTOT index exhibited a negative relationship with the SOI, revealing that the El Nino phase causes wet conditions in the UIB. The ONI gave a significant positive relationship for the UIB region, reinforcing the idea that both indices exhibit more precipitation during El Nino. The above observations imply that while policies are being developed to cope with climate change impacts, the effects of the ENSO should also be considered
Abraham Maslow’s hierarchical needs in No Friend but the Mountains: Writing from Manus Prison by Behrouz Boochani
The paper attempted to analyze the character of Boochani in his memoir No Friend but the Mountains: Writing from Manus Prison, in the light of Abraham Maslow’s Theory of Hierarchical Needs. Boochani wrote his novel while he was still locked in the Manus Island detention center. It narrates the story of a man who followed his dream to reach his dreamland. The study was carried out using a descriptive qualitative research methodology through textual analysis design. Since the study was text-based, a meticulous reading process of the text was done. We used the text as the primary source for data collection. Therefore, a portion of the sentences, paragraphs, and phrases related to the study’s objective were taken as examples and excerpts and analyzed using Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. The results revealed that Boochani, like all humans, was driven by physiological and psychological needs, ranging from the most fundamental to the most extreme. His journey aimed to get self-actualization but never could get it and hardly fulfilled other basic needs completely. Boochani’s voyage is depicted as a series of rising and falling waves. He occasionally satisfies some needs, but he never succeeds in meeting the need for self-actualization and self-esteem. And hardly does he fulfill the other three levels of the hierarchy of needs. His entire story serves as a metaphor for everyone who strives for self-actualization yet encounters obstacles
