The Inner Horizon : Pregnancy As a Mystical Border Experience

    No full text

“A Fatally Flawed System” : A critical investigation of the 2021 cases on the American Death Row where 11 people were executed

    No full text
The death penalty in the US has long been characterized by racist prejudices and mistakes. Previous research suggests that the majority of those executed are intellectually disabled people, black people and the poor. Furthermore, innocent people are too often convicted and executed, those with intellectual disabilities lack adequate protection in the legal process and racism is an inherent part of the criminal justice system. This essay investigates which of the 11 American people, executed in 2021, were particularly exposed or vulnerable to the death penalty from an intersectional perspective. It captures patterns regarding the defendants' identity markers and the discrimination, human rights violations or constitutional violations that occurred in the cases and legal processes, according to the defendants' legal teams. The material consists mainly of legal documents and the research questions are answered through a qualitative text analysis, with Intersectionality and Critical Race Theory as the theoretical framework.  The research show that ten out of 11 cases were problematic or indicated ambiguities. Black people, intellectually disabled people and the poor continue to be discriminated against. Several of the defendants with intellectual disabilities would not be eligible for the death penalty today. In conclusion, black poor men with intellectual disabilities and a history of abuse, along with poor women with mental health issues, intellectual disabilities and a history of abuse, were particularly vulnerable to the criminal justice system, because of the multifaceted discrimination they were exposed to.

From the pearly gates to Kent. : Psalm and profane music at funerals.

    No full text
The essay is written within systematic theology, with the aim of comparing hymns and profane music at funeral rituals in the Church of Sweden. Over a longer period of time, the funeral rite has become more and more individualistic, with more personal elements. From photos of the deceased, relatives giving speeches and to the funeral being broadcast digitally. The question concerned within this essay tackles whether hymns and profane music are competitors or whether they should coexist with each other. The essay is based on people's needs, experience and the music's message. Based on four questions; How is grief and death described in the text? How is hope and life described? How is transcendence described? And how do the texts relate to pastoral care and the beliefs and teachings of the Church of Sweden? A comparative study has been made between three hymns and three profane songs.  In the essay it appears that the selected pieces of music answer these questions on their own basis and could be put against each other to answer whether hymn and profane music are competitors or complements. An answer that is both yes and no,profane music cannot replace hymns, but it is a personal complement that can help in the work of mourning.

    No full text
This bachelor thesis in human rights aims to critically study the human rights of the muslim minority in Sweden and the possible limitations of the swedish minority politics. With the Sweden Democrats’s (SD) bigger influence in swedish politics today, an increased xenophobia is a fact, which leads to a risk of a society where islamophobic ideas can grow. Through a case study, muslims’ requirements that their basic human rights are guaranteed, will be discussed, to examine limitations in the swedish multicultural society. With the perspecitve of Iris MarionYoung’s “five faces of oppression”, muslims’ situation will be analyzed, through a variety of material. Universal rights, group rights, integration politics and freedom of religion are parts of the analysis. International critique concerning Sweden’s lack of equality statistics and Sweden’s responsability to guarantee minority groups their rights will also be discussed. A need to strengthen the human rights for muslims in general is emphazised in the conclusion, with suggestions for further research

Theology of Hope(lessness) : Constructing a Theological Understanding of Hopelessness and Searching for Theological Resources Relevant to Facing Hopelessness Experienced Due to Eco-Anxiety

    No full text
This thesis aims to construct a theological understanding of hopelessness, as well as to explore what theological resources could be relevant in confronting and handling hopelessness that is endured due to the current day experience of eco-anxiety. Throughout the study hopelessness is viewed as a personal dysphoric state, as well as an individual's part in a collective response to an unjust system. This is an assumption which differs from traditional theology of hope, as hopelessness becomes not only a personal failing, but also a consequence of a failing society. Further, hope is theorized to be a concept that is available in two different forms labeled as naive hope and complex hope. Naive hope being a hope that is solely a belief, while complex hope is a hope that has further grounds, such as empirical, ontological or rational ones, upon which it stands. As such, the theological resources considered in the study are such that might aid in building a complex hope for those suffering from hopelessness, due to eco-anxiety.  The material being analysed in the study is divided into the four theological themes of “The Cross”, “Holy Saturday”, “Eschatology” and “Apocalypticism”. These themes present different theological concepts that have been viewed as hopeful, or theologies of hope, in some contexts. A literary analysis is conducted on the material presented within these themes, in the search for theological resources relevant to facing and handling hopelessness. The material is not necessarily harmonious and, as such, presents different aspects of each theme that may, or may not, be considered a resource in accordance with the aim and theory of the study. Theological resources for hopelessness found within the material are summarized at the end of each chapter and are collectively contemplated in the discussion of the study. The thesis discussion also consists of an evaluation of the validity in the concepts of naive hope and complex hope as well as the theological concept of hopelessness constructed, in accordance with the findings of the analyses.

    Et brutalt virkelighedsmøde

    No full text
A study among novice clergy shows that for some the encounter with local congregations in the Church of Norway has been quite demanding in that they have experienced a mismatch between the content and emphasis of their training and their everyday tasks. From a practical theological perspective, and drawing on knowledge and practice theory, the article discusses how this problem can be interpreted. It is argued that rather than being a matter of insufficient knowledge resources, this indicates a normative discrepancy between the theological and liturgical ideals that the novice pastor brings from his/her training, and local congregational traditions. Finally, there is a discussion of how the training can deal with this challenge

Change in image of God by difficult life events : Reflections on change and meanings based on a survey of pastors and priests

    No full text
