Futility or the Freedom of Glory : An Analysis of Romans 8:18-30 Using Conceptual Metaphor and Blending Theory
The purpose of this thesis is to analyse Romans 8:18-30 in the light of cognitive metaphor and blending theory to explore how Paul's use of metaphors related to slavery and adoption can be understood. Furthermore, to analyse how the use of metaphor in Romans 8:18-30 relates to the earlier verses in the chapter, and how an ancient audience might have understood the theological message of the verses examined
Sex Trafficking and Prostitution in Thailand : A Feminist Critique of the Legal Framework
This research aim was to investigate any gap in the international and national legal framework regarding sex trafficking and prostitution, as well as to identify areas for improvement to better protect victims. The research took on a feminist perspective to critique these laws and used Thailand's national framework for further research on how anti-trafficking and prostitution work on a national level. The feminist views come from feminist legal theory as well as radical feminism. Feminist theories are combined with existing literature, along with a qualitative method, legal analysis, and feminist legal method for examining legal frameworks addressing sex trafficking to find gaps in the field. Thailand was chosen due to it being a country with high problems with sex trafficking and prostitution. Thailand has also tried to combat these problems by implementing laws such as the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act 2008 as well as The Prevention and Suppression of Prostitution Act 1996. Thailand has also signed The Protocol to Prevent, Suppress, and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children which was relevant to this thesis. In summary, legal feminists and radical feminists share many important perspectives about the gaps and improvements that need to be made in the international and legal framework concerning prostitution and sex trafficking. Some of the gaps are that laws fail to address the root causes of prostitution and sex trafficking, struggles with interpretation, and criticism like MacKinnon's claim that laws are fundamentally gendered and cannot be neutralized. furthermore, Thailand's anti-trafficking laws fail to recognize prostitution as trafficking, which criminalizes women in the industry. Rather than handling the demand side (those who pay for sex) the emphasis frequently tends toward prosecuting traffickers, while failing to address enough protection for victims. solutions for the gaps partly involve guidelines for Thailand's officers to easily identify victims.
「空気を読む」- Reading the air : A study on the relationship between Japan’s overtime work culture and universal human rights
This thesis interacts with the cultural values and societal expectations behind Japan’s overtime work ethic, and attempts to examine whether a universal human rights perspective can interact with the deeply rooted Japanese cultures and values. This is done with the help of previously conducted research and semi-structured interviews, which then allows for a better understanding of why overtime work is deeply rooted within Japanese culture, and why the application of human rights due diligence at the workplace is difficult to obtain. A qualitative study of semi-structured interviews has been conducted with 12 ethnic Japanese participants. The findings showed several connections between the participant’s answers, such as overtime work being an unwritten rule, and an expectation as a service to the society, to the previously conducted research. Although overtime work may change and differ in ratio depending on which company you are working for, it still is prevalent within Japanese society as a norm.Whether this is a human rights concern was debatable, since some participants argued it to be a vital part of the Japanese commitment to society, while other participants believed that it becomes problematic when personal choice and opinions are shunned or overlooked. These in turn result in other consequences such as depression, isolation, and even death. The thesis concludes that universal human rights values may not always go hand in hand with cultural values, but may allow new light to be shed on a contested phenomenon

MARTIN LUTHER; THE FIRST QUEERTHEOLOGIAN OF THE WORLD? : A study of the queertheological perspective and Martin Luther´s pastoral theology.
Contemporary pastoral care appears to both ignore queer theological advancements and to have lost its heritage in Luther`s pastoral care theology. This study aims to investigate which aspects of Lutheran theology can be denoted queer, and thereby of particular relevance for pastoral care undertaken by the Church of Sweden in today's rainbow-aware context. Thus, the study intends to contribute to deepening understanding of contemporary contextual pastoral care, by bringing together two theoretical areas, Lutheran theology and Queer theology, to inform and develop new approaches to pastoral care needs and interventions. A literature review provides the basis for theory-driven analysis that is qualitatively inductive. The main finding of this study identifies the social dimension of both approaches as being vital for contemporary pastoral care. Luther`s social theology for example emphases the social vulnerability of human beings and their experiences of oppressive social systems. This emphasis is also a driving force in Queer theology. Both perspectives also challenge us not only to actively counter experienced social inequality but also to undertake the care of those in need. The work reported in this thesis demonstrates the potential of such an approach for bringing forth certain aspects of Lutheran theology as queer, not only in a broader sense, but in particular for the development of theological and pastoral care encounters for a new era and a new societal situation involving individuals in existential crises. This study thus provides a foundation for a pastoral care that is queer-informed and importantly, thoroughly Luther
[Nation-building, nation, nationalism, and imperialism]
The article examines the phenomenon of nationalism as such and its Eastern Christian variations. In particular, two main theories of nationalism are described: modern and pre-modern. There are also two stages of the development of nationalism: emancipatory and oppressive. The former is healthier than the latter. The article focuses on the Orthodox versions of nationalism that are consistent with the traditional structure of local churches. In the Orthodox world, national individuality in combination with church locality can be either ethnic or civilizational. The former strengthens a homogeneous national identity in the Balkan style. The latter is Orthodox neo-imperialism, which is incompatible with nation-building. Their incompatibility often leads to conflicts and even wars, as in the case of Russia’s war against Ukraine
Abortion : A Practical Theological Exploration of the Voice of Women Suffering from Abortion
The National Green Tribunal of India, Environmental Justice and Human Rights in the Context of Environmental Degradation & Climate Change
This thesis examines the effectiveness of India's National Green Tribunal (NGT) in safeguarding the environment, mitigating climate change, impacting environmental justice, and protecting human rights. Using a qualitative case study approach, the research focuses on the Indian dedicated environmental court, the NGT as the primary case together with two nested case studies of an Indigenous tribe, the Idu Mishmi people of Arunachal Pradesh in addition to the Ranthambore Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan and the forest dwellers who have lived with-in the reserve's territory for generations. By analyzing the NGT's functioning, its impact on specific cases, and the experiences of affected communities, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with achieving environmental justice in India. The study also explores the interplay between environmental legislation, the role of the NGT, and NGT's contribution to India's sustainability commitments. Key findings reveal that while the NGT has played a vital role in addressing environmental issues, its effectiveness is constrained by factors such as limited resources, non-compliance with judgments, and an uneven power balance. The study highlights NGT's role in balancing development with ecological sustainability. There are also several barriers to climate justice in India, both practical and ideological challenges. Starting with the practical barriers, according to the findings of this study, the biggest obstacle to climate justice in India is not a lack of laws or court rulings, but a failure to implement them. Despite NGT’s fines and guidelines, there is often a lack of resources and incentives for companies and government agencies to comply. The study further emphasizes that regulatory agencies like state pollution control boards often lack the staff and capacity to monitor and enforce environmental laws. This undermines the possibility of achieving climate justice, as violations go undetected or unaddressed. Corporations, particularly in the energy and mining sectors, also actively oppose stricter environmental laws through lobbying, often portraying environmental protection as an obstacle to economic development and arguing that it hinders job creation and economic growth. Continuing further to the ideological barriers, there is a widespread belief, among both politicians and the public, that environmental protection conflicts with economic development. This perspective hinders progress in climate justice, as it creates a false dichotomy between economic and environmental goals. Recommendations include increasing the NGT's capacity, strengthening enforcement mechanisms, and fostering greater collaboration between the NGT, government agencies, and civil society organizations. These measures are essential for ensuring the NGT's continued effectiveness in safeguarding the environment, mitigating climate change simultaneously, and promoting environmental justice and sustainable development in India.
