The image of a man in the phraseology of selected Slavic languages
Każda społeczność, poprzez sposób postrzegania otaczającej jej rzeczywistości, konstruuje własny obraz świata, który znajduje odzwierciedlenie w języku, w szczególności w frazeologizmach i przysłowiach. Each community, through its view of the surrounding reality, creates its image of the world, which is reflected in language, more specifically in phraseologisms and proverbs. The units analysed in the article show a generalised image of men in Slavic languages, their physical appearance, external features and relations with women. Regardless of the language, the man is portrayed as the head of the family in a patriarchal model shaped by society and assumes certain characteristics and roles assumed to be typically masculine
The Critical Role of Dopamine in the Evolution of Human Intelligence and Thermal Tolerance
Modern humans are unique among anthropoids in many key features, including our advanced intelligence, large brain-body size, thermal tolerance, and endurance capability. The objective of this theoretical review is to update the theory of Previc (1999) postulating the importance of dopamine in human evolution by synthesizing newer findings concerning dopamine’s role in human intellectual and endurance capabilities. Recent evidence further supports the putative role of dopamine in advanced human intelligence (especially cognitive flexibility) and thermal tolerance and endurance. One key breakthrough is a collection of recent studies demonstrating a uniquely human dopaminergic innervation of the striatum and prefrontal cortex—both essential to human cognition. Another potentially important finding is the human-specific mutation of an enhancer to the EN1 gene that controls eccrine gland formation and plays a major role in the development of dopaminergic brain systems. A plausible evolutionary scenario is put forth in which the enhanced thermal capabilities linked to dopaminergic evolution may have gradually led to the enhanced intellects of modern humans

Activities of the Presidium of the Community National Council in Wielka Wieś (1954‒1972)
The Commune National Council in Wielka Wieś was established as a result of the administrative reform of 1954. The Commune National Council implemented its resolutions through the presidium, which was the collegial executive and management body of the national council. The commune authorities’ scope of authority included, among other things, adopting the annual commune budget, approving and dismissing village heads, organizing the purchase of livestock, grain, potatoes, and milk, and collecting taxes, as well as matters related to the organization of field work, road construction, fire protection, culture, and education. The commune’s area expanded fourfold as a result of the abolition of the surrounding communes: Górna Wola (1958), Sikucin (1959), Prusinowice (1961), and Krokocice (1968). The Chairmen of the GRN Presidium in Wielka Wieś were: Józef Szwedzki (1954–1956), Stanisław Szukalski (1956–1963), Franciszek Dzienniak (1963–1966), and Czesław Siekierski (1966–1972). The group survived until the end of 1972, when the municipal reforms replaced the district national councils with communes.Gromadzka Rada Narodowa w Wielkiej Wsi została utworzona w wyniku reformy administracyjnej w 1954 r. Zakres kompetencji władz gromady obejmował m.in. uchwalanie rocznego budżetu gromady, zatwierdzanie i odwoływanie sołtysów, organizację skupu żywca, zboża, ziemniaków, mleka oraz zbieranie podatków, sprawy związane z organizacją prac polowych, budową dróg, ochroną przeciwpożarową, kulturą i szkolnictwem. Obszar gromady powiększał się aż czterokrotnie w wyniku znoszenia okolicznych gromad: Górna Wola (1958), Sikucin (1959), Prusinowice (1961) i Krokocice (1968). Przewodniczącymi Prezydium GRN w Wielkiej Wsi byli: Józef Szwedzki (1954–1956), Stanisław Szukalski (1956–1963), Franciszek Dzienniak (1963–1966) i Czesław Siekierski (1966–1972). Gromada przetrwała do końca roku 1972, czyli do reformy gminnej, gdy gromadzkie rady narodowe zastąpiono gminami
The Sons of Atreides Cursed by Fate – A Comparison of Agamemnon and Oreste by Vittorio Alfieri and the First Volumes of the Dune Cycle by Frank Herbert as Works Inspired by the Oresteian Myth
Praca ukazuje, w jaki sposób opowieść o Orestesie i przeklętym rodzie Atrydów, znana przede wszystkim z Orestei Ajschylosa, została przekształcona i zaadaptowana do odmiennych kontekstów kulturowych, ideologicznych i literackich. This article presents a comparative analysis of two literary works that are distant in time and form – the tragedies Agamemnon and Oreste by Italian playwright Vittorio Alfieri and the first volumes of Frank Herbertʼs science fiction cycle Dune – pointing to their common roots in the Orestean myth. The work demonstrates how the story of Orestes and the cursed Atreides, known primarily from Aeschylusʼ Oresteia, has been transformed and adapted to different cultural, ideological, and literary contexts. Elements such as the motif of ancestral revenge, tragic conflict, wandering and hiding among foreign people, anagnorisis, as well as the figures of the father, mother, and siblings are analysed. Attention is paid to the educational function of the myth – ethical in the Greek version, political in Alfieri, and social and ecological in Herbert. A special place is given to the reflection on the figure of Orestes as a symbolic figure of a man entangled in inherited conflicts, whose fate reflects the anxieties and tensions of the eras just before the great change. The article also addresses the question of the genres of classical tragedy and the fantasy novel, asking whether both forms can be understood as contemporary realizations of the functions of myth and tragedy. It also points to the profound potential of mythology as a tool for critical reflection on the condition of individuals and society
The Experience of Everyday Life Alongside Virtual Companions. A Case Study of Human-Chatbot Encounters
This article a nalyses i nteractions between a human and a virtual entity, namely, a chatbot. These encounters are considered in the context of cyberspace, understood as a specific social interactional space. They are also examined in the context of an individual’s experiences, which are intertwined with ongoing social and cultural changes. This text engages with research on chatbots, complementing their findings with an in-depth study of the user perspective. The analysis is based on data from an in-depth interview with Laura, conducted as part of a research project on human interactions and relationships with chatbots. The case study of Laura’s experiences explores her perception of interacting with a chatbot, focusing on the meanings humans assign to such interactions, concerning the interviewee’s emic perspective. The article examines how a human interlocutor perceives chatbots and the role they can play in an individual’s life. In addition, the reflection in the text touches on the theme of humans seeing themselves in the responses of a chatbot, which lacks self-awareness and cannot understand the content it produces in the same way a human can. The article deepens understanding of chatbots as everyday companions, virtual friends, and social actors, encounters with whom are part of today’s reality
Evaluation of regional logistics performance for land freight along the developmental Syrian axis: Tartous – AlFarqulus
The study developed a spatial Decision Support System (DSS) to assess the impact of land freight logistics on regional development and create an evaluation map in a GIS environment. By designing a tri-level conceptual framework and applying the Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP), real stakeholders were involved at each evaluation level according to their roles. The system was integrated into GIS for final analysis and applied to the developmental Syrian axis of Tartous–Homs–Al-Farqulus using 2018 data. The results highlighted the importance of the relationships between evaluation criteria in identifying the role of freight logistics in regional planning and achieving broader developmental outcomes
Rereading the Real, Transmitting a Legacy: François Bon and Leslie Kaplan Between Memory and History
The 1982 publication of François Bon’s Sortie d’usine and Leslie Kaplan’s L’Excès-l’usine marked a significant turning point in contemporary French literature, introducing a return to narrative based on critical writing in the form of socio-fiction. These works enable writers to focus their attention on the fractures in the modern world, without inciting the reader to take part in a protest struggle. This analysis explores how these narratives participate in the rereading of reality and the transmission of a literary and memorial legacy, inscribing working-class memory in a constant tension between history and collective memory. With this approach, Bon and Kaplan establish a singular connection to a working-class past that continues to influence contemporary writers, such as Sylvain Rossignol with Notre usine est un roman (2008) and Frédéric H. Fajardie with Métaleurop.
The Portrayal of President A. Duda’s and Prime Minister D. Tusk’s Visit to the United States on the Websites of Selected Radio Stations
In contemporary media studies, one can observe the process of mediatization of politics, which involves the mediation of mass media in reporting socially significant events. As a result, the media assign new meanings to the events they describe, which in turn shapes the media image of a given event in the audience’s mind. This article offers a media studies perspective on the portrayal of the visit of President A. Duda and Prime Minister D. Tusk to the United States in March 2024.The research material consisted of the websites of nationwide radio stations recognized by the Institute of Media Monitoring as the most influential in shaping public opinion. The selected websites were Polskie Radio 24, RMF24, TOK FM, and Radio ZET. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were applied, enabling a framing analysis of the studied content. The results of the analysis indicate that the examined websites engaged in a discourse related to the Polish delegation’s visit to the USA; however, it was marginal compared to other content published during the studied period. It was also observed that the analyzed sources partially reproduced certain materials, while the most distinctive ones were those that synthesized or transmitted interviews aired on the selected radio stations. Furthermore, it was demonstrated that the dominant frame was the “responsibility frame,” whose high frequency is associated with the political dimension of the analyzed content
