Jest nie tylko uznawany za jeden z klasyków japońskiego komiksu i animacji, ale dla wielu osób był także pierwszym kontaktem z japońską kulturą. Niewątpliwie jedną z zasług popularności tej serii jest jej lokalizacja na różne języki, przy czym adaptacja anime odgrywa główną rolę. Nie inaczej było w przypadku Macedonii Północnej, gdzie serial anime został zdubbingowany. Artykuł jest kompilacją informacji na temat tej wersji językowej, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem krótkiej analizy strategii tłumaczeniowych.“Dragon Ball” by Akira Toriyama is currently a global phenomenon. It is not only considered one of the Japanese comics and animation classics, but for many people it was also the first contact with Japanese culture. Undoubtedly, one of the merits of the series’ popularity is its localization into different languages – with the anime adaption playing the main role. It was no different in the case of North Macedonia, where the anime series were dubbed. The article is a compilation of information about this language version, with focus on brief analysis of translation strategies

No full textArtykuł omawia zapożyczenia leksykalne z języka włoskiego w polszczyźnie od XVI do XIX wieku. W pierwszej części przedstawione zostało tło historyczne kontaktów polsko-włoskich. Zwrócono uwagę na rolę królowej Bony Sforzy i wpływ jej otoczenia na popularyzację włoskiego stylu życia, a w konsekwencji języka włoskiego. Przyjrzano się czynnikom determinującym obecność Włochów w Polsce i Polaków we Włoszech. Część wstępną kończą informacje o znajomości języka włoskiego przez Polaków. Kolejne rozdziały ukazują wybrane przykłady zapożyczeń włoskich w dobie średniopolskiej (od XVI do XVIII w.) oraz w XIX wieku. Opracowanie kończy omówienie najważniejszych procesów adaptacyjnych.The article discusses lexical borrowings from Italian in the Polish language from the 16th to the 19th century. The first part presents the historical background of Polish–Italian contacts. Particular attention is paid to Queen Bona Sforza and the influence of her circle on the popularization of the Italian lifestyle and, consequently, the Italian language. The article examines the factors determining the presence of Italians in Poland and Poles in Italy. The introductory section concludes with information on the knowledge of Italian among Poles. The following chapters present selected examples of Italian borrowings in the Middle Polish period (from the 16th to the 18th century) and in the 19th century. The study concludes with a discussion of the main adaptation processes
In Search of Autonomy: Sexuality and the Promise of Liberation in Witold Gombrowicz’s Pornografia and Philip Roth’s Portnoy’s Complaint
No full textAround the launch of the Penguin series Writers from the Other Europe in 1974, Philip Roth’s novels turned to the intersections between sexuality and Jewish-American life with an increased intensity. Roth’s choice to include Witold Gombrowicz in the series invites new perspectives on the representation of collective experience and individual freedom by writers who saw their heritage not only as ill-fated but also fraught. While both authors grapple with the idea of commitment to historically disadvantaged communities, Portnoy’s Complaint and Pornografia spotlight the resistance growing in tandem with the narrators’ sexual awakening. Although writing in politically disparate contexts and almost a decade apart, Roth and Gombrowicz use the theme of sexual desire to question the impact of difficult legacies on contemporary Jewish-American and Polish life, respectively. Ultimately, the novels’ engagement with sexuality speaks to the idea of transgressing one’s foundational ties to create an autonomous self, a question relevant for both the American myth and the vexed issues of national belonging shaped by the legacy of Polish Romanticism. This article argues that Roth and Gombrowicz engage with the theme of sexual desire to create a promise of liberation, which allows them to propel the tension between the individual and the collective. Despite leading to moments of emancipation, the characters’ sexual awakening in Portnoy’s Complaint and Pornografia fails to restore their autonomy, dramatizing the novels’ images of imprisonment within the collectivity through a failed attempt to invent an autonomous self
Revisiting the 2007–2009 Financial Crisis: A Holistic Perspective
No full textThe purpose of the article. This article provides a multidimensional assessment of the wideranging impact of the 2007–2009 financial crisis, with the particular emphasis on its financial, macroeconomic, and socio-political impacts. It examines the profound disruption to the banking sector and deterioration of macroeconomic conditions, as well as the subsequent political and social consequences. The findings support the research hypothesis that a crisis-induced decline in public trust in the banks and financial sector increased skepticism towards globalization and heightened political polarization.Methodology. Adopting an interdisciplinary approach, the study employs desk research and comparative methods to examine financial, macroeconomic and socio-political perspectives over the past decade. This research provides a critical appraisal and comparative synthesis of wide range of studies on the impact of financial crisis on macroeconomic trends and public trust.Results of the research. The global financial crisis precipitated structural changes in bank regulations with tighter capital requirements and prompted a retrenchment from the socially beneficial lending. Large-scale state intervention undermined market discipline and fueled public distrust. Economically, the crisis triggered deglobalization and accelerated the relocation of production towards emerging markets. Socially, it widened inequality, eroded trust in capitalism, and energized populist and anti-establishment movements.
The Presence of the Child in Ethnographic Research Approaches: An Analysis of Materials Collected at the Institute of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology, University of Łódź
No full textThis article discusses the research attitudes towards children employed by ethnographers after the Second World War. The author distinguishes five types: the child as part of a broader research problem, as an object of research, as an active participant in research within a wider context, as a full-fledged subject of research, and as a co-participant in their own culture. The source material consists of interviews, observations and diploma theses collected over the years during fieldwork conducted by staff and students, and archived in the Bronisława Kopczyńska-Jaworska Ethnographic Archive of the Institute of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology of the University of Lodz.Niniejszy artykuł omawia stosowane przez etnografów po drugiej wojnie światowej podejścia badawcze względem dziecka. Autorka wyróżnia pięć ich typów: dziecko jako element większego problemu badawczego, jako przedmiot badań, jako aktywny uczestnik badań w szerszym kontekście badawczym, jako pełnoprawny podmiot badań oraz jako współuczestnik kultury. No full textAssessment of the Internal Consistency of Two Polish References in Detecting Short Stature and Obesity in Children and Adolescents
No full textIn paediatric practice, growth references are used by doctors and nurses to evaluate a child’s growth status. We present an assessment of the internal consistency of two Polish references in detecting short stature and obesity in children and adolescents. Key diagnostic thresholds, the 3rd percentile for height and the 95th for Body Mass Index (BMI), were selected for comparison. Percentiles were calculated for hypothetical heights 0.2 cm lower than the third percentile of specific references and 0.1 units lower than the 95th percentile of specific references, in the case of height and BMI references, respectively. The z-scores were calculated and converted to percentiles. MS Excel was used. Around the 3rd percentile of height and the 95th percentile of BMI, there is a discrepancy in the Warsaw growth reference for measured height and BMI, respectively, and the calculated percentile. In the case of the Polish 2010 and 2012 growth references, a hypothetical height 0.2 cm below the third percentile of height-for-age reference yielded percentiles below 3 for all ages in both sexes. The Polish 2010 and 2012 growth references for measurements 0.1 units below the obesity threshold yielded percentiles of 94.69–94.86 in boys and girls. The Polish 2010 and 2012 growth references provide consistent and coherent calculation results for the 3rd percentile of height and the 95th percentile of BMI for children and adolescents aged 3–18 years

Celem niniejszego tomu jest wskazanie mechanizmów wykorzystywanych w różnych obszarach miediów, służących celowemu kształtowaniu sposobu myślenia i działania odbiorców masowej komunikacji – zarówno współcześnie, jak i z perspektywy historycznej. W tomie zastosowano zróżnicowane metody badawcze z pogranicza nauk humanistycznych i społecznych, m.in. analizę zawartości i treści, studium przypadku, analizę ramowania, krytyczną analizę dyskursu oraz analizę lingwistyczną (w tym ujęcie metaoperatorów perswazyjnych) z użyciem narzędzi cyfrowych. Autorzy poszczególnych opracowań pokazują m.in. prototyp „berluskonizmu” – sprzężenie władzy, rynku i telewizji włoskiej lat 80. na tle boom economico oraz jego długofalowy wpływ na system wartości i praktyki wyborcze; analizują, jak tygodnik „Polityka” (roczniki 2006 i 2023) wykorzystuje daty historyczne jako zasób perswazyjny w relacjonowaniu konfliktu izraelsko-palestyńskiego; identyfikują dominujące metaoperatory w wystąpieniach Władimira Putina z początku inwazji na Ukrainę. Kolejne rozdziały ukazują ramowanie wizyty prezydenta Andrzeja Dudy i premiera Donalda Tuska w USA na portalach PR24, RMF24, TOK FM i Radia ZET, językowe techniki delegitymizacji społeczności LGBTQ+ na łamach „Naszego Dziennika” (2023) oraz rolę pasków informacyjnych w serwisie „Dzisiaj” Telewizji Republika jako form perswazji. Z przeprowadzonych badań wynika, że repertuar środków oddziaływania w mediach ulega ciągłym przekształceniom i dostosowuje się do zmiennych okoliczności politycznych, kulturowych i technologicznych, co wzmacnia potrzebę rozwijania kompetencji krytycznego odbioru i edukacji medialnej.The phenomena of propaganda, persuasion, and manipulation continue to exert a strong influence in the media space. The aim of this volume is to identify the mechanisms used across various areas of the media to intentionally shape the ways of thinking and acting of mass communication audiences - both in the present day and from a historical perspective. The volume employs diverse research methods from the intersection of the humanities and social sciences, including content and discourse analysis, case studies, framing analysis, critical discourse analysis, and linguistic analysis(including the framework of persuasive metaoperators) using digital tools. The authors of the individual studies present, among other topics, the prototype of “Berlusconism” – the interconnection of power, market, and Italian television in the 1980s against the background of the boom economico, as well as its long-term impact on value systems and electoral practices; they analyze how the weekly Polityka (issues from 2006 and 2023) uses historical dates as persuasive resources in its coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict; and they identify the dominant metaoperators in Vladimir Putin’s speeches from the early phase of the invasion of Ukraine. Further chapters present the framing of President Andrzej Duda’s and Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s visit to the United States on the websites of PR24, RMF24, TOK FM, and Radio ZET; the linguistic techniques of delegitimizing the LGBTQ+ community in Nasz Dziennik (2023); and the role of news tickers in Telewizja Republika’s program Dzisiaj as a form of persuasion. The conducted research shows that the repertoire of media influence techniques is constantly evolving and adapting to changing political, cultural, and technological conditions – reinforcing the need to develop critical media literacy and media education
The principle of speciality in the European Arrest Warrant – between the guarantee of protection and the risk of impunity
No full textThe article addresses the legal function of the speciality rule within extradition proceedings, with particular emphasis on the European Arrest Warrant. Its objective is to delineate the scope of limited prosecution and to identify interpretative challenges arising in judicial practice. The analysis focuses on the normative framework defining the application of the speciality rule. The authors, considering contemporary doctrinal approaches, examine the purpose and legal justification of this rule, rooted in the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms. The article initiates a broader discussion on potential reforms aimed at improving the current system of inter-state cooperation.Artykuł analizuje problematykę funkcji zasady specjalności w odniesieniu do procedury ekstradycyjnej, a w szczególności europejskiego nakazu aresztowania. Celem opracowania jest przedstawienie istoty ograniczonego ścigania oraz pokazanie problemów związanych z praktyką orzeczniczą powyższego zagadnienia. Opracowanie koncentruje się na uchwyceniu ram, które wyznaczają określony zakres oddziaływania zasady specjalności. Autorzy, uwzględniając współczesne ujęcie doktrynalne, starają się zbadać celowość powyższej zasady, która osadzona jest na gruncie przestrzegania podstawowych praw i wolności człowieka.
