Quality reviews as dialogue
No full textThis invited conference presentation reflects on the role of dialogue as the central mode of quality assurance in higher education reviews. Drawing on international experience as review chair across diverse institutions in Ireland, Europe, and beyond, the talk highlights how panels can function as “collegial but rigorous friends,” guided by ESG and QQI frameworks. Rather than aiming for polished performance, reviews should seek authentic evidence, coherence between mission, strategy, and quality processes, and sustainable growth. Case insights from recent Irish reviews point to both strengths—such as agile governance, digital infrastructures, and integrated student feedback—and areas for development, including research ambitions, governance structures, and QA-led internationalisation. Emphasis is placed on how shared values—trust, inclusivity, independence, and collaboration—provide fertile ground for open dialogue. Ultimately, quality reviews are not about perfection or compliance but about collective learning, resilience, and progress through reflective and constructive exchange
Artificial intelligence-empowered embryo selection for IVF applications
No full textIn vitro fertilization (IVF) is a well-established and efficient assisted reproductive technology (ART). However, it requires a series of costly and non-trivial procedures, and the success rate still needs improvement. Thus, increasing the success rate, simplifying the process, and reducing costs are all essential challenges of IVF. These can be addressed by integrating artificial intelligence techniques, like deep learning (DL), with several aspects of the IVF process. DL techniques can help extract important features from the data, support decision making, and perform several other tasks, as architectures can be adapted to different problems. The emergence of AI in the medical field has seen a rise in DL-supported tools for embryo selection. In this work, recent advances in the use of AI and DL-based embryo selection for IVF are reviewed. The different architectures that have been considered so far for each task are presented. Furthermore, future challenges for artificial intelligence-based ARTs are outlined
Exploring the future of file security
No full textTypically, chaos-based encryption applications are concerned with encrypting a single type of data, such as an image, text, or sound. Hence, often an encryption approach is restricted to that type of data. This paper explores the aforementioned problem and proposes a novel chaos-based encryption, which encrypts a file’s bytestream directly, rather than its content. A novel one-dimensional chaotic map is introduced and investigated, revealing regions of constant chaos with high Lyapunov exponents. Based on the novel chaotic map, a pseudorandom bit generator is developed that passes the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) statistical tests. This PRBG is used in the bytestream encryption problem by combining a permutation with an exclusive OR operation. To demonstrate the resilience of this bytestream encryption system, many tests are employed, including entropy, correlation, key space and histogram analysis, differential attack analysis, mean absolute error, and mean squared error. The algorithm is successfully tested on .png, .docx, .pdf, .mp3, .stl files

No full textBrownfields, which can be found in urban or rural areas, present both challenges and opportunities for redevelopment due to potential environmental contamination. These places hold significant promise for urban revitalization, resource conservation, economic growth, and job openings. Their complexity, however, historical issues, and environmental challenges demand innovative approaches. This literature review serves three main objectives: Firstly, it explores the relationship between Geographic Information Systems (GIS)/Internet of Things (IoT) technology and brownfield transformation. It emphasizes GIS/IoT#x2019s role in addressing environmental challenges, optimizing resource allocation, and sustainable redevelopment. Secondly, the review investigates the limitations of traditional assessment methods in brownfield rehabilitation, highlighting their inadequacy in capturing real-time environmental data. Thirdly, it offers insights into the benefits, challenges, and emerging trends for brownfield transformation, particularly focusing on GIS/IoT sensor integration. By achieving these objectives, this review contributes to the advancement of GIS/IoT technology in brownfield transformation, encouraging more effective and sustainable urban development and environmental remediation. It underlines the critical role of GIS and IoT in addressing environmental challenges while noticing traditional assessment methods#x2019limitations. It covers brownfield evolution from the late 20th century to the present, relying on a diverse range of academic sources, both historical and recent, to provide a comprehensive overview of the topic

Obleka je danes veliko več kot samo nujno oblačilo za prekrivanje telesa – spremenila se je v način izražanja stališč, razpoloženja, pripadnosti, starosti, spola, generacije in gibanj. Tako je obleka postala neločljiv del naše kulture, k čemur je prispevala tudi moda. Modo v veliki meri za nas kreirajo drugi in predlagajo, kaj naj bi nosili. In ker obleka prispeva k lastni predstavitvi, bi se radi pokazali v najboljši luči in da imamo stil. Vprašanje je, ali res imamo stil, če smo „moderno“ oblečeni?
Odgovor na to vprašanje sem poiskala v modnih časopisih, na spletnih straneh modnih blogerjev, fotografov in modnih oblikovalcev in, seveda, tistih ki so vplivali na moje fotografije.We all wear clothes because it is a part of our culture. Gone are the days when we walked around naked or draped in animal skins. Today, clothing is much more than just a necessity to cover our bodies—it has evolved into a means of expressing our attitudes, moods, affiliations, age, gender, generation, and movements. Thus, clothing has become an inseparable part of our culture, with fashion playing a significant role in this transformation. Fashion is largely dictated by others, guiding us on what to wear. Since clothing contributes to our self-presentation, we aim to showcase ourselves in the best light and exhibit a sense of style. The question is, do we truly have style if we simply follow fashion trends?
