Empowering CO2Eco-Refrigeration With Colossal Breathing-Caloric-Like Effects in MOF-508b
Financiado para publicación en acceso aberto: Universidade da Coruña/CISUG[Abstract] Today,≈20% of the electric consumption is devoted to refrigeration; while,≈50% of the final energy is dedicated to heating applications. In this scenario, many cooling devices and heat-pumps are transitioning toward the use ofCO2as an eco-friendly refrigerant, favoring carbon circular economy.Nevertheless, CO2still has some limitations, such as large operatingpressures (70–150 bar) and a critical point at 31°C, which compromisesefficiency and increases technological complexity. Very recently, an innovativebreathing-caloric mechanism in the MIL-53(Al) compound is reported, whichimplies gas adsorption under CO2pressurization boosted by structuraltransitions and which overcomes the limitations of stand-alone CO2. Here, the breathing-caloric-like effects of MOF-508b are reported, surpassing by40% those of MIL-53(Al). Moreover, the first thermometry device operating atroom temperature and under the application of only 26 bar of CO2ispresented. Under those conditions, this material presents values ofT≈30 K, reaching heating temperatures of 56°C and cooling temperatures of−10°C, which are already useful for space heating, air-conditioning, foodrefrigeration, and freezing applications. The authors are thankful for financial support from the grant PID2021-122532OB-I00 funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by ERDF A way of making Europe, the project PDC2021-121076-I00 funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/ 501100011033 and by the European Union Next GenerationEU/PRTR and the project ED431C 2022/39 funded by Xunta de Galicia. Exploring the Spanish Tourists’ Intentions to Travel to Zones That Have a Low-Impact of COVID-19 by Taking into Account Their Cognitive and Affective Risk Perceptions About the Pandemic
[Abstract]: In the current context in which tourism is beginning to recover, this study examines the worldwide trend of tourists traveling to destinations with a low impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in a country such as Spain, which is highly dependent
on tourism activity. By employing the SEM methodology and an extended theory of planned behavior (TPB), which
includes the cognitive and affective dimensions of perceived risk about the pandemic and past behavior, the results show
the positive effect that past behavior and the core variables of the TPB have on the behavioral intentions of Spanish tourists, despite the negative impact that their cognitive risk perception has on these core variables. The study’s findings have
useful practical implications for tourism authorities and stakeholders in Spain and other countries that are also highly
dependent on tourism
Efficacy of aquatic vs land-based therapy for pain management in women with fibromyalgia: a randomised controlled trial
[Abstract] Objective. To determine the efficacy of two physiotherapeutic interventions – aquatic therapy (AT) and land-based therapy (LBT) – for reducing pain in women with fibromyalgia.
Design. Single-blind, randomised controlled, equivalence trial.
Setting. Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Multiple Chemical Sensitivity Association in A Coruña, Spain.
Participants. Forty women with fibromyalgia were assigned at random in a 1:1 manner to two groups: AT (n = 20) and LBT (n = 20).
Interventions. Two therapeutic exercise programmes, with 60-min sessions, were undertaken three times per week for 12 weeks. Sessions were carried out in groups by a trained physiotherapist.
Outcome. The primary outcome was pain intensity (visual analogue scale). The secondary outcomes were pressure pain threshold (algometer), quality of life (Revised Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire), sleep quality (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index), fatigue (Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory) and physical ability (6-Minute Walk Test). Patients were evaluated at baseline, 12 weeks (post-treatment) and 18 weeks (follow-up). The statistical analysis was per-protocol. P < 0.05 was considered to indicate significance. Effect size was calculated.
Results. The mean age was 50 [standard deviation (SD) 9] years, with median body mass index of 27 [interquartile range (IQR) 25–30] kg/m2 and median symptom duration of 11 (IQR 6–15) years. No differences were observed between the groups post-treatment, but differences in favour of AT were found in pain intensity [2.7 (IQR 1.5-4.9) vs 5.5 (IQR 3.3-7.6); p= 0.023; large effect, Cohen's d= 0.8; 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.1-1.5] and sleep quality [12.0 (IQR 7.3-15.3) vs 15.0 (IQR 13.0-17.0); p= 0.030; large effect, Cohen's d= 0.8; 95% CI 0.1-1.5] at follow-up.
Conclusions. The results suggest that AT is better than LBT for reducing pain intensity and improving sleep quality after 6 weeks of follow-up. AT may be a good treatment option for women with fibromyalgia
Fatigue insights from walking tests in spinal cord injury and multiple sclerosis individuals
[Abstract] In the last decade, fatigue in clinical populations has been re-conceptualized, including dimensions such as perceived fatigue (trait and state fatigue) and fatigability. The aim of this study was to evaluate different expressions of fatigue in Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) and Multiple Sclerosis (MS) participants compared to able-bodied controls, during activities of daily living, especially during gait. A total of 67 participants were included in this study (23 with SCI, 23 with MS, and 21 able-bodied controls). All participants performed two functional tests (6-Minute Walk Test and 10-Meter Walk Test) and they completed the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS). The rate of trait fatigue was different between groups, with MS participants showing the highest rate. Moreover, scores on functional tests and state fatigue were different between groups after the tests. Our results indicate that trait fatigue and state fatigue in individuals with SCI and MS are different with respect to able-bodied population. Both SCI and MS groups experienced more trait fatigue than control group in daily life. In addition, walking tasks produced similar levels of state fatigue between healthy people and patients with MS/SCI. However, these tests induced longer-lasting levels of state fatigue in the patients. The authors thank Mrs. Fátima Villamayor Vega for her technical assistance, as well as financial support by the Project ICI20/00075, funded by Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII) and co-funded by the European Union and the Grant PID2020-117617-RB funded by MCIN/AEI/ 10.13039/501100011033.info:eu-repo/grantAgreement/ISCIII/Programa Estatal de Generación de Conocimiento y Fortalecimiento del Sistema Español de I+D+I/ICI20%2F00075/ES/EL RIMONABANT PARA LA MEJORA DE LA CAPACIDAD DE ANDAR EN LESIONADOS MEDULARESinfo:eu-repo/grantAgreement/AEI/Programa Estatal de I+D+i Orientada a los Retos de la Sociedad/PID2020-117617RB-I00/ES/SINDROME DE FATIGA POST COVID-19: ALTERACIONES DE LA EXITABILIDAD DEL SISTEMA MOTOR Y USO DEL RIMONABANT COMO TRATAMIENTO (RIMOCOVID
Analysis of Tourism Projects in Colombia and their Contribution To Reducing Income Inequality and Poverty
In recent years, tourism has demonstrated its potential to generate economic growth; however, its impact on reducing income inequality is less clear. This study examines the consensus view that the impact of tourism on income inequality depends on the country and the econometric method used to measure it. In developing countries such as Colombia, tourism development has been prioritised as a peacebuilding strategy and a way of achieving sustainable development. The collection of corporate tax from active tourism providers is overseen by the National Tourism Fund (FONTUR), which is also responsible for approving investmentof this revenue to promote tourism projects that are aligned with national tourism policy. The study uses a panel fixed effect model to measure the impact of these projects on the income inequality and poverty of 24 Colombian states between 2013 and 2019.The results show that tourism projects have a greater effect on reducing poverty and income inequality in early-stage tourism destinations, and in states which have historically been less affected by violence and poverty

Today, it is a global tourism industry that transforms nature into a tourism resource, conceives of the pursuit of the best waves as a primary travel motive, and has a direct impact on the places whereit develops. Surf tourism has also been understood as a product capable of revitalising consolidated sun and beach destinations by offering tourists a specific experience. The aim of this article is to study the development of surf tourism in the municipality of Valdoviño (A Coruña), where the sport first became established in the 1970s. The locality came to international notice in the late 1980s as a result of the Pantin Classic championship and, more recently, through the Costa das Ondas tourism initiative. The study consists of a qualitative analysis of aspects such as the sector’s evolution, endogenous resources, and characteristics of supply and demand, as well as the gents involved in the sport’s management and planning, and the role of the championship and its connection to sustainability principles. The results show that surfing has become one of the driving forces of economic growth in Valdoviño based on its potential and capacity as a specialised, sustainable form of touris
An Intelligent Regression-Based Approach for Predicting a Geothermal Heat Exchanger’s Behavior in a Bioclimatic House Context
[Abstract] Growing dependence on fossil fuels is one of the critical factors accelerating climate change, a global concern that can destabilize ecosystems and economies worldwide. In this context, renewable energy is emerging as a sustainable and environmentally responsible alternative. Among the options, geothermal energy stands out for its ability to provide heat and electricity consistently and efficiently, offering a feasible solution to reduce the carbon footprint and promote more sustainable development in a globalized economy. In this work, a machine learning approach is proposed to predict the behavior of a horizontal heat exchanger from a bioclimatic house. First, a correlation analysis was conducted for optimal feature selection. Then, several regression techniques were applied to predict the output temperature of the geothermal exchanger. Satisfactory prediction results were obtained in different scenarios over the whole dataset. Also, a significant correlation between several sensors was concluded.Xunta de Galicia; ED481A2023072Xunta de Galicia; IN853C 2022/01Xunta de Galicia; ED431B 2023/49Interreg Atlantic Area; EAPA_00192022Antonio Díaz-Longueira’s research was supported by the Xunta de Galicia (Regional Government of Galicia) through grants to Ph.D. (http://gain.xunta.gal), under the “Axudas á etapa predoutoral” grant with reference: ED481A2023072. Proposal of a New Control System Making Use of AI Tools to Predict a Ship’s Behaviour When Approaching the Synchronism Phenomenon
[Abstract] In spite of the IMO’s efforts to improve the safety of intact stability on ships, synchronous rolling still causes large rolling angles, resulting in a very dangerous situation on board. The implementation of automatic tools to predict this undesirable situation has not been widely implemented. Furthermore, the safety of ship stability is not the only responsibility of people involved in the design process, so ship operators must have enough knowledge to predict and avoid these dangerous situations well in advance. Therefore, from a theoretical point of view, in the first part, this paper aims to present a valuable guiding tool for ship operators in order to predict synchronous rolling and avoid undesirable situations on board by making use of only empirical observations of the wave profile and moments. With this purpose, mathematical models are first proposed, with the ship sailing in the worst condition, i.e., with and without considering the damping factor, at zero speed and considering the influence of any pure beam and trochoidal waves. Relevant results shown provide the exact time and wave profile at which the maximum rolling angles are reached. In the second part of the paper, a new control system making use of AI tools is proposed in order to be used by ship operators on board, avoiding dangerous situations. Finally, the results are validated using a set of ship rolling simulations for the most common and representative ship loading conditions and wave periods

Implementation of a teledermatology electronic consultation program to improve the care of patients with inflammatory bowel disease
[Abstract] Introduction: Skin lesions are a common extraintestinal manifestation associated with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), although they may also appear as a complication of IBD treatment. Prompt referral to the dermatologist can be very helpful in practice. Teledermatology complements the traditional in-person health care modality, improving access to dermatological care.
Objective: To evaluate the impact of a store-and-forward teledermatology electronic consultation (e-consult) program on the care of IBD patients.
Methods: A retrospective study assessing the outcomes of our teledermatology program over its first 2 years of implementation.
Results: A total of 39 consultations involving 33 patients (69.2% women, mean age 39.6 years [12–63]) were conducted. The mean number of teleconsultations was 2.8 per month in the initial implementation stage: 33 consultations were carried out in patients with Crohn's disease and 6 in ulcerative colitis. Only 18% of the patients had an active flare-up. The most frequent reason for the e-consult was paradoxical psoriasiform lesions (n = 13, 33.3%), commonly related with anti-tumor necrosis factor agents (70% of the patients) and hidradenitis suppurativa (n = 4, 10.3%). Resolution was achieved in 87% of patients, with a mean waiting time of 4.7 days (0–14). Almost all patients (97%) were satisfied with our program, and considered the referral through the program to be appropriate (92%). Best valued features were the reduced waiting time and the coordinated approach between the two departments involved.
Conclusions: Dermatology e-consult is an efficient and useful means of optimizing IBD patient care
