Advancing NASA-TLX: Automatic User Interaction Analysis for Workload Evaluation in XR Scenarios
Presented at: 2024 IEEE Gaming, Entertainment, and Media Conference, GEM 2024, Turin, 5 June 2024 through 7 June 2024This version of the paper has been accepted for publication.[Abstract]: Calculating the effort required to complete a task has always been somewhat difficult, as it depends on each person and becomes very subjective. For this reason, different methodologies were developed to try to standardize these procedures. This article addresses some of the problems that arise when applying NASA-Task Load Index (NASA-TLX), a methodology to calculate the mental workload of tasks performed in industrial environments. In addition, an improvement of this methodology is proposed to adapt it to the new times and to emerging Extended Reality (XR) technologies. Finally, a system is proposed for automatic collection of user performance metrics, providing an autonomous method that collects this information and does not depend on the users' willingness to fill in a feedback questionnaire. This work has been funded by grant PID2020-118857RA-100 (ORBALLO) funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by Centro Mixto de Investigación UDC-NAVANTIA (IN853C 2022/01), funded by GAIN (Xunta de Galicia) and ERDF Galicia 2021-2027.Xunta de Galicia; IN853C 2022/0

Image, anxiety and attitudes towards death before COVID-19 and three years later: A study with adolescents

influence of the pandemic and gender on death imagery, death
anxiety and attitudes towards death among a group of 319 high school adolescents. A month before the beginning of the
pandemic, tests measuring death imagery, death anxiety and
attitudes towards death were handed out to 195 participants, and 134 participants took the same tests three years later, right after the end of the pandemic. The comparison of pre- and post-pandemic scores shows no significant differences
in death imagery or death anxiety between the two. After the
pandemic, participants showed higher Approach Acceptance
(AA) and Neutral Acceptance (NA), while women were found
to experience more Fear of Death (FD) and higher Escape
Acceptance (EA) than men. Results are explained considering
