Transformation in consumption dynamics: the digital era
In this way, a mixed methodology was carried out based on surveys and interviews to analyze how young people between 18 and 30 years old interact with an emerging consumption model. This approach not only allows for the identification of general patterns in their behavior but also delves into individual perceptions of the influence of the digital environment. Therefore, the aim is to understand how social networks and marketing strategies impact their consumption decisions.Traballo fin de grao (UDC.SOC). Socioloxía. Curso 2024/202

Link to developer documentation/manual: https://github.com/UDC-GAC/BetaGPU[Abstract]: The efficient computation of Beta distribution functions, particularly the Probability Density Function (PDF) and Cumulative Distribution Function (CDF), is critical in various scientific fields, including bioinformatics and data analysis. This work presents BetaGPU, a high-performance software package written in C++ and CUDA that leverages the parallel processing capabilities of Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) to significantly accelerate these computations, with an OpenMP version for multiCPU systems, and integrated seamlessly with popular statistical programming languages R and Python. This open-source package provides an accessible, accurate, and scalable solution for researchers and practitioners. By offloading intensive calculations to the GPU, this software is significantly faster than traditional single-core CPU-based methods, facilitating faster data analysis and enabling real-time applications. The software’s high performance and ease of use make it an invaluable tool for users in bioinformatics and other data-intensive domains. This work was supported by grants TED2021-130599A-I00 and PID2022-136435NB-I00, funded by MCIN/AEI/ (TED2021 also funded by “NextGenerationEU”/PRTR and PID2022 by “ERDF A way of making Europe”, EU); grant TSI-100925-2023-1, funded by Ministry for Digital Transformation and Civil Service and Next-GenerationEU/RRF; and FPU predoctoral grant of Alejandro Fernández-Fraga ref. Better Benchmarking LLMs for Zero-Shot Dependency Parsing
Presented at: Joint 25th Nordic Conference on Computational Linguistics and 11th Baltic Conference on Human Language Technologies (NoDaLiDa/Baltic-HLT 2025), pages 121–135, March 3-4, 2025 ©2025 University of Tartu LibraryCódigo asociado: https://github.com/anaezquerro/naipar[Abstract]: While LLMs excel in zero-shot tasks, their performance in linguistic challenges like syntactic parsing has been less scrutinized. This paper studies state-of-the-art openweight LLMs on the task by comparing them to baselines that do not have access to the input sentence, including baselines that have not been used in this context such as random projective trees or optimal linear arrangements. The results show that most of the tested LLMs cannot outperform the best uninformed baselines, with only the newest and largest versions of LLaMA doing so for most languages, and still achieving rather low performance. Thus, accurate zero-shot syntactic parsing is not forthcoming with open LLMs.We acknowledge grants SCANNER-UDC (PID2020-113230RB-C21) funded by MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033; GAP (PID2022-139308OA-I00) funded by MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033/ and ERDF, EU; LATCHING (PID2023-147129OB-C21)

Economic Recession, Illicit Drug Use and the Young Population: a Systematic Literature Review and Meta-Analysis
[Abstract] Aims: Economic recessions impact on drug use through different channels, with potential conflicting outcomes. Previous studies have reached mixed outcomes, and a clear and comprehensive picture is difficult to depict.
Methods: We use a systematic review of literature – conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines – and a hierarchical mixed-effects meta-analysis to provide a comprehensive quantitative assessment of the relationship between business cycle and the use of drugs by young populations. The heterogeneity of studies was assessed by the I2 statistic, and the publication bias was evaluated with contour-enhanced funnel plots.
Results: We identify 25 studies, published over the period 2008–2020. These articles carried out an empirical analysis of the impact of the business cycle on illegal drug consumption in Organisation for Economic Co-operation Development (OECD) countries. Most of the studies (17 studies) covered the 2007 financial crisis. Among the outcomes, 9 studies traced a countercyclical relationship between economic recessions and drug use, 3 showed a procyclical relationship and 13 studies found mixed results. Unemployment was the most widely used variable to assess macroeconomic conditions in most of the studies (21 studies). The meta-analysis shows a partial correlation of .03 (95% confidence interval (CI): .0147–.0453) between the unemployment rate and drug use among young individuals. Therefore, we conclude that, on average, recessions tend to boost drug use. This impact is more marked with cannabis use than it is with cocaine, opioids or other drugs.
Conclusion: This study provides robust evidence that in periods of economic downturns, the young populations tend to increase the use of illegal drugs, with cannabis as their main preference. Therefore, in periods of economic severity, society may particularly benefit from implementing widely reaching public prevention programmes and demand reduction interventions, targeting this subgroup of the population. The author(s) disclosed receipt of the following financial support for the research, authorship and/or publication of this article: This article is part of the research involved in the project funded under the agreement no. Direct and indirect relationships between Food Parental Practices, diet quality, and food satisfaction in adolescents
[Abstract] Introduction: The relationship between four parental feeding practices from the Comprehensive Feeding Practices Questionnaire for adolescents (CFPQ-Teen) and Satisfaction With Food-related Life (SWFoL) in adolescents was evaluated using diet quality measured using the Adapted Healthy Eating Index (AHEI) as a mediating variable. Methods: Participants were 860 adolescents aged 10–16 years of both sexes who responded to four factors on the CFPQ-Teen, food satisfaction scale, and diet quality index. Structural equation analysis was used in a structural mediation model on a polychoric correlation matrix using the weighted least squares mean-variance adjusted (WLSMV) method. Results: Diet quality was a mediating factor in the interaction between two parental practices related to parental modeling and adolescent control over SWFoL. There was evidence of a direct relationship between monitoring and restrictive factors for weight control and SWFoL. Conclusions: The findings indicated that the association between parental feeding practices and food satisfaction may be direct or mediated by diet quality in adolescents. The author(s) declare financial support was received for the research, authorship, and/or publication of this article. Sponge Ctttes in China. Ecological lnfrastructure for a Resilient Future

China faces water challenges such as flooding, water scarcity, and pollution, caused by its monsoon climate, geography, and climate change. This analysis, which considers historical antecedents such as the 1931 floods, addresses current water issues and management strategies. A trip to the Asian country allowed me to learn about and question the innovative methodology of the Turenscape study, which relies on Eastern agricultural traditions based on the principies of water systems for infiltration, storage, purification, use, and drainage to design contemporary ecological infrastructure. Examples of this philosophy include the Stormwater Park in Harbin and the Houtan Park in Shanghai. Furthermore, the work establishes connections with Galicia, exploring the applicability of these principies in our region to promote sustainable urban development and a more aware society that harmonizes human activity with the environment.Traballo fin de grao (UDC.ETSA).
