    A propósito de locuciones prepositivas en la literatura medieval del siglo XIV (Libro del caballero Zifar)

    Este trabajo de fraseología histórica analiza una serie de combinaciones locucionales prepositivas de significado causal, final, temporal y local procedentes de una obra literaria representativa del siglo XIV, el Libro del caballero Zifar. El estudio de los procesos lingüísticos que han afectado a estas estructuras permitirá comprobar si se encuentran en pleno proceso de fijación gramatical y léxica en este siglo o, por el contrario, ya se han constituido en estas tempranas fechas en locuciones prepositivas propiamente dichas, como podrían ser los casos de por culpa de, por razón de, en derredor de, a la hora de, a servicio de, en tierra de, a honra de, a pro y a honra de, en guarda de, con intención de, con voluntad de... Además, la comparación de estas estructuras con las que se hallan en las crónicas medievales y en la documentación notarial también de la Edad Media facilitará el reconocimiento de las similitudes y diferencias entre las estructuras propias de diferentes tipos textuales

    Analysis of the sexual variability in the shell of the spanish upper cretaceous turtle Dortoka Vasconica (pan-pleurodira, dortokidae)

    The present study characterizes the morphological variability related to the sexual dimorphism in the shells of the Spanish Upper Cretaceous turtle Dortoka vasconica. This study is based on the material from its type locality: Laño, Burgos. Two morphotypes were identified there based on the posterior plastral area as well as two for the anterior plastral lobe. However, a correlation with the previously indicated morphotypes could not be established due to the disarticulation of the specimens and the limited information available on the sexual dimorphism of Pleurodira. The morphological variability previously identified for Dortoka vasconica is analysed here through a quantitative approach to evaluate the role that sexual dimorphism plays in the plastron. Comparative material of the main extinct and extant groups of pleurodires is included in this study. The results evidenced a noticeable sexual dimorphism in the anal notch of Dortoka vasconica. Likewise, the comparison of species belonging to several pleurodiran clades shows a wide range of variability in the direction and magnitude of the sexual dimorphism. Thus, a single evolutionary trend cannot be recognized, so that previous assumptions about which morphotype corresponds to each sexual dimorph in some extinct taxa and especially lineages (including basal pan-pleurodires) cannot be confirmed

    Nut1/Hos1 and Sas2/Rpd3 control the H3 acetylation of two different sets of osmotic stress-induced genes

    Epigenetic information is able to interact with the cellular environment and could be especially useful for reprograming gene expression in response to a physiological perturbation. In fact the genes induced or repressed by osmotic stress undergo significant changes in terms of the levels of various histone modifications, especially in the acetylation levels of histone H3. Exposing yeast to high osmolarity results in the activation of stress-activated protein kinase Hog1, which plays a central role in gene expression control. We evaluated the connection between the presence of Hog1 and changes in histone H3 acetylation in stress-regulated genes. We found a parallel increase in the acetylation of lysines 9 and 14 of H3 in induced genes during stress, which was largely dependent on Hog1 at the genome-wide level. Conversely, we observed that acetylation decreased in repressed genes and was not dependent on Hog1. However, lack of Hog1 sometimes produced different, and even opposite, effects on the induction and acetylation of H3 of each gene. We also found that the acetylation state of lysine 9 of H3 was altered in the strains deficient in Nut1 HAT and Hos1 HDAC in the genes up-regulated during osmotic stress in an Msn2/Msn4-independent manner, while lysine 9 acetylation of H3 varied in the strains deficient in Sas2 HAT and Rpd3 HDAC for the Msn2/Msn4-dependent induced genes. The results presented here show new, unexpected participants in gene regulation processes in response to environmental perturbations

    El presente estudio se centra en el análisis inédito de dos conjuntos visua­les, resueltos mediante pintura mural en grisalla y policromía respectivamente, correspon­dientes al claustro e iglesia del convento agustino del Socorro en Ciutadella. Su datación pertenece a dos etapas diferenciadas del siglo XVIII, mientras que la identificación de las fuentes grabadas nos remite a la tradición flamenca del siglo XVI e italiana del siglo XVIII. El degradado estado de conservación y la complejidad interpretativa nos introducen en la ex­cepcionalidad de la posición internacional que Menorca desarrolló a lo largo del siglo XVIII

    Application of digital image treatment to the characterization and differentiation of deep-sea ichnofacies

    The ichnofacies model proposed by Seilacher in the 1960’s stands as one of the main tools used in the ichnological research. Based on the integration of numerous ichnological and sedimentological observations, it entails a precise characterization of the trace fossil assemblage. Differentiation of trace fossils may be relatively easy in outcrops, but cores are a different matter, particularly modern marine cores. Difficulties are even more accentuated in deep-sea pelagic and hemipelagic, non-turbiditic, fine-grained deposits. The application of digital image treatment can facilitate trace fossil identification and improve deep-sea ichnofacies characterization on modern cores. The method proposed here was applied to cores from the IODP Expedition 339 (Site U1285). Eight ichnotaxa – Chondrites, Palaeophycus, Phycosiphon, Planolites, Taenidium, Thalassinoides, Thalassinoides-like structures and Zoophycos – as well as some horizontal grouped circular structures interpreted as trails (?Nereites) were recognized. The archetypical Zoophycos ichnofacies is identified, but characteristic elements belonging to the Nereites ichnofacies and to the distal expression of Cruziana ichnofacies are locally recognized. Thus, the applied methodology allows differentiating between different expressions of the Zoophycos ichnofacies and to approach subtle changes in the involved environmental parameters affecting tracemaker

    En este artículo analizamos los relatos de Luisa Carnés, quien parte al exilio como consecuencia de la Guerra Civil. La separación de su hogar da como resultado la representación de una serie de temas en su narrativa breve escrita desde México que suponen, por una parte, la continuación de aquellos iniciados en España desde una perspectiva distinta y, por otra parte, la aceptación de los temas prototípicos de la cultura de acogida. Así, el exilio marca la identidad de la escritora, que se ve escindida entre el recuerdo de su hogar y la adaptación al país que la acoge

    El artículo recoge la experiencia de una acción de innovación docente asociada a la elaboración de recursos audiovisuales para la asignatura “Nuevos materiales, soportes y poéticas pictóricas”, que impartimos en el Máster en Producción y gestión artística de la Universidad de Murcia. Su justificación se debe a la escasez de investigaciones en la que se aborde el uso de nuevos materiales pictóricos adaptados a pautas científicas útiles en la enseñanza universitaria de bellas artes, donde precisamos de una renovada y continua experimentación, de productos nuevos de los que desconocemos su potencial artístico. Esta experiencia nos ha permitido dar visibilidad a investigaciones relevantes realizadas en el seno de la asignatura, donde el material finalmente publicado ha sido revisado por docentes y estudiantes manteniendo una serie de pautas donde confluye la metodología cuantitativa como prueba-error, y aspectos de metodología cualitativa en la que el sujeto participante aporta un nuevo valor simbólico, expresivo y artístico a los materiales. Consideramos que el desarrollo y posterior publicación de material audiovisual como resumen de la sistematización de los ensayos plásticos realizados, hace más eficiente los procesos de enseñanza-aprendizaje. La voluntad de que los contenidos de esas investigaciones se publiquen en abierto en el Canal TV UMU, además de generar motivación y auto-exigencia entre docentes y estudiante, facilita posibles colaboraciones con otros investigadores, así como con fabricantes y distribuidores de nuevos productos artísticos

    Amorphous surface modification and scalability of WO₃ nanostructures for photoelectrocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants

    This work explores the use of WO₃ nanostructures as an effective solution for the removal of emerging contaminants from water, specifically focusing on the degradation of diethyl phthalate (DEP), a widely recognized environmental pollutant. A key aspect of the study is the scaling of the electrochemically active area and surface modification of WO₃ nanostructures, progressing from 0.5 cm² to 2.5 cm², followed by a surface reduction treatment that induces amorphization and enhances their photoelectrocatalytic activity after applying a 5-minute reduction treatment. Scaling was further extended to 15 cm², with the 15 cm² nanostructures exhibiting the highest DEP degradation rate, achieving a degradation constant of 0.0988 h⁻¹. The study also investigates the effect of key operational parameters such as applied voltage (1 V and 1.5 V), contaminant concentration (10 ppm, 25 ppm and 100 ppm). Reusability was also tested, with optimal conditions identified as 10 ppm DEP, 1 V, and the ability to reuse the nanostructures up to three times. Finally, under these optimal conditions, the degradation of DEP was monitored, leading to the identification of ten intermediate products and the proposal of a degradation pathway, highlighting the potential of WO₃ for sustainable and efficient water treatment applications

    Phenomenology of the generalised scotogenic model with fermionic dark matter

    We study a simple extension of the Standard Model that accounts for neutrino masses and dark matter. The Standard Model is augmented by two Higgs doublets and one Dirac singlet fermion, all charged under a new dark global symmetry. It is a generalised version of the Scotogenic Model with Dirac fermion dark matter. Masses for two neutrinos are generated radiatively at one-loop level. We study the case where the singlet fermion constitutes the dark matter of the Universe. We study in depth the phenomenology of the model, in particular the complementarity between dark matter direct detection and charged lepton flavour violation observables. Due to the strong limits from the latter, dark matter annihilations are suppressed and the relic abundance is set by coannihilations with (and annihilations of) the new scalars if the latter and the Dirac fermion are sufficiently degenerate in mass. We discuss how different ratios of charged lepton flavour violating processes can be used to test the model. We also discuss the detection prospects of the charged scalars at colliders. In some cases these leave ionising tracks and in others have prompt decays, depending on the flavour in the final state and neutrino mass orderings

    Effectiveness of virtual reality-based neuropsychological interventions in improving cognitive functioning in patients with mild cognitive impairment: A systematic review and meta-analysis

    Objective: Increased prevalence of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) has led to a need for new neuropsychological intervention tools in this population. This meta-analysis aimed to learn about the efficacy of virtual reality (VR)-based neuropsychological interventions in improving cognitive functioning in patients with MCI. Method: This review followed the recommendations of the PRISMA statement, and it was registered in PROSPERO. The studies examined were collected from the PsycINFO, Web of Science, Pubmed/MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus, and Cochrane Library databases. Results: The systematic search yielded 258 articles, of which 13 randomized controlled trials were selected. VR-based neuropsychological interventions had moderate effects on global cognition (g = 0.30; 95% CI = 0.05, 0.56; p = 0.02), small effects on attention (g = 0.27; 95% CI = 0.04, 0.49; p = 0.02), and large effects on executive function (g = 0.60; 95% CI = 0.38, 0.81; p < 0.0001), but non-significant effects on working memory, episodic memory, language, or visuoconstruction. When the length of the intervention was considered, VR-based interventions of 15 or more hours had moderate effects on working memory (g = 0.55; 95% CI = 0.11, 0.99; p = 0.01), and large effects on language (g = 0.60; 95% CI = 0.01, 1.20; p = 0.05) and visuoconstruction (g = 1.13; 95% CI = 0.58, 1.67; p < 0.0001). Conclusions: Results suggest that VR-based interventions are beneficial for improving cognitive functioning in patients with MCI, and allow us to make recommendations that could have implications for clinical decision-making in this population
