Fixed point methods and accretivity for perturbed nonlinear equations in Banach spaces

    No full text
In this paper we use fixed point theorems to guarantee the existence of solutions for inclusions of the form Au + λu + Fu ∋ g, where A is a quasi-m-accretive operator defined in a Banach space, λ > 0, and the nonlinear perturbation F satisfies some suit- able conditions. We apply the obtained results, among other things, to guarantee the existence of solutions of boundary value problems of the type −∆ρ(u(x)) + λu(x) + Fu(x) = g(x), x ∈ Ω, and ρ(u) = 0 on ∂Ω, where the Laplace operator ∆ should be understood in the sense of distributions over Ω and to study the existence and uniqueness of solution for a nonlinear boundary value problem derived from a model introduced by Lebowitz and Robinow (1974) describing a proliferation cell population

    No full text
The activity of the editor Mariano Cabrerizo illuminates the itinerary of the novel and the bourgeoisie. Effects of Cognitive and Mental Health Factors on the Outcomes Following Carpal Tunnel Release: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

    No full text
Objective:To determine the effects of the cognitive and mental health factors on the outcomes after carpal tunnel release (CTR). Data Sources:Embase, PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials databases from inception to August 14, 2021. Study Selection:Randomized controlled trials and observational studies of patients with CTR were included. The included studies aimed to determine the effect of the cognitive (catastrophic thinking, kinesiophobia, self-efficacy) or mental health factors (symptoms of anxiety and depression) on the outcomes at least 3 months post CTR. Data Extraction:Two independent reviewers performed data extraction and assessed the risk of bias. Data were extracted using a standardized protocol and reporting forms. The risk of bias of the included studies was assessed using the Quality in Prognosis Studies risk-of-bias tool. Random-effects models were used for meta-analysis. Data Synthesis:A total of 15 studies involving 2599 patients were included in this systematic review. The majority of studies indicate a significant association between the cognitive or mental health factors and outcomes after CTR. Quantitative analysis showed a moderate association of symptoms of depression on symptom severity (n=531; r=0.347; 95% CI, 0.205-0.475; P≤.0001), function (n=386; r=0.307; 95% CI, 0.132-0.464; P=.0008), and pain (n=344; r=0.431; 95% CI, 0.286-0.558; P≤.0001). In general, the risk of bias in the included studies was low. Conclusions:This systematic review and meta-analysis showed that symptoms of depression have a moderate association with symptom severity, function, and pain after CTR. Symptoms of anxiety, catastrophic thinking, and self-efficacy are also important indicators of poor postsurgery outcomes. Physicians, physical therapists, and occupational therapists should consider evaluating these variables in patients undergoing CTR

    No full text

Soundscape Evaluation of a Heritage Event in an Open Environment: The Water Tribunal of the Plain of Valencia (Spain)

    No full text
The acoustic evaluation of indoor environments is common in the application of virtual acoustics. In addition, in the study of cultural heritage buildings, it is a useful tool, but it is not so common when describing the acoustic environment in intangible cultural heritage events and even in outdoor environments. In this paper, the acoustic environment of the Water Tribunal of the Plain of Valencia (Spain) is studied. It is analyzed from a soundscape perspective, characterizing the sound source and evaluating it within relation to the environment and evaluating its subjective response. With the research carried out, it has been obtained, on the one hand, a complete study of the acoustics of the environment of the Water Tribunal and, on the other, an enhancement of the Valencian tangible and intangible heritage

Severe and moderate hemophilia A: identification of 38 new genetic alterations

    No full text
Hemophilia A is an X-linked recessive disorder caused by a lack or decrease of factor VIII activity. Its socio-economic impact is high given its high bleeding expression and treatment cost. Our aim was to establish the mutation of each patient to improve family management. A total of 116 unrelated families with severe and moderate hemophilia A were involved. Non-carriers of intron 22 and intron 1 rearrangements were included in F8 gene screening. Intron 1 and 22 inversion frequencies were 3% and 52.5% respectively. Putative mutations were identified in all the families; 38 were new. The cumulative inhibitor incidence was 22%. Approximately half the families carry nonrecurrent mutations, which were unique in around one third. Harmful effects for mutations predicting null alleles are expected. Missense mutation consequences are not easily predictable, despite the help of some bio-informatics tools

Aim: To recognize, appraise and summarize the research evidence that has explored the results of pelvic floor muscle training on female sexual function.Design: Systematic review and possible meta-analysis.Methodology: Between September and October 2022, the Cochrane Library, CINAHL, MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO and Scopus electronic databases will be searched. We will include RCT's in English, Spanish and Portuguese that investigate the results of pelvic floor muscle training on female sexual function. The data will be extracted by two researchers independently. Risk of bias will be measured from the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool. The meta-analysis of the results will be performed using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis Version 2.Results: This systematic review and possible meta-analysis will contribute signifi-cantly to the promotion of pelvic floor health and women's sexual function and to strengthen clinical practice and define other areas of study

Raw material, gestures, artefacts. An approach to the work of bone and ivory in the Iron Age in the Iberian peninsula

    No full text
This paper seeks to give visibility to the industry of hard materials with animal origin that is documented during the Iron Age in the Iberian peninsula. We focus on the analysis of three common artefacts within the bone and ivory industry in the Iberian culture (between the 6th to the 1st Century BC): pins, perforated plates and combs. We have studied these objects from a technological point of view, thanks to a series of experimental work carried out in order to meet different operational chains, necessary to manufacture each one of these items and tools that could be used for this purpose. So, we searched the archaeological tool models to work bone and ivory, and whenever it has been possible, we have reproduced them. We have paid special attention to the results that may be obtained with different tools, gestures made, different time and effort employed according to the raw material, the tool made and the importance of the 'hands' that lie behind the objects, thus considering the role of the craftsman who carried out each one of these works. The questions raised in this research are: Is the manufacture of this type of pieces a specialized work, or anyone with access to the right tools could do it? Did it all depend on the raw materials employed? Were there local workshops on equipment manufacture with bone, antler and ivory? This is a necessary study that focuses on analysis of pieces omitted by the archaeological research and, moreover, approaching its study not from a descriptive or typological point of view, but focusing on the manufacturing and operational chains processes, giving special importance to the role of the craftsmanship behind these objects. For all of this, experimentation has provided us with essential information that should be properly contrasted with the archaeological record

La Educación Plástica, Visual y Audiovisual en el currículo español de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria. Estudio comparado entre comunidades autónomas

    No full text

Recidivism risk reduction assessment in batterer intervention programs: A key indicator for program efficacy evaluation

    No full text
The evidence available on the efficacy of batterer intervention programs is still limited. The aim of the present study is twofold: (1) to analyze change in a set of intervention targets and their association with reconviction in a batterer intervention program implemented in Spain, and (2) to analyze pre-treatment participants' characteristics linked with an increased likelihood of change. The research design was a prospective longitudinal study with measures obtained in two points in time (pre-treatment and post treatment).Self-report measures, trained program staff assessment, and reconviction official records were used. Participants consisted of 212 offenders participating in a court-mandated batterer intervention program. A significant gain in three intervention targets (responsibility assumption, perceived severity of intimate partner violence against women, and recidivism risk reduction) was found. Recidivism risk reduction gain score was the best success indicator. It significantly predicted reconviction with the highest effect size. A structural equation model showed that recidivism risk reduction was significantly predicted by pre-treatment offenders' anger control, impulsivity, social support, alcohol consumption, and offense seriousness. Participants changed in the intervention targets analyzed and risk of recidivism reduction played a central role in the prediction of reconviction. Keywords: Program evaluation, Intimate partner violence against women, Intimate partner violence offenders, Risk of recidivis
