Distal supports, capabilities, and growth‐focused recovery: A comparison of Housing First and the staircase continuum of care
Adults who have substantial histories of homelessness and complex support needs
may feel ambivalent about integrating into their communities and find it difficult
to do so. Being familiar to and recognized by others as a resident in a
neighborhood or community are sources of “distal support” that provide
individuals with feelings of belonging to their community and are important to
recovery from homelessness. We hypothesized that individuals engaged with
Housing First (HF) programs would report more distal support than individuals
engaged with traditional homeless services (treatment as usual, TAU), and that
distal support would predict more community integration, growth‐related
recovery, and achieved capabilities. We analyzed data collected from homeless
services users (n = 445) engaged with either HF or TAU in eight European
countries. Measures included achieved capabilities, growth‐focused recovery,
distal supports, and community integration. Serial mediation analyses confirmed
our hypothesis that the effects of HF on growth‐related recovery and achieved
capabilities are indirect, mediated by distal supports and community integration.
Findings are discussed in relation to the importance of modeling the effects of HF
on social and psychological outcomes as indirect and identifying important
mediators that translate the effects of HF components on social and
psychological outcomes. We also note the importance of case management
activities that encourage clients to develop and sustain distal supports with others
who live and work in their neighborhoods.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Effect of online Kundalini Yoga mental health of university students during Covid-19 pandemic: A randomized controlled trial
University students were at an increased risk for psychological distress during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Using a randomized controlled trial, we examined the efficacy of an online Kundalini Yoga intervention
on students’ psychological functioning. Healthy university students (N=106) were randomly assigned to a
Kundalini Yoga group, an active control group, or a passive control group in a 1:1:1 ratio. The experimental
group attended six Yoga sessions over 6weeks and the active control group attended to six autogenic
relaxation sessions over 6weeks. All participants completed the study protocol, which involved answering
questionnaires related to psychological distress, emotion regulation, self-compassion, self-concept, spiritual
well-being, and subjective happiness at three different time points: baseline, at the end of the intervention,
and at 1-month follow-up. Results showed that Yoga contributed to improving self-compassion, extrinsic
affect improving, and personal and communal spiritual well-being, in comparison to the control groupsinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Perceptions of LIS professionals on ACRL Framework: Understanding and fostering concepts, skills and attitudes in academic students
The recently translated Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education is generating considerable interest among Portuguese professionals. As pedagogical approaches and constructivist learning gain prominence, librarians are recognizing the crucial role they play in facilitating research skills, employing diverse pedagogical methods, and fostering information literacy as essential elements of education. This study, conducted as part of a national project focused on information literacy for academic students, aims to analyze Portuguese librarians' perceptions regarding the translated Framework. Through an extensive literature review and an online survey, the initial findings indicate that librarians possess a basic understanding of the topic while demonstrating a strong commitment to acting. Building upon the translated Framework, pedagogical materials and training opportunities have been introduced. As information literacy programs continue to be integrated, implemented, and evaluated in libraries and academic curricula, the Framework serves as a valuable reference document for information professionals and educators, offering inspiration and guidance.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
e o desempenho académico do aluno.
dimensão parental.ABSTRACT: Parenting has a strong impact on young people, including the development of self-regulatory
learning skills. For this to happen effectively, Self-Determination Theory reveals that autonomypromoting parenting practices are necessary. Therefore, this study, using a dimensional approach,
sought to (1) explore the relationships between students' perceptions of parenting educational
styles (psychological autonomy, positive interactional climate, and knowledge) and their selfregulatory learning strategies (cognitive/metacognitive, behavioral, and motivational) in
Mathematics; and (2) analyse how parenting educational styles are characterized and differentiated
according to gender, year of schooling and student academic performance. To this end, in this
quantitative, comparative, and correlational study, the revised Parenting Educational Styles
Questionnaire (QEE-r), the Cognitive and Metacognitive Self-Regulation Scale, the Behavioural
Self-Regulation Scale, and the Motivational Self-Regulation Scale were applied to 281 students
between the 6th and 9th-grade from a private school. The study revealed that young people
perceive parenting educational styles differently for their father and mother, that there is an effect
of gender, year of schooling, and academic performance on how young people perceive their
parents' educational styles, and also a positive correlation was found between the parenting
dimensions and the dimensions of self-regulation of learning, except controlled motivation, which
did not correlate with any parenting dimensio
implementar esta tecnologiaABSTRACT: Artificial intelligence is a topic that is receiving increasing attention in the context of
organizations. Its impact can be seen at different levels, covering both the evolution of work
and the transformation of society in general. In the context of Human Resources, artificial
intelligence has the potential to transform practices, optimize processes and assist in decisionmaking, creating value not only for workers but also for organizations. However, resistance to
change, accompanied by the doubts and uncertainties associated with its adoption, are factors
that are still present, making it difficult to integrate artificial intelligence into work processes.
For this reason, and considering the growing incorporation of technologies into human
resources management, the aim of this study was to understand what intentions human
resources professionals have in using artificial intelligence in their jobs.
The research sample consisted of 123 individuals, and it was a prerequisite for
participation that they work in the Human Resources area.
In order to assess the level of adoption of AI technologies by Human Resources
professionals, this study used the scale proposed by Belanche and collaborators (2012) based
on the Technology Acceptance Model (Davis, 1989).
The results showed that the dimensions of perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use
and trust in technology positively influence the intention to adopt artificial intelligence.
This study contributes not only to the theoretical understanding of AI adoption in
Human Resources, but also offers practical insights for organizations seeking to implement this
technology
bem-estar afetivo.
afetivo.ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to investigate how the level of tenacity of an exerciser
can contribute to their performance in physical exercise. In this sense, the mediating role
of self-efficacy and affective well-being in the relationship between tenacity and
performance was also investigated.
The data was collected through an online survey completed by 212 physical
exercisers.
The results support the study's hypotheses, showing that tenacity positively
influences performance and that this relationship is mediated by self-efficacy and
affective well-being. Thus, exercisers with greater tenacity show better performance.
The results obtained contribute to a deeper understanding of the effect of tenacity
on performance in physical exercise and the psychological processes involved in this
relationship, specifically the mediation of self-efficacy and affective well-being.
However, it is not possible to generalise the results to other sporting contexts, nor infer
causal relationships, given the cross-sectional nature of the study. nature of the study.
The study revealed interesting practical implications for both physical exercise
practitioners and coaches, namely in the design and implementation of programmes to
promote individual tenacity, performance and affective well-being
Underneath the sheets: A cross-cultural cluster analysis of older adults’ patterns of aging and sexual well-being in Portugal and Mexico
This study aims to assess the patterns of life satisfaction with life (SwL), sexual
satisfaction, and adjustment to aging (AtA), of older adults in Mexico and Portugal. A sample of 658 older adults, aged 65 years-old and older, from Mexico and
Portugal were recruited for this cross-cultural study. The following measures were
applied: (a) Adjustment to Aging Scale (ATAS); (b) Satisfaction with Life Scale
(SwLS); (c) New Sexual Satisfaction Scale (NSSS); (d) Mini-Mental State Exam;
and (e) Sociodemographic, health and lifestyle questionnaire. Clusters were identified and characterized by using K-means cluster analysis, encompassing SwL, AtA,
and sexual satisfaction. Sexual well-being differences among clusters were analyzed
with One-way ANOVAs. Findings indicated three clusters, which explained 76.4%
(R-sq=0.764) of the total variance: Cluster #1: “Moderately adjusted older adults”
(n=355, 53.9%), Cluster #2: “Moderately fulfilled older adults” (n=265, 40.3%),
and Cluster 3: “Well adjusted and satisfied older adults” (n=38, 5.8%). Participants in Cluster #1 were mostly Mexican, with moderate levels of AtA and reduced
sexual satisfaction and SwL. Conversely, Cluster #2 predominantly consisted of
Portuguese participants with moderate sexual satisfaction and SwL, and lower levels of AtA. Participants from Cluster #3 were mostly Portuguese with high levels
of AtA, sexual satisfaction, and SwL. This innovative study explored the intricate
relationship between sexual well-being, the ability to adjust to aging, and overall
SwL, in two different cultural contexts. Findings contributed to the understanding
of the relationship between these three variables and for developing tailored future
interventions and service planning with older adults in different cultures.Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia - FCTinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Measuring sustainability: A validation study of a Triple Bottom Line (TBL) Scale in Portugal
Studies on sustainability using the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) approach are increasing. However,
there is no consensus on how to measure the economic, social, and environmental dimensions of
sustainability based on TBL theory. Despite numerous proposals, there is a lack of integrated
measures covering all three dimensions simultaneously and having a human-centered approach. This
gap is particularly pronounced in Portugal, where no existing scale adequately meets the needs of
academics and practitioners. To address this challenge, and based on existing measures that
encompass the nature of each TBL dimension, we present and validate a 15-item TBL scale, with 5
items per dimension: economic, social, and environmental. To test convergent validity and
contribute to the discussion regarding the links between TBL and Corporate Social Responsibility
(CSR), we also analyzed the association between each TBL dimension and each CSR dimension.
Using a sample of 635 participants, divided into two independent sub-samples, we conducted
comprehensive statistical analyses, including exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis,
reliability testing, and convergent and discriminant analysis, followed by invariance testing of the
TBL scale. The results suggest that the proposed measure fits the Portuguese sample, and all
psychometric results are robust. We also establish the links between the three dimensions of TBL—
economic, social, and environmental—and the CSR dimensions, as convergent validity is verified
between social TBL and employees' CSR practices. We discuss theoretical and practical
implications, as well as limitations and suggestions for future research.
Abstract: The understanding of how individuals’ beliefs, perceptions or (mis)information interact with other processes in shaping individuals’ engagement is of great important in contemporary societies. During the COVID-19 lockdown, adolescents were exposed to a huge amount of information through various channels. The formulated perceptions, beliefs and representations, including about the causes of the COVID-19, influence subjective experiences and functioning. This study aimed to examine the role that adolescents’ perceptions and beliefs about COVID-19 played in the associations among well-being, satisfaction of basic psychological needs, and engagement with sustainable development. In total, 1.649 adolescents (51.2% girls) participated in two waves of data collection (before COVID-19 and during COVID-19 lockdown). The results showed that (1) well-being was positively associated with adolescent engagement with sustainable development, (2) satisfaction of basic psychological needs was also positively associated with engagement with sustainable development, and (3) satisfaction of basic psychological needs mediated the association between well-being and engagement with sustainable development. However, and the most significant result from this study, adolescents’ perceptions of COVID-19 being a consequence of human-environment changed the direction of those associations. These results are consistent with research on misinformation and cognitive biases: in adolescents who had an understanding of COVID-19 as being a natural phenomenon, resulting from human-nature interaction, their engagement with sustainable development was less dependent on their subjective well-being and on their satisfaction of basic psychological needs. These results have important implications research, political and educational practices and for Health-related Communication and Messages.
Abstract: The widespread adoption of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) resulted in a new form of work culture in which boundaries are not clearly established. Technostress – a phenomenon partially caused by excessive technology exposure and usage – is being associated with a myriad of negative effects. However, individual differences, such as personality traits, might influence one’s experience of stress when using ICT. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the indirect effects of personality traits on the relationship between work overload and technostress. A sample of 213 ICT Brazilian workers (Mage=35.53±9.41; 64.8% males) provided information on demographic and labor-related data, as well as measurements of Technostress, Work Overload, and Personality Traits;moreover, based on a coefficient of determination (ρ2=.12), the power achieved was 99%. Adjusted for multiple comparisons, results pointed to moderate, significant links between Fatigue and Neuroticism (ρ=.32), Fatigue and Work Overload (ρ=.37), Anxiety and Work Overload (ρ=.33). Moreover, Conscientiousness exerted an indirect effect on the relationship between Work Overload and the Technostress dimension of Fatigue (95%CI: .001, .06). The study highlights the role of individual differences that might prevent workers’ experiences of technostress, particularly Fatigue.
