This study aims not only to understand how extraversion and neuroticism traits can be related to employee silence and adaptive performance, but also to verify if employee silence can mediate the relationship between personality traits and adaptive performance.
Sample composition is 208 participants, aged between 19 and 66 years old, of which 59.1% are female and 40.9% are male.
In order to measure personality traits (extraversion and neuroticism), a BFI-10 scale (Bártolo-Ribeiro, 2017) was used, which is an adaptation for the Portuguese population of BFI - 10 Item Short Version (Rammstedt, & John, 2007). To assess silence behaviours, was used the Employee Silence scale proposed by Van Dyne et al. (2003), in its adapted version for the Portuguese population by Sabino & Cesário (2019), and in order to assess adaptive performance it was used the original Individual Adaptative Performance scale, proposed, and adapted for the Portuguese population by Marques-Quinteiro et al. (2015).
In the results, we verified the existence of a significant impact for extraversion and neuroticism traits, respectively positive and negative on adaptive performance. In terms of employee silence, there was only a negative and significant relationship with neuroticism. Thus, the hypotheses that relates silence with extraversion and adaptive performance were not confirmed.
Regarding the results of the mediation model, for both neuroticism and extraversion traits, was noticed a direct effect on adaptive performance, however, the same is not mediated by employee silence for any of personality variables, not confirming the hypothesis’s mediation
uma melhor compreensão dos CALIntroduction: This study intends to explore the relationship between self-harm behaviours
(SHB) and identity, while introducting a new approach to study the identity by exploring the
emotional valence and importance associated with the subjects narratives and self-concept
domains.
Method: An online protocol consisting on the Sociodemographic Questionnaire, the Task “I
Was”, “I Am” and “I Will Be” and the portuguese version of the Inventory of Self-harm
behaviours (ICAL) was answered by 64 adolescents from both genders, aged between 18 and
21 years (M = 19.72; SD = 1,133), divided into two natural groups, according to the presence
or absence of a history of SBH.
Results: The results revealed pathological narratives in adolescents with SHB, as well as, lower
self-concept assessments in adolescents with SHB when compared to the subjects without SHB.
Conclusion: The results of this study underline the important role of identity for a better
understanding of CAL
Targeted sequencing of mitochondrial genes reveals signatures of molecular adaptation in a nearly panmictic small pelagic fish species
Ongoing climatic changes, with predictable impacts on marine environmental conditions, are expected to trigger organismal responses. Recent evidence shows that, in some marine species, variation in mitochondrial genes involved in the aerobic conversion of oxygen into ATP at the cellular level correlate with gradients of sea surface temperature and gradients of dissolved oxygen. Here, we investigated the adaptive potential of the European sardine Sardina pilchardus populations offshore the Iberian Peninsula. We performed a seascape genetics approach that consisted of the high throughput sequencing of mitochondria's ATP6, COI, CYTB and ND5 and five microsatellite loci on 96 individuals coupled with environmental information on sea surface temperature and dissolved oxygen across five sampling locations. Results show that, despite sardines forming a nearly panmictic population around Iberian Peninsula, haplotype frequency distribution can be explained by gradients of minimum sea surface temperature and dissolved oxygen. We further identified that the frequencies of the most common CYTB and ATP6 haplotypes negatively correlate with minimum sea surface temperature across the sampled area, suggestive of a signature of selection. With signatures of selection superimposed on highly connected populations, sardines may be able to follow environmental optima and shift their distribution northwards as a response to the increasing sea surface temperatures.
observação do quadro epistemológico empregue.
A partir desta questão
As a science that defines the relational subject as its object of study and intervention, identity is a
critical concept in Psychology since it is at the core of what the subject represents. If conceptualized
as a construction, understanding identity implies knowing the formation processes through which
it takes place. However, and as a consequence of the polysemy of thinking concerning the concept,
there is a theoretical dispersion about identity formation, depending on the epistemological
framework. In the classical psychoanalytical conceptions, identity formation is paramount to its
theorizations, in which we see the concept of personal identity built through identification
processes. The question arises: if identity is formed only through identification processes, where's
the subject's place in its identity path? Based on this fundamental question, we will look at the
identity formation model proposed by António Coimbra de Matos for a formulation that will help
clarify this apparent conceptual paradox. Through a fluid and fruitful dialogue with an artistic
object, we will perform a circumnavigation to find other views and new meanings about the theory
of identity co-construction the author presents
Mental health andadherence to COVID-19 protective behaviors among cancer patients during the COVID-19 Pandemic: An International, Multinational Cross-Sectional Study
A population-based cross-sectional study was conducted during the first COVID-19 wave,
to examine the impact of COVID-19 on mental health using an anonymous online survey, enrolling
9565 individuals in 78 countries. The current sub-study examined the impact of the pandemic and
the associated lockdown measures on the mental health, and protective behaviors of cancer patients
in comparison to non-cancer participants. Furthermore, 264 participants from 30 different countries
reported being cancer patients. The median age was 51.5 years, 79.9% were female, and 28% had
breast cancer. Cancer participants reported higher self-efficacy to follow recommended national
guidelines regarding COVID-19 protective behaviors compared to non-cancer participants (p < 0.01).
They were less stressed (p < 0.01), more psychologically flexible (p < 0.01), and had higher levels
of positive affect compared to non-cancer participants. Amongst cancer participants, the majority
(80.3%) reported COVID-19, not their cancer, as their priority during the first wave of the pandemic
and females reported higher levels of stress compared to males. In conclusion, cancer participants
appeared to have handled the unpredictable nature of the first wave of the pandemic efficiently, with a
positive attitude towards an unknown and otherwise frightening situation. Larger, cancer population
specific and longitudinal studies are warranted to ensure adequate medical and psychological care

Sympatric threatened Iberian leuciscids exhibit differences in Aeromonas diversity and skin lesions’ prevalence
Assessments regarding health aspects of Iberian leuciscids are limited. There is currently an information gap regarding effects of infectious diseases on these populations and their role as a possible conservation threat. Moreover, differences in susceptibility to particular agents, such as Aeromonas spp., by different species/populations is not clear. To understand potential differences in Aeromonas diversity and load, as well as in the prevalence and proportion of skin lesions, in fishes exposed to similar environmental conditions, an observational study was implemented. Using a set of 12 individuals belonging to two sympatric Iberian leuciscid species (Squalius pyrenaicus and Iberochondrostoma lusitanicum), the skin lesion score in each individual was analyzed. Furthermore, a bacterial collection of Aeromonas spp. isolated from each individual was created and isolates’ load was quantified by plate counting, identified at species level using a multiplex-PCR assay and virulence profiles established using classical phenotypic methods. The similarity relationships of the isolates were evaluated using a RAPD analysis. The skin lesion score was significantly higher in S. pyrenaicus, while the Aeromonas spp. load did not differ between species. When analyzing Aeromonas species diversity between fishes, different patterns were observed. A predominance of A. hydrophila was detected in S. pyrenaicus individuals, while I. lusitanicum individuals displayed a more diverse structure. Similarly, the virulence index of isolates from S. pyrenaicus was higher, mostly due to the isolated Aeromonas species. Genomic typing clustered the isolates mainly by fish species and skin lesion score. Specific Aeromonas clusters were associated with higher virulence indexes. Current results suggest potential differences in susceptibility to Aeromonas spp. at the fish species/individual level, and constitute important knowledge for proper wildlife management through the signalization of at-risk fish populations and hierarchization of conservation measures.
This study aims to understand how the magnitude of change influences the way fire crews coordinate and adapt after an unexpected event during an extraction.
The sample include 140 recruits from the Firefighters Regiment of the Command and Training Headquarters in Marvila, Lisbon. These 140 participants are distributed by 28 teams, consisting of 6 elements, (Technic 1, Technic 2, Technic 3, Technic 4, Paramedic, Leader).
In order to evaluate the coordination (implicit and explicit) variables, a research grid was developed with the objective of codifying the coordination results that occurred during the extraction task.
To assess the adaptive performance of the team, a version of the scale by Pulakos et al. (2000), was adapted for the Portuguese population by Marques-Quinteiro, Ramos-Villagrasa, Passos and Curral (2015).
The results demonstrate that the hypotheses were not confirmed. However, they suggest that there is a significant relationship between the adoption of implicit coordination behaviors and the duration of the task. However, the results seem to indicate that there is no relationship between explicit and implicit coordination with the adaptation evaluated by the leader.
It was found that the magnitude of the change has an influence on the implicit coordination, and this has a special importance in routine tasks
Introduction: Paediatric chronic diseases have been conceptualized as an extremely disruptive event that goes beyond the individual level, reflecting on the whole family. From the moment a diagnosis is made, caregivers' roles and responsibilities change to accommodate the child's needs. Coping is considered a process that actively contributes to family adaptation to the disease. The main objective of this investigation is to evaluate Coping and its relationship with several clinical, sociodemographic and psychosocial factors, namely the Caregiver burden and Post-traumatic growth (PTG).
Method: The sample consists of 127 participants (M = 40.25; SD = 7.38) who are or have been caregivers of children/adolescents with chronic diseases, whose diagnosis was made between 0 and 19 years old and fluent in the Portuguese language. Through the Google forms platform, participants responded to the investigation protocol, which included the questionnaire of sociodemographic and clinical data, the Coping Health Inventory for Parents (CHIP), the Caregiver Burden Scale (MBCBS) and the Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI).
Results: There was a negative and significant correlation between coping and caregiver burden (r = -0.19; p = 0.031) and on the other hand, there was a positive and significant correlation between coping and PTG (r = 0 , 38; p ≤ 0.001). The final coping model was significant (F (5,121) = 10.98; p ≤ 0.01) and consisted of the variables Relations with others (β = 0.33; p ≤ 0.01), Relationship Burden (β = 0.15; p = 0.058), Objective Burden (β = -0.21; p = 0.009), Personal Growth (β = 2.61; p = 0.010) and current situation (β = 2.10; p = 0.038) are the main predictors of coping in this sample.
Conclusion: This study provides important evidence for the study of coping in the Resiliency Model of Family Stress, and it is proposed that future studies include positive variables for understanding coping in this model
COVID-19: Do weather conditions influence the transmission of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) in Brasília and Manaus, Brazil?
The global outbreak of coronavirus SARS-CoV-2
(COVID-19) disease is affecting every part of human lives.
Several researchers investigated to understand how temperature,
humidity and air pollution had an influence on
COVID-19 transmission. Transmission of COVID-19 due
to temperature and humidity is a pertinent question. There
is a lack of study of Covid-19 in tropical climate countries.
This study aims to analyze the correlation between weather
and Covid-19 pandemic in Brasília and Manaus, two states
of Brazil. The research topic is important to know how the
climate affects or predisposes the spread of COVID-19.
This knowledge will provide elements to decision-makers
regarding health and public health standards and decisions.
This study employed a secondary data analysis of surveillance
data of Covid-19 from the Ministry of Health of Brazil and
weather from the National Institute of Meteorology of Brazil.
These are Brazilian public organizations that, on a daily
basis, record this information on a systematic basis of dates.
They are central federal organizations, responsible for data
analysis and public policy planning to combat Covid-19.
The data are reliables and obtained from reliable government
sources. We systematically record all information for 51
days, during a period of high disease growth in the country.
The components of weather include low temperature (°C),
high temperature (°C), temperature average (°C), humidity
(%), and amount of rainfall (mm). Pearson-rank correlation
test showed that high temperature (r=.643; p<.001),
low temperature (r=.640; p<.001) and humidity (r=.248;
p<.005) were significantly correlated with deaths caused by
Covid-19 pandemic used for data analysis. Social isolation
rate (β = -.254; p<.001) and daily record of new cases (β =
.332; p<.001), with adjusted R-squared of .623, were the
predictors of deaths acummuled by Covid-19. The finding
serves as an input to reduce the incidence rate of Covid-19
in Brazil. Statistical results show evidence of the relationship
between climate elements and COVID-19 indicators,
such as the number of deaths, spread of contamination and
social isolation rate. The study of dimensions of climate as a
seasonal pattern and its relationship to COVID-19 benefits
epidemiological surveillance. The more geographic spaces
are known, more will help to understand the differences
in disease behavior in different places. The results of this
research showed that environmental conditions influence the
contagion and speed of transmission of Covid-19. Policies
that contribute to benefits to health and sustainability need
to be planned. The contribution of climate and other factors, such as air pollution, for example, require additional studies.
Environmental changes, such as climate change and biodiversity,
must also be investigated for their impact on human
health. Acting in prevention, including the promotion of
socially acceptable behaviors on the part of the population,
seems to be the best way to deal with Covid-19.Resumen: El brote mundial de la enfermedad por SARS-
baja temperatura (°C), alta temperatura (°C), temperatura

Objective: The purpose of this experimental research was to investigate possible impacts from phubbing between friends - the act of snubbing another party in a social interaction by instead focusing on one’s mobile phone. Method: 96 participants watched a 120 second animation of the interaction between two friends and were instructed to imagine themselves as part of this interaction as vividly as possible. The participants watched one of three video scenarios: in the first, one party displayed no phubbing behaviour throughout their interaction; the second video displayed phubbing behaviour during part of their interaction; and the third scenario displayed phubbing behaviour extensively. During the data collection phase of the study, the scenario that each participant watched was determined in a non-random distribution, on a first-come, first-serve basis by the investigator. The participants’ reactions were evaluated based on positive and negative affects, friendship quality and sense of belonging. Results: Participants who did not perceive themselves as being subjected to phubbing behaviour associated more favourably positive affects and less negative affects. They also perceived a higher quality of friendship and a greater feeling of belonging than those who perceived themselves as the subjects of phubbing behaviour. Conclusion: This research reveals that phubbing behavior in face-to-face interactions can deteriorate the quality of the friendships, lower the level of perceived affections and diminish the sense of belonging
