Utrecht grief rumination scale (UGRS): Psychometric study of validation of the Portuguese version
Grief rumination is characterized by recurring, repetitive, self-focused thoughts about the causes
and consequences of loss and loss-related emotions. This cognitive process is a transdiagnostic
risk factor for mental disorders, such as prolonged grief. The aim of this study was to analyze
the psychometric properties of the Portuguese version of the Utrecht Grief Rumination Scale
(UGRS). The sample consists of 242 bereaved adult participants with Portuguese nationality.
Confirmatory Factor Analysis showed that the hierarchical model showed a better fit to the
data. Average Variance Extracted was also calculated to measure convergent and divergent validity. Test-criterion validity was investigated by analyzing associations between grief rumination
and measures of posttraumatic stress, prolonged grief, anxiety, and depression. Using
McDonald’s Omega and Cronbach’s Alpha, all subscales showed adequate reliability. The UGRS
showed acceptable psychometric properties, standing out as a valid instrument for practice
and research in psychology in the area of bereavement.Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia - FCTinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Attachment orientations, emotion goals, and emotion regulation.
ABSTRACT: While research has linked attachment to emotion regulation (ER), little is known about associations between
attachment and what individuals want to feel (i.e., emotion goals), something that has been found to influence
ER strategy choice. In this study, we examined the links between attachment, emotion goals, and emotion
regulation. A total of 605 participants from the community were included. They filled out self-report scales on
attachment, emotion goals, and ER strategies. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. Direct
effects showed a link between attachment avoidance and fewer pro-hedonic goals, more suppression and fewer
emotion communication, and between attachment anxiety and fewer pro-hedonic goals, more pro-social, performance, and impression management goals, and more suppression and rumination. Indirect effects showed that
attachment avoidance was associated with less emotion communication and positive reappraisal and more
suppression through fewer pro-hedonic goals. Attachment anxiety was associated with more rumination and
more suppression through fewer impression management goals; attachment anxiety was also associated with
more suppression through fewer pro-hedonic goals and more performance goals. These findings highlight the
role of attachment as an important antecedent of emotion goals.Fundação para a Ciencia e Tecnologia FCTinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Adaptation, confirmatory factor analysis, and psychometric properties of the Brazilian version of the Repetitive Eating Questionnaire
Objective: The Repetitive Eating Questionnaire (Rep(eat)-Q) is a brief self-report
measure developed to assess grazing behavior—an understudied problematic eating
behavior associated with eating disorder psychopathology and poor weight management. This study aimed to adapt and test the psychometric properties and factor
structure of the Rep(eat)-Q in a Brazilian community sample.
Method: We used the International Test Commission guidelines for the adaptation of
psychological measures between cultures. Participants were recruited from the community and on a university campus and completed a set of questionnaires including
the Rep(eat)-Q, psychological measures, and sociodemographic data.
Results: A total of 718 (86.4% female) completed the Rep(eat)-Q and were eligible
for the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Only 542 completed the entire survey
(Rep(eat)-Q and other psychological measures) and were eligible for the analysis of
the validity evidence based on the relations to other variables. CFA revealed support
for a two first-order model as originally proposed, however, a hierarchical
(i.e., second-order) model is proposed. We found support for second-order scalar
invariance across sex. Both first- and second-order internal consistency estimates
presented very good evidence. Analysis (n = 542) revealed moderate to strong correlations (≥.58 to .77) between grazing (total score and subscales) and binge eating and
other psychological measures, presenting good convergent evidence.
Discussion: This study reports good psychometric properties of the Rep(eat)-Q for
the Brazilian community sample.
Public Significance: Grazing is a problematic eating behavior and the Rep(eat)-Q is
one of the measures to assess grazing. The article aimed to adapt and test the psychometric properties of the Rep(eat)-Q in a Brazilian community sample. The results
support a two-factor structure and suggest that the Rep(eat)-Q possesses good psychometric properties to be used with the Brazilian populationsinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
The effect of green human resources management practices on employees’ affective commitment and work engagement: The moderating role of employees’ biospheric value
Organizational Sustainability is an increasingly important movement in the business world because of its social impact and also for the obligations imposed by state agendas and programs by global entities, such as the United Nations. At the forefront of such a movement is the Human Resources function, given its boundary activities with several critical internal and external stakeholders. The term Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) has been used to describe people management with a focus on green issues. The main objective of this research was to explore the relationship between personal values associated with sustainable behaviors (altruistic, biospheric, egoistic, and hedonic values), organizational outcomes such as engagement and commitment, and GHRM. A questionnaire was prepared and used to collect 532 responses from employees from various organizations. Results show that of the four personal values only the biospheric one moderates the relationship between GHRM practices and affective commitment so that the relationship between HRM and affective commitment is stronger when biospheric values score higher. This is an important finding, as it shows that when people value the biosphere, the effect of GHRM practices on affective commitment and work engagement is stronger than when people value other matters.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Words matter: Judges’ value judgments in sentence pronouncements remarks.
This study examines judges’ value judgments on their remarks during sentence
pronouncements. We performed a content analysis of 93 sentence pronouncements
from the 13 judges from a Portuguese criminal court. Within these discourses,
299 discourse units were codifed as judges’ value judgments, that is, personal
contents beyond strict legal issues. From these 299, 107 were recommendations
(comprehending advice to change, to not reofend, to rethink life, and action
instructions), and 192 were opinions about the individual, the society, and the judicial
system. The existence of value judgments in sentence pronouncements carries
important implications for the sentencing process. Namely, these value judgments
allow the identifcation of judges’ personal ideas, and issues particularly vulnerable
for simplistic reasonings, as well as subjective considerations. This identifcation
and the discussion on the powerful role of language in the context of sentencing
are key features to strengthen judges’ training and, consequently, to improve the
implementation of penal justice.

partir disto, sugere-se que as organizações repensem os seus valores, de forma a tornarem-se
mais inclusivas; além de investirem na consciencialização dos colaboradores sobre a
diversidade no trabalho e os seus benefícios.ABSTRACT: When considering contemporary phenomena such as the migration movement,
globalization and remote work, it can be inferred that organizations will increasingly
encounter employees of different nationalities and/or ethnicities, i.e., cultural diversity.
Therefore, this study aimed to verify whether individuals who perceived their organizations
as inclusive would also have a more positive perception of cultural diversity – namely,
whether they would perceive more benefits and fewer threats from this phenomenon.
A total of 147 individuals participated in this research, mostly women, of Portuguese
nationality and with some level of Higher Education concluded. The data obtained could not
confirm the hypotheses raised; however, it was possible to draw 4 distinct profiles within the
sample – profiles that are aligned with the hypotheses raised. These results are a starting
point for organizations to realize the impact that their own practices, values and cultures have
on their employees’ mindset. Based on this, it is suggested that organizations rethink their
values, to become more inclusive; in addition to investing in making employees aware of
diversity at work and its benefits
Uma perspectiva biopsicossocial sobre o risco para a saúde mental em Itália durante a segunda fase de confinamento devido à COVID-19
Abstract: Introduction: Research into the first phase of the COVID-19 lockdown in Italy showed an association with an increased susceptibility to adverse mental health (MH) in the general population. We investigated in the same population the correlations between the various demographic, socioeconomic, biological/clinical history and psychological dimensions and MH in the second, “opening-up”, phase of the lockdown. Methods: An anonymous online survey collected data from 26 May to 4 July 2020 on demographic, socioeconomic, perceived risk, general health and quality of life appraisals, worry, interference in life, life satisfaction, perceived happiness and MH by using Mental Health Inventory-5 (MHI-5). Results: Of the 300 participants, only 195 responded to MH questions. Older age was positively associated with better MH (r=.15), as was education (r=.19). A negative correlation with MH, with medium-high effect size, was found with quality of life (r=.40) and health (r=.34) appraisals, and the factors “worry about sustenance” (r=.23) and “interference with life” (r=.32). A positive correlation, with strong effect size, was found between MH and life satisfaction (r=.53) and perception of happiness (r=.64). Discussion: During phase two of the lockdown, rather the real impact of COVID-19 restrictions on employment or economic resources, it was worry about finances that was associated with worse MH. Mental distress was associated with the loss of some positive psychological factors. From a homeostatic and biopsychosocial perspective of MH, life satisfaction and perceived happiness represent important mental resources for counteracting the effects of lockdown on MH.Resumo: Introdução: A investigação sobre a primeira fase do confinamento devido à COVID-19 em Itália mostrou que se observou um aumento da suscetibilidade a problemas de saúde mental (SM) na população.

Colony attendance and moult pattern of Cory's Shearwaters (Calonectris borealis) differing in breeding status and age
Migratory birds must fit three costly life-history events within the annual cycle, reproduction, moult and migration, to minimize their overlap and maximize survival and breeding
success. However, some seabirds, such as Cory’s Shearwater Calonectris borealis, overlap
body moult and breeding, with flight feather renewal occurring in late chick-rearing. In contrast, the moult patterns of non-breeding adult (sabbatical) and immature Cory’s Shearwaters, which also attend the colony during the breeding season, remain poorly understood.
Furthermore, the potential implications of life-stage and breeding status trade-offs on moult
status and colony attendance in non-breeders has rarely been investigated. Surveying different areas within one colony between June and September 2013 and 2014, we studied the
age and breeding status composition of birds attending the breeding colony and scored
moult of their body (breast and upper-neck), wing and tail feathers. We found that in addition to breeders (n = 165), 57.6% of the birds (n = 389) attending the colony were 4- to
10-year-old immatures (n = 132) and adult sabbatical shearwaters (n = 92). Sabbaticals
and 8- to 10-year-old immatures (n = 28) were present at the colony during incubation,
whereas only three sabbatical birds and no 8- to 10-year-old immatures were captured in
late chick-rearing. Conversely, 4- to 7-year-old immatures arrived later in the season but
were still present in late chick-rearing. Sabbatical and 8- to 10-year-old immatures were
moulting body feathers at the same time as adult breeders, whereas, among 4- to 7-year-old
immatures, older birds moulted earlier than younger birds. A larger proportion of sabbatical
birds were replacing tail feathers compared with adult breeders. However, there was no evidence that sabbaticals or 8- to 10-year-old immatures differed in wing moult from adult
breeders until August. Overall, our study shows that colony attendance by non-breeding
adults and immatures is widespread in this population. The synchronous moult schedule of
flight and body feathers across age groups at different life-history stages may suggest that
this aspect of moult is controlled by environmental conditions.Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia - FCTinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
