How does social media marketing impact brand loyalty in the luxury fashion industry in Portugal?
In the current consumer landscape, new technologies are gradually demonstrating a
greater impact, as consumers increasingly use technological tools in their daily lives.
Social media has become a platform where billions of consumers interact with brands
and other consumers. Therefore, for a brand to achieve the desired performance, it is
necessary to understand the impact of its activities on social media on the target
audience. Consequently, it is essential to thoroughly understand the extent to which
social media marketing affects the long-term relationship between the brand and the
consumer. Concepts such as brand loyalty, repurchase intention, and brand trust are
crucial for understanding the relationship between both parties. A qualitative research
method, mediated through personal interviews, revealed that social media interaction
can profoundly affect the long-term relationship between the consumer and the brand.
The present dissertation aims to analyze the macroeconomic impacts of unconventional monetary policy in the Eurozone, more specifically the large-scale asset purchases implemented by the European Central Bank, from 2009 to 2025, across its various phases, namely Quantitative Easing and Quantitative Tightening.
Using a VAR system and data extracted from Bloomberg and the ECB Data Portal, it was possible to obtain the impulse response functions of the ECB’s balance sheet expansion on industrial production, the price index, long-term interest rates, and the composite systemic risk index. Overall, the empirical model yields conclusions pointing to a significant impact on the CISS, which was found to respond positively to the ECB’s asset purchases. Regarding the specific analysis of QT, it can be inferred that the consequences of the European Central Bank’s paradigm reversal are not yet visible at the level of short-term interest rates
Brand authenticity: Exploring antecedents and outcomes in heritage tourism
Heritage tourism goes beyond a simple tourist visit and is a sophisticated phenomenon
encompassing historic sites, traditional practices, and different stories, which contribute
to the promotion of cultural perception. The intersection between heritage tourism and
hotels creates an interesting area where the preservation of cultural heritage is linked to
the hotel industry's passion for delivering unique and authentic experiences to visitors.
The aim of this study is to investigate the presence of the brand authenticity factor in
this sector and to find out what causes it and what outcomes it can generate. Six constructs
were identified to build a conceptual model around the theme of brand authenticity: 1-
brand heritage, 2- brand nostalgia, 3- impression in memory, 4- revisit intention, 5-
recommendation intentions and 6- willingness to pay premium price.
Data was collected and analyzed using a quantitative analysis in the form of a
questionnaire, distributed online and based on the literature of authors regarding the
previously mentioned topic. The results showed that brand heritage and brand nostalgia
positively influence brand authenticity. In addition, impression in memory, revisit
intention and recommendation intention can be outcomes of brand authenticity. Unlike
willingness to pay the premium price, which proved not to be significant for the study.
Also, the intention to revisit and the intention to recommend seem to be positively related
to the impression in memory. In addition, implications for theory and practice were
Business development plan for CJ cultural communication limited
In the context of China's rapidly evolving advertising industry, characterised by a surge in market competition, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are facing significant challenges in maintaining their viability and growth. The proliferation of advertising enterprises has consequently imposed elevated standards for the survival and advancement of small and medium-sized enterprises. CJ Culture Communication Co., Ltd., a nascent yet expanding advertising enterprise, has yet to implement a systematic and diversified marketing strategy. Its marketing activities are extensive, yet brand awareness and customer stickiness remain low, impeding effective market expansion. This study aims to address this gap by exploring scientifically optimised marketing strategies for effective customer acquisition and retention, thereby enhancing the company's market competitiveness and sustainability.
This study employs a multifaceted approach, encompassing a comprehensive literature review, a questionnaire survey, and a case study method, to systematically analyse the marketing status quo and identify areas of improvement in customer management. At the macro level, this paper assesses the external environment through PEST analysis and analyses internal resources and capabilities using the SWOT model. At the micro level, the STP strategic framework is used to carry out customer segmentation, target market selection and brand positioning. The study also focuses on the analysis and recommendations of key aspects such as existing customer acquisition, customer life cycle, and customer loyalty, with a view to improving CJ's comprehensive capabilities in customer acquisition, conversion, and loyalty retention.
In terms of the marketing mix, this paper proposes a '7Ps' improvement strategy, which comprehensively improves customer experience and enterprise value delivery capabilities from seven dimensions: product customisation, flexible pricing mechanisms, multi-channel construction, targeted promotional activities, personnel training and management, brand image shaping, and service process optimization.
The research provides CJ with a practical and theoretical marketing strategy, which can be used to acquire and retain customers. This is of great practical significance and promotional value for small and medium-sized enterprises in the local advertising industry.
Machine learning models to predict the COVID-19 reproduction rate: Combining non-pharmaceutical interventions with sociodemographic and cultural characteristics
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, countries worldwide have implemented a set of Non-Pharmaceutical Interventions (NPIs) to prevent the dissemination of the pandemic. Few studies applied machine learning models to compare the use of NPIs, socioeconomic and demographic characteristics, and cultural dimensions in predicting the reproduction rate Rt. We adopted the CRoss-Industry Standard Process for Data Mining (CRISP-DM) methodology using as data sources the “Our World in Data COVID-19”, the “Oxford COVID-19 Government Response Tracker” and the Hofstede Insights data. We analysed the impact that the Hofstede's cultural dimensions, the implementation of various degrees of restriction of NPIs and the sociodemographic variables may have in the reproduction rate by applying machine learning models to understand whether cultural characteristics are useful information to improve reproduction rate predictions.
We included data from 101 countries to train several machine learning models to compare the results between the models with and without the Hofstede's cultural dimensions. Our results show the use of cultural dimensions helps to improve the models, and that the ones that obtained a better prediction of the Rt were the ensemble models, especially the Random Forest.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio
atravessam. The utopia of unlimited exploitation of space and the scenic enterprise of leisure’s
ritualization have been some of the references imposed by Western neoliberal hegemony in
Iberian urbanization. Behind the popular festive imaginary, the Mediterranean heritage of
mythological symbols and beliefs is experiencing a dialectical arena of reactivation and
disappearance. This research navigates the dissemination, correlation and analysis of the
networks that confine popular imaginaries to contemporary processes of urban
transformation. By comparing the symbolic use of ‘arraiais’ and ‘patios’ in the significant
changes that the tourism and real estate market has induced in the cities of late capitalism,
interactions between hegemonic and counter-hegemonic forces will be unveiled.
Subsequently, a reconceptualization of the classic dichotomies in the ambiguous space of
Lisbon and Cordova’s commodification processes is proposed throughout this investigation
How uncanny are virtual vs. human influencers: A text mining approach
This paper uses the uncanny valley theory to examine how users react to different development levels of human-like avatars on social media. Three virtual avatars with different human-like appearances are compared with a human influencer from the same peer group on Instagram. The methodology is based on the evaluation of user comments on the posted content of the subjects. Text mining is used to evaluate the comments and calculate a sentiment score for each influencer. The results indicate that users react positively to the human influencer and negatively to the most human-like avatar. The study shows users follow the uncanny valley curve when dealing with virtual influencers. When users deal with virtual influencers who try to imitate humans but have low CGI quality, the results are positive. However, when virtual influencers are close to human-like appearance, there are adverse effects on their satisfaction.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio
Effect of social media marketing activities on brand image of the airline companies
This study investigates Social Media Marketing Activities (SMMA) undertaken by Emirates and Ryanair airlines, analyzing their impact on brand image. SMMA characteristics - entertainment, interaction, informativeness, responsiveness, and risk - are identified. The study examines their relationship with brand image, e-Word of Mouth (E-WOM), and commitment using a structural equation model. Unlike previous research solely relying on questionnaires, this study incorporates social media analysis, particularly Instagram comments analyzed in R. Surveys were conducted with 137 passengers, complemented by analysis of 1,024 and 1,370 comments from Emirates' and Ryanair's social media, respectively. Results indicate SMMA significantly enhances brand image, which in turn positively influences E-WOM and commitment.
Frontline employees' mental health and turnover intention in the hospitality industry
Mental health is extremely important, being in the hospitality industry context harmful to service quality. Given the pressure and working conditions faced by frontline employees, there is a strong likelihood to develop Turnover Intention.
Therefore, the research aims primarily to investigate the influence of mental health problems on the turnover intention of frontline employees in the hospitality industry, through five variables: Surface Acting (SA), Deep Acting (DA), Job Burnout (JB), Work-life Balance (WLB), and Work Stress (WS).
To achieve these objectives, the data were collected with an online survey. Based on a sample of 228 Portuguese frontline employees, the research model was estimated using Partial Least Squares Path Modelling.
The results reveal that SA, JB and WS significantly and positively impact frontline hospitality employees’ Turnover Intention in Portugal, while WLB significantly and negatively influence Turnover Intention. DA and Turnover Intention were not significantly correlated. Additionally, the variables distribution, apart from DA, vary according to whether the employee belongs to a management position.
This study extended the existing knowledge by discovering that all variables of the research, apart from DA, vary according to whether the employee belongs to a management position. More specifically, employees who do not have a management position are more likely to engage in SA, suffer from JB and WS, have an imbalance between work and private life, and develop Turnover Intention. Furthermore, it is a pioneering research in the field of Portuguese hospitality industry and the first study including an integrative model with all these variables.
Além disso, o Valor do Preço e a Privacidade Percebida também mostraram ser um determinante da Intenção de Uso e as Condições Facilitadoras do Comportamento de Uso.In the digital society in which we live, wearable devices are increasingly present as one of the most promising IoT technologies. This study, based on a model adapted from UTAUT2, investigates the acceptance of wearable technology and the factors that affect the intention to use and usage behaviour of smartwatches and smartbands. Three constructs were added to the original model: Perceived Security, Perceived Privacy and Brand Name. Considering the methodological framework and the study’s goals, quantitative data was collected by questionnaire. 305 valid responses were obtained and analysed using the Smart PLS 4 and IBM SPSS Statistics tools. The results of the study confirmed the validity of the model and made it possible to analyse the intention of Portuguese consumers to use smartwatches and smartbands, where it was found that the variables Performance Expectancy and Habit were the strongest determinants of the Intention to Use smartwatches and smartbands and the variables Habit and Intention to Use were the strongest determinants in explaining the Use Behaviour of these devices. In addition, Price Value and Perceived Privacy also proved to be a determinant of Intention to Use and the Facilitating Conditions of Use Behaviour
