Impression management in accounting
No full textSeveral ways or tactics can be used by entities to manage disclosed information, undermining its transparency and mitigating its credibility. Even though accounting literature has covered a wide range of IM strategies and investigation lines since the seminal research from the last decade of the 20th century, this chapter demonstrates that IM remains relevant since it can be assessed and adapted from the perspective of trending accounting topics. A textual analysis tool is complementary used to assess papers gathered from the Scopus database by 27th August 2022. Based on the findings, seminal papers were mainly concerned with analyzing the graphs and messages reported to manipulate or obfuscate the information provided to stakeholders. Papers were initially focused on mandatory (financial) information but soon expanded to include voluntary (non-financial) information, as well as enriching the sources, contents, and types of analysis. A discourse analysis of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine by listed European entities from the energy-related sectors
No full textRussia invaded Ukraine in March 2022, reinitiating a military conflict. Since Europe relied on Russian energy imports, entities in the energy sector may be affected. Based on content analysis, this exploratory paper assesses the disclosures by listed European entities in the energy sector in 2022 regarding Russia´s invasion of Ukraine, since the impacts of this event should at least be reported under International Accounting Standard (IAS) 10. The impression management (IM) strategies behind the entities´ disclosures are explored by using financial or integrated reporting as a source of information for the period ending in 2021. The findings mostly indicate a lower disclosure level among the entities that reported this event. Further, figures are often missing, and the entities´exposure to this non-adjustable event and its likely future impacts are usually unclear and vague within the notes on the subsequent events. Finally, messages´tone and readability might be aligned with concealment strategies. To the best of the authors´knowledge, this is the first research that uses this theme and IAS 10 notes as the object and source of analysis, respectively. The paper contributes to the literature by providing insights into the different patterns revealed by the entities concerning a current topic that has relevant social and economic impacts globally, as well as the characteristics of the entities´IAS 10 disclosures.Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa. Recent trends in accounting and information system research: a literature review using textual analysis tools
No full textThis article belongs to the Special Issue Financial Technology and Innovation Sustainable Development.Accounting has been evolving to follow the latest economic, political, social, and technolog ical developments. Therefore, there is a need for researchers to also include in their research agenda the emerging topics in the accounting area. This exploratory paper selects technological matters in accounting as its research object, proposing a literature review that uses archival research as a method and content analysis as a technique. Using different tools for the assessment of qualitative data, this content analysis provides a summary of those papers, such as their main topics, most frequent words, and cluster analysis. A top journal was used as the source of information, namely The International Journal of Accounting Information Systems, given its scope, which links accounting and technological matters. Data from 2000 to 2022 was selected to provide an evolutive analysis since the beginning
of this century, with a particular focus on the latest period. The findings indicate that the recent discussions and trending topics in accounting, including matters such as international regulation, the sustainable perspective in accounting, as well as new methods, channels, and processes for improving the entities’ auditing and reporting, have increased their relevance and influence, enriching the debate and future perspectives in combination with the use of new technologies. Therefore, this seems to be a path to follow as an avenue for future research. Notwithstanding, emerging technologies as a research topic seem to be slower or less evident than their apparent development in the accounting area. The findings from this paper are limited to a single journal and, therefore, this limitation must be considered in the context of those conclusions. Notwithstanding, its proposed analysis may con tribute to the profession, academia, and the scientific community overall, enabling the identification of the state of the art of literature in the technological area of accounting.Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa (IPL/2022/REPUKRAINE_ISCAL)
Dietary acculturation and food habit changes among Chinese immigrants in Portugal
Get PDFChinese individuals who immigrate to a Western country tend to change their eating patterns and behaviors depending on how long they live in the host country. This is dietary acculturation, and it can have a positive or negative impact on eating habits. Thus, we aimed to characterize the dietary acculturation of the Chinese immigrant community in Portugal and check the trend of the direction of this acculturation. The study involved 213 immigrants and assessed food consumption, meal patterns, and dietary acculturation. A mean Western acculturation score of 70.1 ± 8.9. was identified and 71.4% had a high Western acculturation score. No one had low or very high Western acculturation. Participants who have a higher level of acculturation tend to have higher energy and fat intake. The likelihood of mixing meals, including, and combining, Chinese and Portuguese meals and foods are associated with time spent in Portugal. Efforts should be made to encourage Chinese immigrants to make a positive dietary transition during their acculturation process.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Estratégias de preparação de excertos e repertório de violoncelo para audições de orquestra
No full textRelatório de Projeto Artístico apresentado à Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, do Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa, para cumprimento dos requisitos à obtenção do grau de Mestre em Música, conforme Decreto-Lei nº107/2008 de 25 de junho.O presente projeto artístico teve como objetivo analisar as estratégias de preparação de excertos e repertório de violoncelo para audições de orquestra. A preparação para uma audição de orquestra é um processo complexo e exigente, que requer dedicação, prática e conhecimento técnico. O violoncelo é um instrumento essencial na orquestra, e uma boa performance é fundamental para se destacar na audição. O trabalho escrito será alicerçado no recital composto pelo principal repertório para admissão em orquestra.
As orquestras sinfónicas, em alguns casos, poderão ser o grande objetivo de carreira de um músico, não só pela segurança material, mas sobretudo pela realização pessoal e artística. Em todo o caso, o músico pode desenvolver uma multiplicidade de atividades que sejam complementares no seu percurso artístico integrado. Dessa componente de integração, destacam-se naturalmente aspetos técnicos de execução e de proposta das obras, mas igualmente exercícios de cariz prático e até morfológico que predisponham emocionalmente e psicologicamente o músico para o momento sempre exigente a que se propõe. Não obstante, estando bem ciente que cada indivíduo é um universo com características singulares, o que se propõe, é uma sugestão de uma metodologia base, que sirva de apoio e até de referência enquanto alicerce de um trabalho que necessariamente terá de ser enquadrado aos objetivos do músico, e naturalmente, à sua idiossincrasia. O processo de preparação é contínuo e requer dedicação e esforço constantes para alcançar a excelência na performance. Nesse sentido, os requisitos exigidos em contexto de orquestra deverão ser trabalhados de forma exaustiva, de forma a obter o resultado profícuo para o músico que se apresenta para um momento tão definidor da sua vida profissional. O objetivo será o de apresentar uma proposta que cumpra a função de apoiar o violoncelista candidato a audição de orquestra.ABSTRACT - This artistic project aimed to analyse the strategies for preparing cello excerpts and repertoire for orchestra auditions. Preparing for an orchestra audition is a complex and demanding process that requires dedication, practice, and technical knowledge. The cello is a crucial instrument in the orchestra, and a superior performance is essential to stand out in the audition. The written work will be based on the main repertoire for admission to the orchestra.
Symphony orchestras can be the big career goal of a musician, not only for financial security but also for personal and artistic fulfilment. In any case, the musician can develop a variety of activities that complement their artistic journey. From this component of integration, technical aspects of performance and proposal of works stand out, but equally practical and even morphological exercises that emotionally and psychologically predispose the musician for the always demanding moment they propose. Being aware that everyone is a unique universe with distinct characteristics, a basic methodology is proposed as a suggestion. This methodology can serve as support, a reference, and a foundation for a musician's work. However, it is essential to keep in mind that the work must necessarily be framed within the musician's goals and idiosyncrasies. The preparation process is continuous and requires constant dedication and effort to achieve excellence in performance. In this sense, the requirements demanded in the orchestra context should be worked exhaustively, to obtain a fruitful result for the musician who presents himself for such a defining moment in his professional life. The objective will be to present a proposal that serves to support the cellist candidate for the orchestra audition.N/
A importância da diversidade nos conselhos de administração: impacto no desempenho da responsabilidade social

Em diversas frentes, as organizações tendem a atuar, de forma crescente, em uniformidade com as práticas empresariais sustentáveis, bem como a divulgação das mesmas. O estudo dos fatores, demográficos ou estruturais que possam, potencialmente, exercer influência nos níveis de relato praticados pelas organizações prossegue em ascensão na comunidade científica. Neste sentido, a presente investigação tem como objetivo primordial, identificar a influência da diversidade no conselho de administração no desempenho da responsabilidade social das organizações. De modo a permitir o cumprimento dos objetivos definidos para a condução do estudo, e, consecutivamente dar resposta à pergunta de investigação “Existe uma relação entre a
diversidade no conselho de administração e o desempenho da responsabilidade social das organizações?”, é utilizada uma metodologia quantitativa. Para uma amostra de 70 organizações, integrantes de quatro índices bolsistas de países europeus (Portugal, Espanha França e Bélgica), é efetuada uma análise exploratória, bivariada e multivariada relativamente a um período compreendido entre 2017 e 2021. Assim, foi possível evidenciar a existência de uma relação positiva, estatisticamente significante entre o desempenho da
responsabilidade social e a idade, género, nacionalidade, dimensão da empresa e independência do conselho de administração e uma relação negativa, estatisticamente significante entre esse mesmo desempenho e a rendibilidade das entidades analisadas.The commitment to issues related with sustainable development and the adoption of responsible behavior, in the face of a society in constant change of needs and demands, guides organizations towards reconsidering the impact of their role in communities. On several fronts, organizations tend to act, increasingly, in uniformity with sustainable business practices, as well as their disclosure. The study of demographic or structural factors that may potentially influence the levels of reporting practiced by organizations continues to rise in the scientific community. In this sense, the main objective of this investigation is to identify the influence of diversity on the board of directors in the performance of corporate social responsibility. In order to allow the fulfillment of the objectives defined for conducting the study, and, consecutively, to answer the research question “Is there a relationship between diversity in the board of directors and the corporate social responsibility performance?”, a
quantitative methodology is used. For a sample of 70 organizations, included in four European stock indexes (Portugal, Spain, France and Belgium), an exploratory, bivariate and multivariate analysis is carried out for a period between 2017 and 2021. Thus, it was possible to find the existence of a positive, statistically significant relationship between corporate social responsibility performance and age, gender, nationality, company size and independence of the board of directors and a negative, statistically significant relationship between that same performance and profitability.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

No âmbito do processo destes dois conceitos, para assegurar a sobrevivência das empresas, são implementados diversos instrumentos de gestão, e diferentes métodos de avaliação, consoante a estrutura da organização, os objetivos estratégicos definidos e a variedade de recursos que são utilizados durante a atividade empresarial. Com isto, o papel do controlador tem se tornando mais relevante dada a complexidade e exigência da sua área e função.
A fim de aprofundar os conhecimentos e refletir acerca das temáticas abordadas e a sua importância no universo empresarial, a autora realizou um estágio profissional na sede de um grupo líder no seu setor, Provalliance Portugal.O estágio foi realizado numa realidade peculiar e diferente, a que se acrescenta o facto de ter sido realizado no contexto da pandemia COVID-19.
Durante o estágio profissional foi possível conhecer e analisar os métodos e sistemas implementados pela empresa e analisar o impacto da pandemia nos resultados da mesma através das tarefas realizadas.Management control and performance evaluation are concepts that have been studied over the years and are currently considered very important in the management of many companies.
As part of the process of these two concepts, to ensure the survival of companies, various management instruments and different evaluation methods are implemented, depending on the structure of the organization, the defined strategic objectives and the variety of resources that are used during business activity. With this, the role of the controller has become more relevant given the complexity and demand of its area and function.
In order to deepen her knowledge and reflect on the topics addressed and their importance in the business world, the author undertook a professional internship at the headquarters of a leading group in its sector, Provalliance Portugal. which is added the fact that it was carried out in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

O meu percurso enquanto estagiária
Get PDFRelatório da Prática Profissional Supervisionada II apresentado à Escola Superior de Educação de Lisboa para obtenção do grau de Mestre em Educação Pré-EscolarO relatório que aqui se apresenta foi elaborado no âmbito da Unidade Curricular de Prática Profissional Supervisionada II que decorreu numa Instituição Particular de Solidariedade Social, na zona metropolitana de lisboa, na valência de jardim de infância, com um grupo de crianças com idades compreendidas entre 3 e 6 anos. Visando espelhar o caminho reflexivo, crítico, interpretativo, analítico e fundamentado que foi o meu, por um período de 4 meses, enquanto estagiária-educadora, mas, também, pessoa, constituindo a minha prática pedagógica e atitude investigativa.
Apresentar-se-á uma caraterização do contexto, aos meus olhos, tencionando contextualizar a ação educativa e, por conseguinte, fundamentar as minhas intencionalidades educativas, avaliando a sua (ou não) concretização no processo de intervenção. Será, ainda, designado um capítulo destinado à investigação realizada no mesmo contexto, composto pela sua apresentação devidamente enquadrada, incidindo sobre a relação da equipa educativa de sala.
Metodologicamente, a investigação assume uma abordagem de natureza qualitativa, definindo-se como um estudo exploratório, em que foram utilizadas as notas de campo, registos diários, conversais informais e reflexões semanais, como instrumentos de recolha de dados, tendo como elemento basilar a observação direta. Assim, foi possível aferir que durante o primeiro contacto profissional, na Prática Profissional Supervisionada I, a minha prática foi caracterizada, essencialmente, pela identificação de dificuldades, resultando em aprendizagens, embora apenas ao nível dessas mesmas dificuldades. Sob outra perspetiva, num segundo contacto profissional, na Prática Profissional Supervisionada II, consegui ir além da identificação de dificuldades, perspetivando estratégias para as dissipar. Não obstante que a reflexão se assumiu como um elemento importantíssimo na minha prática educativa.N/
“Não gosto quando fazes isso!” A perspetiva das educadoras quanto aos conflitos e a sua gestão em jardim de infância

obtenção de grau de mestre em Educação Pré-EscolarO presente relatório foi elaborado no âmbito da Prática Profissional Supervisionada II, que decorreu numa Instituição Particular de Solidariedade Social, no concelho de Cascais. No mesmo pretendo apresentar de forma sistemática e fundamentada a minha intervenção educativa ao longo do estágio, tendo em conta as aprendizagens realizadas. O grupo com o qual realizei a minha prática é constituído por vinte crianças, com idades compreendidas entre os 2 e os 6 anos de idade, pela educadora cooperante e por uma técnica de ação educativa. No relatório, será apresentada uma investigação realizada no decorrer da prática, tendo como tema “a perspetiva das educadoras quanto aos conflitos e a sua gestão em jardim de infância”. Este tema surgiu a partir das observações efetuadas durante a Prática Profissional Supervisionada II, nas quais, foi possível observar a emergência de diversos conflitos, diariamente, no grupo de crianças. O estudo realizado é de natureza qualitativa, como método para a investigação elegi o estudo de caso, tendo utilizado como técnicas de recolha de dados, a entrevista a duas educadoras, a consulta documental, a observação direta participante e a observação naturalista. Como instrumentos foram utilizados registos fotográficos e de áudio, notas de campo e reflexões semanais. Com esta investigação compreendi que as educadoras possuem um papel crucial no que se refere à gestão de conflitos entre os mais pequenos e à autonomia das crianças na gestão dos seus próprios conflitos, uma vez que, o/a educador/a de infância tem o papel de mediador na resolução de conflitos que surgem entre as crianças; que o/a educador/a deve promover a autonomia das crianças na resolução dos seus próprios conflitos; que o diálogo e a escuta são essenciais para terminar com os conflitos; que os conflitos proporcionam aprendizagens fundamentais, sendo por isso positivos, se explorados de forma construtiva. Através desta investigação, verifico que, os conflitos são essenciais para o desenvolvimento da criança, deste modo, não devem ser vistos como algo a evitar, mas sim, como uma fonte de aprendizagens.ABSTRACT This report was prepared within the scope of Supervised Professional Practice II, which took place in a Private Institution of Social Solidarity, in the municipality of Cascais In the same I intend to present in a systematic and reasoned way my educational intervention throughout the internship, taking into account the learning carried out. The group with which I carried out my practice consists of twenty children, aged between 2 and 6 years old, by the cooperating educator and by an educational action technician. The report will present an investigation carried out during the practice, with the theme “the perspective of educators regarding conflicts and their management in kindergarten”. This theme emerged from the observations made during Supervised Professional Practice II, in which it was possible to observe the emergence of several conflicts, daily, in the group of children. The study carried out is of a qualitative nature, as a method for the investigation I chose the case study, having used as data collection techniques, the interview to two educators, the documentary consultation, the direct participant observation and the naturalistic observation. As instruments, photographic and audio recordings, field notes and weekly reflections were used. With this investigation, I understood that educators have a crucial role in terms of managing conflicts between the youngest and the autonomy of children in managing their own conflicts, since the kindergarten teacher has the role as a mediator in resolving conflicts that arise between children; that the educator must promote the children's autonomy in resolving their own conflicts; that dialogue and listening are essential to ending conflicts; that conflicts provide fundamental learning, being therefore positive and explored in a constructive way. Through this investigation, I verify that conflicts are essential for the child's development, therefore, they should not be seen as something to avoid, but rather as a source of learning.N/
