The stick, the carrot or the sermon : on the conditions to steer for change
The forest is attributed a key role in a green societal transition. Even though the climate benefits of the forest are already significant, the forest's contribution must further increase according to the Paris Agreement. In the interdisciplinary project Route to Paris, we investigate the potential of Swedish forests to contribute to a climate-neutral society. The research program is based on close collaboration with stakeholders who want to participate in developing innovative concepts that can stimulate climate-smart forestry. This work is intended to provide an initial overview of the research that the project will encompass and lay the groundwork for dialogue among stakeholders
” Look what I’m saying, teacher!” : Exploring the relationship between aesthetic expression in theater and nonverbal preschool children
I in this study aim to investigate the connection between aesthetic expression in theatre and nonverbal communication among preschool children, grounded in Vygotsky's artefact and mediation theories. Theatre, with its rich visual and performative elements, serves as a medium for artistic expression and imaginative exploration. Within early childhood education, understanding how theatre influences children's nonverbal communication skills is essential for promoting children development and social interaction. Lev Vygotsky’s theories of artefacts and mediation provide a valuable framework for examining the role of theatre in children's socioemotional development. Artefacts, such as costumes, props, and stage settings, serve as cultural tools that scaffold children's learning and cognition. Theatre acts as a mediating artefact that facilitates children's exploration of emotions, roles, and relationships through dramatic play and performance. Theatre can provide an environment where children can experiment with these nonverbal communication skills in a supportive and creative context. I seek to elucidate how exposure to theatrical experiences impacts the nonverbal communication abilities of young children. By examining the perspectives of educators working closely with young children, this research aims to uncover nuanced understandings of how aesthetic experiences in theater contribute to the development and learning of preschoolers
Hur investerar Generation Z?
The stock market has become increasingly accessible over the years and more predictable with the advancements in digitalization, benefiting younger investors. Overall, Generation Z shows a greater presence in the market, which could be attributed to the increased access to information leading to heightened investment activity. The study aims to examine how Generation Z invests compared to Millennials, Generation X and Baby Boomers, and identify possible factors influencing the outcomes of their stock portfolios. The study applies a quantitative method following a deductive approach. Hypotheses are formulated based on theories such as Modern Portfolio Theory, risk tolerance linked to age, and Investor Attention. To investigate the phenomenon, data is collected through surveys. The survey is distributed to the study's target group, which is Generation Z in Sweden, through convenience sampling. Furthermore, secondary data is compared to primary data to discuss how factors like the influence of other investors and perceived risk tolerance differ among generations. Secondary data is processed by conducting a descriptive content analysis, where the content is then presented as categories in the results. The secondary data also presents portfolio values for Generation Z, Millennials, Generation X, and Baby Boomers
Formal Language Style in EFL and SFI Classrooms in Sweden : Exploring Perceptions and Practices
The primary aim of this study is to gain insight into the level of formality in EFL (English as a Foreign Language) classrooms in upper secondary schools and in SFI (Swedish for Immigrants) classrooms in Sweden. This research specifically examines how EFL and SFI teachers perceive and integrate formal language into their teaching practices. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 teachers, including 5 EFL and 5 SFI teachers to gather qualitative data. The interviews ranged from 20-45 minutes and were recorded, transcribed, and analyzed using a thematic analysis to identify recurring themes and patterns within the interview transcripts. The findings reveal distinct perceptions and practices between EFL and SFI teachers regarding formal language. EFL teachers view formal language as essential for promoting social norms, such as politeness and respect. They incorporate formal language using formal texts, advanced formal vocabulary, and sentence structures. Some EFL teachers prioritize the use of formal language based on specific lesson goals, while others are influenced by the informal nature of Swedish culture and prefer to use informal language in their classrooms. On the other hand, SFI teachers perceive formal language as flexible and context dependent. They emphasize practical applications of formal language such as writing emails and formal letters at a basic level. SFI teachers focus on clarity and correctness over strict formal language rules and the aim of such focus is to ensure that the students learn the basic Swedish language necessary for social integration
You decide yourself… or? : A SFG Analysis of the Power Dynamics Between Sender and Receiver in Test Contexts
This study examines speech acts, modalities, and the use of the informal “you” in the instructions for the national tests in Swedish and Swedish as a second language, as well as teachers’ own instructions for written assignments. The study also aims to explore whether the usage of the components show a power relationship between the instructions and the students. The intention is then to use these linguistic components as markers of power and to investigate how the power relationship unfolds between sender and receiver. The interpersonal metafunction in systemic functional grammar is employed as the method for this study, where each sentence in the instructions is broken down, analyzed based on its language acts, modalities, and use of “you.” These are then discussed in relation to systemic functional grammar and previous research. In summary, the results of the study indicate a power relationship between sender and receiver where the receiver, in more cases, ends up in a position of inferiority compared to the sender. The instructions and assertions provided cannot be counted or opposed by the student without risking their performance on the examination. The results also indicate that the questions available to the students were sometimes leading, where the sender already had an idea of the answer they were looking for. Despite sometimes being leading, the questions can serve as guidance for students' thought process, thus functioning as a support for their writing, which also applies to offers and aids.
Hybrid Work : A qualitative study based on organizational culture, work performance and motivation
The purpose of the study is to increase the understanding of hybrid work and examine how this form of work affects organizational culture, perceived work performance and employee motivation. How does hybrid work affect organizational culture, perceived work performance and employee motivation in organizations? The study uses a qualitative research method with phenomenography. The study uses a theoretical framework to design interview questions and structure the analysis of empirical data, which means a deductive approach. Empirical data were collected through semi-structured interviews. The results of the study show that hybrid work has changed the organizational culture by increasing the flexibility and freedom of the employees which has led to increased acceptance of remote work. The study found challenges with hybrid work that include a lack of spontaneity and creativity as well as difficulties with communication and participation in hybrid meetings. Work performance improves rather than deteriorates with the flexibility to choose. Employees' autonomy and motivation are strengthened by the flexibility of the hybrid work model. Empirisk data samlades in genom semistrukturerade intervjuer.
Social Media and Online Hate Speech : A content analysis study on Ethiopian diaspora-owned ethnically segregated social media platforms
The rapid expansion of technology has posed challenges in moderating hateful content on social media platforms, particularly in non-text formats like TikTok videos. This study addresses a significant gap in scholarly research by examining the intersection of TikTok and journalistic content within the Ethiopian diaspora community. The research aims to investigate the prevalence and characteristics of hate speech in ethnic-based social media platforms operated by the Ethiopian diaspora, focusing on two prominent platforms: Ethio 360 Media and Gadaa Media Network (Gadaa MN), representing the Amhara and Oromo ethnic groups, respectively. Employing content analysis methodology, the study examines a hundred TikTok video clips from these platforms, drawing upon the theoretical framework of Framing Theory. This framework encompasses Frame Amplification, Frame Transformation, and Frame Contest, allowing for the identification of distinct patterns in hate speech language and content presentation between the two platforms. Key findings highlight several significant insights: (1) Both Ethio 360 Media and Gadaa MN exhibit similarities in hate speech, particularly in incitement of violence or threats. However, Ethio 360 Media employs uniquely demeaning and dehumanizing language, absent in Gadaa MN's journalistic content; (2) Analysis of hate speech types reveals differences in prevalence and focus within journalistic content, with both platforms engaging in politics-based hate speech but disparities emerging in ethnicity-based hate speech; (3) Examination of targeted entities unveils differing framing strategies, with both platforms targeting the Ethiopian government but diverging in their approaches toward other entities such as the Oromo ethnic group and educational institution; (4) Analysis of news coverage genres indicates variations in content presentation, with Ethio 360 Media relying more on commentary while Gadaa MN focuses predominantly on straight newscasts; (5) Exploration of news coverage areas reveals distinct content focuses between the two platforms, with Ethio 360 Media covering Ethiopia as a whole and various regions within the country, while Gadaa MN primarily focuses on the Oromia Region, occasionally covering foreign countries or regions
Artificiell intelligens och individuell integritet : “Den teknologiska eran inom marknadsföring- konsumentautonomi”
This qualitative study aims to examine the potential challenges consumers face regarding their integrity and personal autonomy due to the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) in digital marketing. Technology is continuously developing, especially with the integration of AI-driven marketing strategies implemented by companies. Therefore the concerns regarding integrity and personal data information have become of vital importance. Thus this study aims to shed light on the challenges of consumers maintaining their personal autonomy and integrity with the help of a theoretical framework. The focus groups for the interviews were “young adults” and “middle-aged adults” to further analyze and compare the difference of attitudes between the two groups. The study came to a conclusion that there are significant differences between the two groups but also similarities. The main difference was that “young adults” have a more negative attitude toward AI, viewing it as a tool used to exploit data from consumers. A similarity found was that both subgroups are concerned about potential threats to their privacy, integrity and the lack of personal autonomy as a result of AI-systems in marketing.
"Don't stop thinking" : En kvalitativ studie om hur implementeringen av artificiell intelligens påverkar revisionsprocessen i Sverige
We are currently in the year 2024, in the midst of the fourth industrial revolution, where artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the most revolutionary technologies characteristic of this era. The fifth industrial revolution is on the horizon, where AI will be further distinguished. Through a qualitative method with an inductive approach, semi-structured interviews have been conducted to investigate how AI has impacted the audit process and how far audit firms have come in this development. This is because auditing is a profession that, according to previous research, is relevant to investigate due to its rigid nature with strict laws and regulations. The handling of confidential information is a central part, and the work during the audit process should ultimately contribute to a quality-assured audit. Due to this technological development, this study, with the help of an analysis model consisting of diffusion of innovation (DOI), the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT), the audit process, and the productivity paradox, has identified auditors acceptance and use of AI in the audit process. The study shows that AI has the potential to streamline the audit process by substituting repetitive tasks. Despite this, there are significant challenges that must be overcome for the full application of AI. Auditors have generally accepted AI, but there is uncertainty about how the technology can be used due to the handling of confidential information, existing regulations, and excessive reliance on the technology. These challenges have resulted in a low degree of usage and a relatively slow adoption rate. The productivity paradox is evident, as despite significant investments in AI and technological advancements, the actual productivity increase has been limited. The analysis shows that audit firms give the impression of faster development than what has actually occurred, while emphasizing that auditors analytical skills for a quality-assured audit are irreplaceable
